The beginning of cegep.

My first year of cégep was really hectic and I had to find a way to be well-organized.

Choice 1 : Disorganization.

My first semester in cégep was hard. I went through a lot in the beginning: my time management was terrible, I was not able to be organized and because of that I was always stressed and ended up having a bunch of works next to the due dates. The home works kept adding up and I had no choice but to do a cursory glance at them. The time was going fast, it was so maddening! Which was worsening my situation and it made get bad grades.

Choice 1 : My horrible experience on an on the job training.

Well-organized.

Thanks to a thoughtful teacher, I was able to organize myself properly. It helped me to put aside my stress and with her help, I pulled off my final exams and got straight A’s in every exam. Even though I went, through a stressful semester, I was capable of staying positive the whole time and because of that, it kept me motivated. From now on, I make sure to thoroughly look into my home works and their due dates. Can school cause any types of mental illness?

Choice 1 : Volunteering abroad, my best decision!

My horrible experience on an on-the-job training.

The experience I had while doing my OJT was terrible. First of all, I applied for a job that I had no interested in but I didn’t have any choice to get in because I needed a job to pay my bills. When I applied on Indeed, they said that we would get paid when we are training for the job but when I got to my training, they told us that we aren’t getting any wage while on training. They lied on the Indeed site to attract more people (pretty much illegal right?). Anyway, that drew me back even more. I was a trainee at a company called Primerica. At this job you do not get a bi weekly wage like most jobs, the only way you can make money is by inviting people to sign up to the company which is very hard. I was good at what I was doing, my ins and out were too, but I was still not getting anyone to sign up to the company. I never knew that until I officially started working there. This job treatment was neither in my expectations nor biases.

Volunteering abroad, my best decision!

In my second year of University at HEC, while I was studying Finance. I planned on volunteering abroad to gain some experience and to learn more about my field. However, I was very skeptical about the decision I was about to make, because working without getting paid was sounded pretty hard. I kept thinking to myself, that me volunteering would give me a lot of advantages for my future work but I would still prefer getting paid for the hard work that I would be putting into the job. Obviously, it would be better for me to do the volunteer work since it would have a purpose in my life (field & work), unlike getting paid in a dead-end job that would have nothing to do with my domain. If I was to do that, I would be wasting my time and it would only bring disadvantages to my knowledge since it is not preparing me for anything but slowing me down. By gaining experience, I was able to find a great job and also get a premium wage since I learned a lot in that volunteers work. I was able to make a good decision because I am well-organized which helped me become wise.

Choice 1 : My internship.

At the University that I’m in, all students in Finance are allowed to do an internship on their third year. In my third year, I decided to do an internship at the Bank Of Montreal to learn the ropes of the domain that I am studying in. I was applying to a lot of banks before, and I was so overwhelmed when I saw that I got accepted to a lot of banks in my city. However, I could only choose one, so I went with BMO. I chose that bank because they pay their interns during their training and internship, imagine getting paid and learning more about something you love? Unbelievable. Anyway, my on-the-job-training took about three months and it came in handy. I was able to learn many things that I hadn’t known in the past, it was pretty much like a test drive that I was able to pass. My experience at BMO was a great experience to get my foot in the door, I can now find a job that will suit me for the rest of my career.

Making decisions in a workplace.

At work, I am not surrounded by the best people but I still have to make the right choices so that it will not affect my career.

I’m currently working at the Bank of Montreal and I do not really like the people I’m working with. They are really pushing me to quit but I will not let them undermine me and push me away. Last week I got sucked up in a situation with a colleague because she’s really modest about the company and very selfish. More often than not, she argues about who will do what to get to a higher position.

Office politics (making the right decision).

Unfortunately she doesn’t understand that I’m avoiding office politics, I care about the well-being of the company and not only myself. I make sure to withhold any personal information I know about my colleagues, but they don’t treat me the same way as I treat them, they’re the opposite of me. By doing that, it saved me from a lot of things, that exact employee got fired for creating too many problems in the workplace.Fortunately, for me, I got a higher post at my job for making great decisions. My experience as a student helped me a lot during my life to make sure I do what is best for me.
