It all started like this.

It was my 1000th day as a construction manager, my alarm woke me up like it did for the last 999 days, but today was different, I was alone. My wife had left me and I didn't have any active contracts. I had a choice to make.

Choice 1 : Stay depressed in bed all day.

The pizza arrived two hours late, it was cold, so I didn't tip the delivery man. I was eating the pizza when I started gasping for air, I tried to force the crust out of my wind pipe with no success I was reaching for the phone when I collapsed and died.

My feast was ready, and I was about to sit down and eat while watching Dumb and dumber when the doorbell rang. I looked on my phone to see who it was, it was my ex-wife. What could she want from me?

Before going to the door I rush to the bathroom to quickly brush my teeth and tidy up. I run back to answer the door hoping that she wants to make up. I open the door and see her beautiful smile. She wants to come in and talk over coffee.

She came in, and we talked, after a little while I started feeling dizzy. She told me that I should go lay down. It turns out my ex-wife had poisoned my coffee, she knew that she was still on my testament, when I died half of my belonging went to her. As she was laying out her plan I started vomiting the amazing breakfast I just had and drowned in my own bed while she watched.

I offered to walk to the closest coffee shop, she accepted but it looked like she had other plans. At the coffee shop, we talked for a while before she confessed that she came because she believed I owed her half the money that my Construction company made, after that point I realized that I had two choices.

I left the coffee shop knowing that I had to give her half of my money and that without that money I would be bankrupt. That conversation was the beginning of the end, after that, I had to sell my condo and even with that cash inflow I had to become a homeless person. A few months later, I had died frozen under a bridge.

We both left the coffee shop at the same time, I knew that if I paid the money I owed her I would be on the street. That's why I had to kill her. I had two plans to do so, and I was unsure which one was the safest.

I got caught by the police, they know it was me, they found her body not far from the bridge where I dumped her. I was sentenced to life in prison and stayed there until I died of old age.

I waited until I got a new contract, I then killed her while she was sleeping. During the night I went to the construction site and buried her corpse under the cement. She was never found and I lived the rest of my life happy and without any worries.

I left for my office after I ate my usual peanut butter and banana toast. On my way to work I saw a smoking car on the side of the road I wasn't sure if I wanted to be late to work just to help someone.

I stopped behind the car and walked over to see if I could be of any help. I was about to knock on the window when the woman who was driving came out of the car, she was panicking because she couldn't afford to tow her car. I offered to tow her behind my car to the nearest garage because I didn't know anything about cars after all, I was only a construction manager. We left her car at the garage and I drove her home, when we arrived she offered me to come in for coffee. I wasn't sure if I wanted to be even later to work.

We talked over coffee, when she learned that I built homes for a living she took my number and gave it to her friend that was trying to build one. At that moment, I was glad I stopped to help her because she got me my client that I desperately needed. After our coffee, I realized that I really needed to go work.

When I finally got to work I called my new client to work out the details of her new home. Like every other project I had to decide if I wanted to build by the code or if I wanted to cut the corners and make more money.

Building a good home was harder and required the best workers. To hire the best you need to pay good money and conduct thorough interviews to see how skillful they are. Once all the crew was hired we started the construction, because our crew was so good it took significantly less time to build the house. From that point on, I built all the other houses with the same crew. We earned the reputation of being the best home builders of the city.

I had decided that I was going to build a home that wouldn't last, as soon as I got the plans and the permits I started building the house. I had hired the cheapest workers money could buy. A couple years later, the client sued me because the house I had built had fallen and killed her maid. I was charged with criminal negligence and lost my contractor licence.

I finally got to work, I was a little bit late but nobody seemed to notice. We were all desperate because we needed a new contract or else we wouldn't be financially viable. I started calling around and two contracts fell on my lap. The first one was a small home on the outskirts of the city and the other one was a huge compound in the middle of the city. The small home would need less investment but would not give us as much money than the compound that would need a lot of money spent and would last a couple months.

I decided to build the compound I was excited to take on such a challenge, but I was also nervous that my crew wouldn't be up to the task. It was such a big contract that there was three others companies like mine on the site. We had to pair up with another company to either be in charge of the foundation and roof or the interior and exterior walls.

Building the house was clearly going to be easier, it would also give me enough money to keep the company going for another 6 months or so. After those 6 months, I would have to look for another contract and another contract until I could eventually retire.

We started working with the company that was paired up with us. Everything was going well until they decided to add too much water in the concrete pump without talking to us. Adding too much water made the concrete crack as it was drying, we had to destroy everything we had done before and do it all over again. Our employer wasn't happy with our work and fired both our company, without that money my company went under and I had to file for bankruptcy.

We were about to start building the exterior walls, when the foundation started cracking. The other teams that were supposed to be in charge of the foundation had messed up and got fired for it. Our employer decided that the whole compound would be built by my company and the other one that was left. We were to build the new foundation as quickly as possible to limit the time loss. It certainly was more work than expected but since we were only 2 building companies we would be getting 2 times more than the initial payout. It seemed like everything was going well for me for once my company would get the recognition it deserved and I would be able to give a raise to all of my employees.
