It was my last year in high school. I started thinking about my career and how I would like to see myself in the future.
Choice 1 : Do some research to combine passion and work.
Choice 2 : Be more implicated in the justice project from my school.

It was my last year of high school and all of my teachers began to talk about college, career and asking us how we picture ourselves in the future. I remember it was in my English class, with the sweetest teacher ever, that I’ve realized that justice, law and politics was something for me. As a young black woman, I was tired of seeing people from my community being treated differently because of the color of our skin. I started to do some research every day after school about the black women in politics, who own law firms etc. I wanted to be more cultivated because I knew how hard it would be for me and how people on the outside visualize the black community. I have worked 2 times harder than the other students in my class since elementary school but this time everything was different. I had a goal to achieve. To get there I started to plan every homework depending on what course I’ll have, never be late and feel confident with every exam that I’ll have to get straight A’s all year long.

It was my last year of high school and all of my teachers began to talk about college, career and asking us how we picture ourselves in the future. I remember when I didn’t know what to do with my life. At that time, I would do anything but be focus on school. I had good grades, but I would skip some homework. One day, I went home and instead of doing my homework, I decided to go to the mall with my best friends and deal with my homework when I am back. I was telling myself that if there is something important, a classmate or my teacher herself would tell me. The sense of responsibility wasn’t really there at this age for me. I came back the next day and found that I had an oral presentation about the project. I was so pissed about myself because I wasn't ready. But I still went in front of everyone and did it. Turns out I had the best grade of my entire class. I’m someone who works with her heart. We were supposed to talk about someone who inspired us every day. Everyone chose a family member or a close friend, I chose Denis Mukwege. A man who works with women in Congo who have been raped by the military, captured and went through hell because they lived near important mines and also because they were women. Young Black women just like me. I was known as the girl who spoke freely about things that mattered to her. After that, some teachers asked me to join the debate team and the student council. I was pissed and after that day, I knew what I wanted to become and never tried to be late or skip homework to go shopping.
