The Struggles of A College Student.

First Semester.

The semester had finally begun. It was my first year in college, and I was pretty excited, so many new things to learn. The environment was very different from high school but I figured I would get used to it. I quickly realized that the teachers didn't mess around and that we would already have a lot of work to do even if the semester just began. I had to get myself organized if I wanted to make it through the various classes and lectures. I could either go through this semester doing everything last minute and hope it works or I could do everything as soon as it got handed out to me.

Choice 1 : Do every assignment as soon as it gets handed out.

Choice 2 : Do every assignment last minute.

Do every assignment as soon as it gets handed out.

It felt very important to me to take things in college very seriously, as if I was in a boot camp where doing anything wrong would get me in trouble (metaphor). Although I knew it wasn't the case since we had a lot of freedom, I still decided to do my assignment as soon as they were handed out and focused on nothing but my studies. My grades were good, but mentally I wasn't doing so well, I felt tired and really missed a lot of my friends. Doing nothing but work had me quite depressed throughout the semester and it brought along frequent mood swings. I wondered if I should keep my current habits up and hope for the best or if I should take it a bit easier.

Choice 1 : Continue working like a madman.

Write a choice here.

Do every assignment last minute.

I figured doing everything last minute would work just fine. How hard could it be? I quickly realized that was a mistake though, the work piled up very quickly and I couldn't possibly keep up when I had waited until last minute. However, by the time I realized it, it was too late, I was drowning in work and couldn't quite catch up. My grades were horrible and incredibly low. I would have no choice but to retake my failed classes and hope I passed the rest.

Choice 1 : The end

Continue working like a madman.

College is very important and I couldn't afford to even slow down a little. My grades were at the very top and I would keep it that way. After all, the semester would end soon and I would be fine afterwards. I could afford to keep working like I always did even if I felt like it was making me depressed. However, it quickly turned out to be a bad idea even if it gave me very good grades, my mental state was at its worst and I had no choice but to take a break during the next semester and lengthen my college studies.

Choice 1 : The end

Continue working properly but tone it down a little.

Even if work is very important, I had to think about my mental state too. Continuing to work like a madman would do me no good and I knew I could keep up my grades without working myself like a madman. I kept up my diligent way of studying while also doing activities with friends once in a while to keep me fresh and entertained. Turns out it even helped increase my grades as I had a lot less stress on my platter and it helped me focus during my studies and exams. I finished the semester in a great way and knew I could keep going this way to get my dream job.
