Time for Big Decisions.

Hi, my name is Shakira Mercier. I am a normal young adult who is still in school. I am completing my second year in the pure and applied science program. I have always dreamed of going into the medical dental program. There are so many ways to get there and I have come to the point where I must decide what I want my next step in life to be. I have always wanted to go to university but lately the dental program offered at college, located in Trois-Rivière has been on my mind.

Choice 1 : University in the Dental Medicine Program.

Choice 2 : College in the Dental Hygienist Program.

University in the Dental Medicine Program.

I have been enjoying my first semester in university. I have met so many nice people who have the same interests as I do. Of course, I have been in my books, studying every chance I get. It is hard work, even harder than my time in college, but I am passionate of the work I will get to do once I have completed the program. Everything has been going according to plan: good friends, great grades and having an amazing time. I have been offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to go study in the south of the states in one of the greatest dental clinics. Of course, that would mean taking time off of university.

Choice 1 : Go to the Dental Clinic in the United States.

Choice 2 : Finish my University.

College in the Dental Hygienist Program.

I was nervous about going back to college. My first program hadn’t been as fun as I had thought it would be. I had made some amazing friends, but I wasn’t passionate about the classes I was taking. After my first semester, I knew I had made the right choice, I was doing what I had been dreaming to do ever since a very young age. I truly enjoy being a dental hygienist, and I don’t know if I should keep going further in my studies or work full time once I finished my last year in college.

Choice 1 : Go to university after my College Dental Program.

Choice 2 : Work Full Time as a Dental Hygienist.

Go to the Dental Clinic in the United States.

Once I got there, I was able to follow around an orthodontist with a prestigious reputation. It was nothing like going to school, I got to assist him with patients, I was no longer reading the scenarios out of textbooks, I was seeing them and dealing with them in real life. I was nervous for the first few weeks, but I was reassured when he told me that mistakes could happen, even he made some after years and years of being an orthodontist. After a full year of working under him, the clinic offered me a job and told me they would help me pay for the rest of my time in university!

Finish my University.

Everything kept going as well, I got to finish my bachelor’s degrees and was even accepted into my master’s degree: I was going to become an orthodontist in just a few years. I was confident that I was going to love completing my master's degree, even if it meant hard work. I was ready to put in all the time and efforts necessary to get that degree. All my hard work and determination was finally being rewarded!

Go to university after my College Dental Program.

I have been accepted to the dental program in university. Most of the people studying with me seem to be as passionate as me of the field we are all studying. It feels like we are just one big family, we study together and help one another out as much as we can. I have been in school for so many years, but I don’t regret my decision, I am learning so many interesting things! I now have the ambition to open up my very own dental clinic once I am finished with school and I have my diploma.

Work Full Time as a Dental Hygienist.

I have decided not to go back to school. I have been certified as a dental hygienist and I love my job. Working full time has allowed me to spend more time with my friends and family. I have been hired in a small dental clinic not too far away from where I grew up. I have been lucky enough to buy a beautiful house near my family with the love of my life. I have settled down and I am truly happy.
