The Choice of my Life

Choice of the Field of Study.

Now that I’ve finished with high school, I have to choose wisely my field of study. Since I was performing in my theater class in school, I thought it was a good idea to go exploring this domain in college. I like to act, and it would be an opportunity to meet a lot of interesting people. In the other hand, I love computer and everything it’s related to. I build my own one two years ago and really felt in love with this ecosystem of geeky stuff. I honestly see myself in both of these field, and it’s a very hard decision to make but I have to make it, I have no choice.

So finally I chose theater, I’m very excited to explore more of this field but my parents aren’t that enthusiast. They told me that there is no future in this program, that it’s a dend-end job with no opportunity to grow and it doesn’t make enough money. I don’t want to believe that, I’m sure they’re wrong and that there’s plenty of opportunities for me to grow and to meet wonderful people. What should I do?

Choice 1 : Continue in Theater without telling my parents!

Choice 2 : Confront my Parents.

Choice 3 : Accept my Parent's decision.

So finally, I chose development, I’m very excited to explore more of this field and my parents seems very happy and proud. They told me that there are plenty of opportunities in this field and that the demand is just going to increase with time. Also, the salary is very good. The good news is that my mother worked in a company called CdProjektRed, and she knows the manager there, she told me that she could get me an internship very easily, so I can see what this industry looks like from the inside.

Continue in Theater without telling my parents!

I won’t let my parents decide for myself, I know that I want to do and if they don’t want to support me, then I will prove them that I can have a decent career by doing something that I like, even if it’s not as profitable as a “normal” job.

We started to have a big argument here… But even if I have all the will power, I can't handle my parents when they are in this state of mind, I guess they want the best for me and if they don’t want me to go in theater, it’s for the better.

I accepted the stage at the company my mom was working at. They are plenty of possibilities for me and I can finally start working on project I’ve been studying for. This is the best opportunity for me to become more and more comfortable with this industry. I will have to make a plan after the internship, it was a good experience but now I need to find a job.

I don’t want to be forged into something I don’t want to be, I don’t want to respect code from the industry. If I decide to go on that path, I will need a lot of determination. It’s not going to be easy, I’m stressed, and I don’t want to have a dead-end job. I am not sure of my choice anymore.

My parents discovered that I went into theater without telling them… They finally understood, and knew that because I went without even telling them, it’s because I really want it, and they understood. I love my parents even if sometimes they are a bit stupid! Next time, I will know that it's always better to communicate!
