My Miracle as an Occupational Therapist.

Before I even believed in magic.

Have you ever heard of John Green’s Paper Town? The book, adapted to the cinema few years ago, begins with this sentence: “The way I figure it, everyone gets a miracle.” Well, until this year, the sentence sounded unreal to me. There is a myriad of things that happened in my life. Let me put you up to speed. Everything began during my last year of college. I was drowning trying to put up with all the exams and the late homework we had to hand in by the end of the week. I had not slept for two days straight. I was demoralized and I was about to abandon. There was no way I could get through this... I mean, that’s what I thought. Three weeks after that night, I received my R score. I was so relieved! It was great! During my moment of cheerfulness, I had not noticed my family was staring at me. My mom asked me why I was smirking at my phone. I told her that it was because my biggest dream would come true. I would become an occupational therapist and I would be:

Choice 1 : Going to Sherbrooke University.

Choice 2 : Going to Belgium.

Occupational Therapist

Going to Sherbrooke University.

Today is the day. I am moving to my new apartment. I am a little nervous because I am far from home and I do not know a lot of people there. Furthermore, living with someone I do not know freaks me out. What if they discover my secret? I am not ready. I still have nightmares. I still see the man who opened fire in my school’s cafeteria. His livid eyes starring at his victims taking their last breather. I still hear the screams. I still feel the unbearable pain of the fragments I received. I still see Jack trying to deject the trajectory of the bullets. I do not want to have to tell them how he died. How my soulmate sacrificed his life to save mine. (flashback- literary device) Before my new roommate arrives I had the time to unpack almost all of my stuff. I took liberty to choose the room the farthest from the door has possible. You never know what could happen. That way, if someone enters our apartment I will have time to hide. After six hours of unpacking, I finally decided to relax a little and to try my new couch. I put my favorite movie onscreen: The Fault in our Stars. The story behind this movie is so intense and I love the plot. Hazel and Gus were about to kiss for the first time when I heard the door unlocking. I panicked a little. But then, I realized it must be the girl I will be living with. I put my movie on pause and that is when I saw him. Yes, you read well: HIM. How could I have known that Cameron was also a guys name? What should I do?

Choice 1 : Try to find a new apartment.

Choice 2 : Put up with it.

Going to Belgium.

Today is my flight. I am a little bit stressed out. It is my first time in a crowded room since the accident. I heard that airports are really safe. No one should bring a gun there and if they do it is unlikely they don’t get caught. There was a shooting at my school cafeteria two years ago. Since that day, I am home schooled, but it is all about to change. My departure is the onset of my new life. I will live in the dorm rooms because I do not have the money to pay an apartment there. Plus, I really want to focus on my studies and amass the better grades I can. Being an occupational therapist is my biggest dream. I discovered this profession after the shooting. I had to do a little bit of rehabilitation and that amazed me. Since that day, it is my only goal in life. It has been three weeks since the beginning of the classes and my roommates want me to go out with them because I never do. I hesitate and choose to:

Choice 1 : Stay home and study.

Choice 2 : Go out with them.

Belgium

Put up with it.

“Hi, my name is Élodie”, I say. My voice quivers, but he does not seem to notice. He looks like a musician. Maybe if I am lucky enough he will not be home often because all of his gigs. “Hi, I am Cameron, nice to meet you” he answers. He seems nice. We talk a little then we finish listening to my movie together. After that, I decide to go to sleep. (To be continued).

I can not live with a boy. He seems nice and all, but I just can’t. I have to focus on my studies, and I know myself if I live with him there is no way I will be able to focus on my clinical trials. I call the landlord and ask him if there are other rooms that are available. Unfortunately, he says no. (To be continued).

Stay home and study.

I decided to study for my exam on professional practices in rehabilitation. I love that course. It is so entertaining. There is no way I could have gotten this much fun going to the party. (To be continued).

Go out with them.

We are walking to the house. We are still a few blocs away, but we can hear the people that are already there. It is really loud. I panic a little. This is all too overwhelming to me. Too many people. I try to calm down, but Stacy catches a glance of my face and understands what is happening. I like Stacy. That is why I told her about the accident. She tells the other girls we will meet them there because she wanted to show me something. I thanked her. (To be continued).
