It all started like this.

You are a 14-year-old boy living in Cuba, your parents, tired of living under the dictatorial Castro regime and a life of misery with no future, decide to do everything possible to emigrate to Canada. However, they let you choose whether to stay in Cuba with your grandparents or to embark on a journey to improve your quality of life with them.

You arrive in Canada with your family. Cuban friends help support you for the first few months until your parents get permanent jobs and you start high school in your third year. Two years go by and the time has come to decide which path you want to follow. Video games are your passion, you see yourself in the decision of going to one of two possible CEGEPS to study game programming. One of them is called ISART which is completely private, costs $25k and you have to pass an entry exam. The other is Lasalle in which the study program costs 15k and is closer to your home.

Choice 1 : Go to Lasalle.

Stay with your grandparents.

Sorry but you have just made the worst decision of your life, the repressions in Cuba increase every day, and your ideology not being the one shared by the government makes that you find yourself being repressed and end up as one of the many political prisoners on the island.

Go to Lasalle.

Before entering Lasalle College you ask yourself if you would like to make any changes in the program you want to follow since you see that there is also a program of special effects and 3D animation for video games.

Choice 1 : Enter the Game Programming program.

Choice 2 : Enter the VFX & Game Design program.

Go to ISART.

You enter the ISART college and the first month of study you realize that the subject is too advanced for someone who has never programmed before. You feel that only students with previous knowledge of the C and C++ language can keep up but your teacher says that it is not important, that you will end up learning it. You can either do your best and try to survive in a program that is not designed for students with no prior knowledge or you can leave the program and go to Lasalle where the program is oriented to people like you.

Leave ISART and go to Lasalle.

Your decision has been made, you only had to pay the first month and you have saved yourself a year of suffering.

You spend the year doing your best to understand something that is condensed. Your classmates support you as much as possible but you are stressed because even if the teacher says that grades are not important you still need to pass the course, at that moment you wonder what is more important, your health, or finishing the year.

You decided to take a few days off which affected your school performance and caused you to fail the year.

Entering the program you realize that you need to be good at drawing, which you are not, so you put in a lot of work, but it isn't enough. Then, you have to choose between switching to game programming or quit college.

Classes start and you see that the teachers are very good at explaining the subject, which doesn't seem as difficult at first as you were told, your classmates are few, but they are just as enthusiastic as you are, but since you are very introverted you realize that interacting with others will be a problem, so you are faced with a decision, try hard to get along with others to improve the group dynamics or limit your interactions with others and focus on your individuality.

You create a bond with your classmates that give you the strength to overcome your shyness and be able to work with them in groups and express your opinions without feeling pressured, your decision allows you to get good grades in your Data Structure, Game Engine, and Philosophy courses which gives you a feeling of fulfillment. When looking for an internship in your last year at Lasalle you are faced with two options, the first one is to apply for an indie game development studio or to look for a bigger studio like UBISOFT.

Focus on your individuality.

You do your best to focus on yourself and limit the interaction with your classmates, so in the group work and especially in the agile methodology course you find yourself under a lot of stress and pressure as it is very important to work in teams, the anxiety and pressure are too much so you get sick and you have to leave the school year.

Apply for an indie studio.

You decide to apply for an internship at an indie studio, you are accepted because of your good grades and begin to work. The studio is small but has more ins than outs. Your mastery of the C++ and C# languages as well as the Unity cross-platform game engine and its functionalities make you stand out and be an invaluable addition to the company's staff, which decides to hire you. They propose to give you on-the-job training and even a premium wage. You found a special place to work and you accept the offer.

Apply for UBISOFT.

UBISOFT chooses you for an internship, but being a very big and famous company your work as an intern is very limited and you see that they only put you to do basic things like correcting hundreds of lines of code. The day-to-day routine is very monotonous and you just do the same thing day after day. At the end of your internship, the studio offers you to work for them but in an area that you do not like and doing things too insignificant. As it is your first job offer you accept anyway and start working. After few days you start to think that maybe, and only maybe it can be a dead-end job.

Your father, seeing your suffering, decides to give you a job in his trucking company.
