I have been studying in a Veterinary program in the past two years at the University of Montreal. I am not sure if I have the motivation to continue my studies, the last years have been pretty intense and my love for animal have decrease since. My professors push me to make a choice, because in a week starts the process to find internship for the students.

Choice 1 : Left the Veterinary program.

Choose an internship with farm animals.

I decided to take an internship with a veterinarian specialized in farm’s animal. I have always wanted to become a successful veterinarian, because when I was little, I dreamed that one day I would take care of my grandfather’s horses. Even though he died of a stroke, I should honor him by achieving my dream. Many employers have proposed me an internship, but I can only take one. Which one should I do?

As I was writing a letter to my program’s director to announce my decision about quitting the program, my cat deciding it was the moment to start vomiting all over my laptop. His first projectile erased my email. God's message was clear… I needed to continue my studies, there was a purpose behind every decision I will have to take. Now is the time to decide if I wanted to treat domestic animal in a clinic or in a laboratory.

The salary, the vacation day and others benefit had a big impact when I decided to work in a laboratory. After the first week, my hopes and dreams were destroyed. My days were full of dead pigs and cows. We were trying to find a cure to a devastating decease. As I was tossing the last corps I had examined in the incriminated machine, I had the sensation to be breathless. My tachycardia was due to my asthma. My colleague finds me crying in the freezer, and he offered me some drug. It was the first time I was seeing cocaine.

I didn’t have another choice than following my heart. This is why I decided to be a trainee on a farm! I was already dreaming about giving medicine to animals, reducing their pain, finding tumor and disinfecting wounds. I was expecting a lot of things to happen, but I never thought that I would faint on my first day! While visiting the barn for the first time, I felt an intense contraction in my stomach due to the smell. I tried to reach the door, but I could not reach it. My supervisor found me unconscious in the barn minutes later. He had to ventilate me with a respirator!!! At least I wasn’t vomiting. I am not sure if I should try to find a new farm to do my stage. Should I give another chance to this smelly barn?

Working as an internship in a food industry for the government wasn’t my best idea. Yesterday I was a victim of sexual harassment by a coworker. I denounced it but nobody had taken me seriously. It makes me feel like all my study weren’t as worthwhile as I thought. This is why I had to give my resignation.

The salary, the vacation day and others benefit had a big impact when I decided to work in a laboratory for domestic animals. The company for which I will work proposed that I become the trainee of one of his three principal veterinarians. One of them is the reputed Dr. Tan, who is recognized worldwide as the best in his firm. The second was the Dr. Pete, who wins a lot of awards for discovering the source of diseases. The last one is a Dr. named Gab, I never heard of him, but he seems like a good guy. If I choose one of the two firsts, I would already have a foot in the door when I get out of school.

Working in a clinic wasn’t even a question, it was all I was aspiring to. There is many more ins-and-outs and I will be my own employers faster than if I work in a laboratory. My favorite professors, who is always giving me straight A’s, proposed that I work with others of his favorite students from old classes. The first one is the prettiest guy I have ever seen and the second is a basic white chick. I am wondering which one should I chose?

No way I would work in an environment with this kind of smell! It is a to big drawback to even try. Now that I am a little late, I have to apply fast for new internships. I have some friends that have applied online, but I don’t know if it's going to be as conclusive as visiting other farms… I can only do one option, which one should I do?

Laziness chose for me! I put aside the smell and stayed on the smelly farm! Today is my last day here and I regret nothing! The day after I faint, the owner decided to aerate his barn and to change the hay in it. They invited me for diner more often than not in compensation for my first day. I never thought I would be so happy to work on a farm! Now I have a foot in the door because they even proposed to take me for my next internship!

I decided to use well my time management and to send multiple applications online. At first, it seems like the best way to reach a bigger number of vacant positions. I have never been so wrong in my life. Most of the farmers didn’t respond and the others told me that they would have preferred me to come see them in person to have a better impression. I have no longer enough time to complete an intern… Maybe I should have chosen more wisely.

The process of visiting each farm that interested me was overwhelming. I was on the verge of depression until one of them called me back and offered me an internship. He told me that he was going to propose that I work with the pigs, but that his other trainee had left a vacant position to work with the horse. I almost faint again when I told him my choice.

Working with Dr. Tan was the biggest drawback I could have had. The first week, he asks his assistant to explain to me how worked his coffee machine and ever since I have done nothing but prepared him his coffee… He made it clear from the start that after he learned to trust me, I would be able to observe him in action. But every day he finds something negative to say about my coffee! I write a letter to my University association to explain the reason I left my internship early. I should have taken the pretty guy!

I always wonder what it felt like to receive an award. It’s true… I chose to work with Dr. Pete this summer because I hope that he would invite me to the award’s event if he discovers something else with my collaboration. My dreams come true. Dr. Pete and I found a way to reanimate animals that has been dead for a long time. We had to test drive a lot of time, but we finally made it when I proposed him to exchange the chlorine with some vitamin A. The only problem is that when they woke up, it seemed like their sensitive neuronal connection isn’t working anymore, and they can’t feel the pain anymore. Also, their brain’s prefrontal area is damaged after 2 hours of inactivity’s and the participant became extremely aggressive. Yesterday, One of them bites Dr. Pete. Since then, he became weird and I had to put him in a cage because he attacked me. I think we find a way to create zombies… I don’t know what to do! This could save the planet by exterminating the human race! I am thoroughly convinced that this is not a moral situation either. What should I do?

I never knew how to resist a good guy. The time I’ve past with him help me really learn the ropes to become a successful veterinarian in a laboratory. More often than not, he leaves me alone in the laboratory to work on my part of the project. He trusts me a lot. It has now been three weeks since I started working with him on the problem of the diabetic. Since 2010, he tries to find a cure that will prevent people from developing diabetes. Yesterday, while I was working alone, my test tube fall on the ground! I pick it up and insert a syringe in it and then inject the product to the laboratory monkey. Weeks later, we found out that only my monkey wasn’t diabetic anymore. I had to explain to Dr. Gab that when my tube was on the ground, it has been contaminated by some DNA that had previously slipped. This is the discovery of the year, Dr. Gab wants to put his name on my discovery because I am only an internship, but since I’m the one who discovered it I think I should put my own name on it at the risk of losing a friend.

It is funny because my chance of getting an award this year is enormous because I am still a student. This is an invaluable chance I will probably never experience again in my life.

I didn’t know what to do and Dr. Gab seemed so happy about the cure! He calls it a miracle. I don’t want to undermine myself, but I think that Dr. Gab deserves the honor more. I loved my summer! I did so many things! I assisted a horse in childbirth, and there were no more than 2 newborns! The owner told me that he never saw a mare so calm in delivery. My mentor let me even use an endoscope to check the intestinal parts of an animal, and he showed me how to treat a thrombus and so much more! This seems like the end of my journey.

Obviously, I chose the prettiest guy as a mentor. It has almost been two weeks that I work with him. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have to work with a mask, and this is very disobliging because I can’t see his smile when he wears it. He really helps me learn the rope of this career, with him I have seen several cases of hemorrhage, ischemia, edema and many other diseases. I’ve learned about myself that I am a very sensitive person when I see that my patients are in pain. This seems like a problem in my internship as an assistant vet. My mentor told me that I will have to euthanize a dog for our next appointment. He wants me to become tougher, and he wants me to inject the poison. As I think about that, my heart rate increases, and I became breathless. What if I do something wrong?!?! He told me that I would be fired if I don’t euthanize animals… Would I be able to do it?

I’ve always bonded more easily with woman, so I decided to take my internship with the basic white girl. It seems like she hated me the moment she saw me. After my first week, she changed my position and I became a receptionist. She avoids me ever since and I heard that she was undermining me with other colleagues. I reach my University Program, and they told me that I couldn’t continue my studies with them because my stage wouldn’t be completed in time. I finally decided to give my resignation after a couple of days. My only friend at this place told me that the veterinarian hated me because his boyfriend had flashed on me while he had an appointment for his dog. Nothing more stupid could have completely crashed my career.

But I think this was a message from God. I shouldn’t let this new zombie race kill the human race. The other species should not suffer from my office politics. That is why I didn’t open their cage and that I claimed that I was to stress to do anything to help them because of the adrenaline. Also, Dr. Pete’s body burned in the flame. I was dreading that somebody finds out that he died because of me, but nobody ever suspected our discovery.
