D Day.

Today is the day. Everything lies on my decision. Representatives of CEGEP's from across Quebec are here, at my school. I can feel the blood flow in my veins. It's the moment where I decide whether I will become a successful engineer or maybe a maths' teacher. However, I am sick and tired of waking up early, going to school all day and studying all night. This hellish routine has got to come to an end. I have been meditating for a lot of time, and I may even consider dropping out of school completely to travel the world and fulfill my hunger to life with limitless adventures.

Choice 1 : Become an engineer.

Choice 2 : Become a maths' teacher.

Choice 3 : Travel the world.

Become an engineer.

Becoming an engineer and creating new things based on scientific concepts sounds like a good choice to me since I love maths, excel in physics and am not bad in chemistry either. My curious mind loves a challenge and my rational way of thinking seems to always reward me with great solutions to many problems that I encounter on a daily basis. Why not make out of my talent a living? I could become a mechanical engineer, a civil engineer and even an electrical engineer. The choices are limitless.

Working with cars, planes and all sorts of mechanical engines sounded like a lot of fun at first. But now I realize that, even though I enjoy working in machinery and discovering multiple ways to solve equations and dilemmas, being a mechanical engineer is not something I could pull off for the rest of my life. Maybe, I should re-evaluate my choice more in-depth, and get to know myself better before making another crucial choice like this one.

Become a civil engineer.

As soon as I set foot in the door of my Art and Design class, I knew this was not my scene. I may be good at most subjects in this program, but architecture isn't really something I am passionate about... I would rather get involved in a more "technology-related" field. I should probably reconsider my choice before getting sucked up in this program for the rest of my life.

Become an electrical engineer.

I think this is it. I found the major that might bring the most fulfillment into my life. Solving equations, decoding formulas, connecting wires together to get that circuit flowing and bringing life into common every-day objects is what I live for. I can't wait to get my first job as an electrical engineer.

Become a maths' teacher.

What's better than practicing your favorite subject for the rest of your life? I can't wait to teach new generations about the beauty of geometry and symmetry, the complex numbers that compile with each other to create the perfect equation. I find that this subject lack of nothing and comes closer than anything to perfection. Its nature, which is so rational, so detailed and exceptionally complete and flawless - except for pi- leaves my scientific mind thriving for more. I can't wait to influence further generations to endear this philosophy and live by it the way I do.

Being an electrical engineer.

After being hired as a Junior Electrical Engineer at "Cryopak", I started getting used to the idea of success in what I love to do. Even though I am being promised by all the Senior partners to start earning a premium wage for my huge contributions to the company, I feel like I could accomplish even more with my passion. I am thinking about starting my own company.

Travel the world.

One of my wildest dreams has always been to forget about social pressure and embrace my “savage” side. What better way to learn about stuff than to see everything from your own eyes? I am giving up all these useless studies, and I am going to invest all my time and energy in traveling. However, to do so, I also need money to invest. There isn’t much I can do with only a high school diploma, so I can either work in a minimum wage job or volunteer, so I could travel for free in order to help those in need….

Being a high school teacher.

I thought I'd found my purpose in teaching the youth a very important subject to me. I was more than anything wrong. These little delinquents would rather engage in all sorts of maddening activities rather than focusing on getting straight A's. I was so shook by their misconduct that I started wondering if all of my principles were even worthwhile... I thought that seeing my students prosper would be a good enough reward for my hard work, but after these demons dreaded all my energy I have decided to take a step back and rethink my choice...

Work in a fast food chain.

I am working at McDonald's as a full-time employee to flip burgers and serve over-salted fries. I thought that by working for a while I could set aside a little bit of money to travel. I had to learn the hard way that this was a drudgery. I could never be able to pay all of my bills and taxes and still afford to travel. Even if I managed to get a "raise" some day, I would never come close to anything I had anticipated. Let's face it, this is a dead-end job and I have to put an end to this.

Volunteer in humanitarian causes.

Last week, I came back from my very first humanitarian trip to the Philippines. I have to say that doing something thoughtful to those in need has really helped me grow as a human being. However, earning no income isn't really a good idea to put aside money for my pension. I can't live off traveling for free and should find myself a more stable plan.

Keep my job.

After all the experience I have acquired in this company, I realized that hard work and dedication aren't always going to get me to the top. Life is unfair and special treatment always goes to the most privileged. They assigned the owner's son the title of Senior partner. I regret not seizing the opportunity when I had it.

Start my own company.

I have to admit that it was hard at first. I went through thick and thin to accomplish what I am today : the boss of me. Here I am managing everything related to my job and calling the big shots. I have never felt such a drive to work and I can say that all these sacrifices have been worthwhile. I am living the dream.
