University choice.

While finishing my last session in College, I have to make an important decision. I had to choose my University.

Choice 1 : Choose an Ontario University.

Choice 2 : Stay in Montreal and go to McGill.

Both my parents have gone to an Ontario and my uncle too. I've had to go through a lot of drama this past year. I decided to go to Ontario to get away from all the toxic people in my life. My whole family lives there, so I had familiar faces if I needed it. I'm staying in a dorm room with a roommate. She is really nice, and she's one of my best friends here. It's easy to get carried away with the University lifestyle. Sometimes I have a hard time prioritizing.

Choice 1 : Stay in and study hard.

Choice 2 : Go out and meet new people.

Stay in Montreal and go to McGill.

Getting into McGill was hard. I got into my dream program of physiotherapy, but the most important part after getting the partial admission is the interview. I get very stressed and want to show the best version of myself and also prove them that I am worthy of my spot in the school. What is a great benefice of being in Montreal, is having my close family really close by. Staying in Montreal would mean I could keep my work, but I could also change it for something new.

Choice 2 : Change or upgrade.

Stay in and study hard.

I'm someone that is not very social. I need few friends to satisfy me. My roommate is one of my good friends here, but my focus is to succeed in school. My dream is follow a professional sports team to treat their injuries. I want to get straight A's. To achieve that goal, I have to put aside all distractions, my phone, going out and wanting to fit in. I have goals here and I need to do good to get my diploma and to get a good internship.

Choice 1 : Going to my family to prevent distractions.

Go out and meet new people.

I'm in a new town, with new people. The only thing I want to do is go out and party and meet new friends. My roommate is from here, so she introduced me to some new people. She studies in psychology, so she has less school work than I do. Even If I want to go out, I know how to time manage my school work. My roommate, I would say, is a bad influence for me. She makes me lose my work ethic that I've always had.

Luckily, I got a job in a physiotherapy clinic. It was great at the beginning, but now, it has become a toxic environment. I experienced sexual harassment. This job gives all the vacations I want, it is great to have on a resume and especially for University. The men are very flirtatious to a point where it makes me very uncomfortable. I work in a "sport" environment, and us girls have clothes that show off our curves. I am so uncomfortable that I don't know what to do anymore.

Change or upgrade.

My old job was horrible, even with all the benefice it gave me, I'm very happy I left. I decided to change and upgrade for a better environment where I could feel comfortable. I am now at a new physiotherapy clinic. It offers a little less than the last one, but I feel better here. Every workplace has its own story. Here there is a lot of drama. It is very easy to get sucked up in it when you are a new employee. My coworkers always say negatives things about the bosses.

Choice 2 : Quit work to only focus on school.

Finding an internship.

I found a great internship with a sports physiotherapist. She stays on the lines of a soccer game if injuries occur. I used to play soccer so it is also fun to watch soccer teams play against each other. I'm learning from her, I watch her treat the players, I'm learning the ropes. Sometimes, I come in handy when she needs help, because I'm familiar with this field of study. I know that this internship will be a great addition to my resume when I go apply for a real job.

Choice 2 : Continuing to work with this physiotherapy institution.

Where I live, there is not a lot of options for internships in physiotherapy. Everyone acted faster than I did, so I am left with no internship. I will have to wait till next session or next year to find an internship that is to my level. I could also go work in a physiotherapy center, but it would be a foot in the door job. That is not what I'm looking for exactly, but if that is the only option, I will have to take it.

On the job training.

Like any job, there is always OJT, on the job training. I am a trainee in this new place. The great thing about this place is that I get a bigger wage than my last workplace. I have had bad experiences in work environment.

Quit work to only focus on school.

After many bad experiences, maybe I should just be focusing on school and do the best I can. Yes, working is good for the experience, but it was starting to get to me personally in my everyday life. That's when you know it has affected you in a toxic way, and it healthier to take time away from these places and to focus on yourself.

Having a great letter of recommendation.

Because of my letter of recommendation, I got chosen to follow the Impact team of Montreal. Following a soccer as a physiotherapist has been my life dream job. Just to know that I have achieved my goal is so satisfying to me. I get to work on my own and by the side of exceptional physiotherapist. I will learn a lot more in this environment.

Continuing to work with this physiotherapy institution.

After my internship, the company offered me a permanent position with them. Of course, I accepted, because I am very familiar with their work ethics and I know the employees very well. It is a comfortable work environment.

My heart is telling me, deep down, to advance school work a little bit and then go out. School has always been the priority, so why change it now. University is the most important part of your education, I need to be successful. I can also have fun and meet some new friends, but I have to balance everything.

It's very fun to not know anybody in a new city, it is very freeing. Especially when your old entourage was toxic and was growing on you. It is a breath of fresh air. I love meeting new people here, they are very nice, and we share some common interests. I am loving my University experience, but I'm getting stressed about the work load that is waiting for me in my dorm.

Retirement.

With all my life experiences and my career, I am satisfied with myself. I made good money and I have my pension. I will be able to travel and achieve other life goals that have nothing to do with my career. I paid off my mortgage, and I had set aside a lot of money. I will not have the drive of work anymore, it is a new beginning for me.

Going to my family to prevent distractions.

My family is everything and I'm so lucky to have them so close to me while I'm alone in this new province. It is good to get away from all the distractions in the dorms rooms, it is easy to get in the University party scene. I'm not really into that, so I prefer to get away from that, and study in a comfortable place that is familiar to me. Maybe I'll move out of the dorms next session.
