The beginning of my career.

Finally, after 3 years at Ahuntsic College, years of hard work, straight A's an intense training I finally passed the Police Academy and I'm ready to have my dream job. It was more difficult than I expected with the background check, the in-depth training and the time management, but I'm not a trainee anymore and I won't have a dead-end job for the rest of my life. I'm so excited to start my dream job but I don't know where to go, the volunteering that I did, opened a lot of doors but where to go?

Choice 1 : SQ.

Choice 2 : SPVM.

Choice 3 : Go for the GRC program.

Choice 4 : The municipal police of Terrebonne.

SQ.

I made a great choice by joining the SQ because of my past job with them as a student. They we really impressed but said to me that to work with them I have to continue training because they have a physical test. I think that I'm in good shape but the test seems a little bit hard. Should I continue training for a little bit or attempt the test right now?

Choice 1 : I don't train at all.

Choice 2 : I start training right away.

SPVM.

I did the application for the SPVM, and to my surprise I got picked in the first draft, and they gave me the choice of my field of work. I can either start with an office job that goes in depth of the criminal activities in Montreal or I can start in a patrol car with a senior partner after completing the on the-job-training.

Choice 1 : Start in the office.

Choice 2 : Start in a patrol car.

Go for the GRC program.

Even though I just finished school, I chose to start another program to learn invaluable skills that I would not have learned if I chose to work right away. I am really happy with my decision and I'm even paid to do my training. Even if I have a job with them, they gave me the choice to go north where they are more opportunities or I can stay locally with my family and friends. What should I do?

Choice 1 : Go north.

Choice 2 : Stay locally.

The Municipal Police of Terrebonne.

I decided to join the Municipal Police of Terrebonne because it's my local town and I already know the town by heart. I enjoy working there even if there is not much going on. After 2 years working with them I got an opportunity to go work in an investigating agency for Longueuil's police force. They think that I have a great drive of work and I learned the ropes very quickly. What should I do, start a new job with a better income or stay in my local town where I'm at ease?

Choice 1 : Go for the other job.

Choice 2 : Stay in Terrebonne.

A big mistake.

Because I decided to not train harder, I didn't pass the admission test. I was sure of my physical abilities but I didn't realise the lack of effort that I put into this admission. If I want to pursue my dream, I have 2 choices, either I start again or I apply as a security officer.

Choice 1 : Start again.

Choice 2 : Become a security officer.

I'm in!

I decided to hire a training coach to develop specific abilities and I think it really paid off. I got the job! After 1 year of hard work and intense training I can finally say that I'm working for the SQ and my sense of fulfillment is at its peak. I now have two choices, I can start working right away on patrol or I can specialize in a crime field.

Choice 1 : I go for the patrol job.

Choice 2 : I specialize in a crime field of my choice.

My office jobs for the SPVM.

At first, I thought in was a great idea to go work in an office where I could go in depth in the law aspect of the job but I did realise quickly that this was a huge mistake and that I don't want a dead-end-job. I am really disappointed but since I'm already in the police field I can easily transfer to any other jobs that I would like, but definitely not an office job!

Choice 1 : Start again.

My patrolling.

This is my dream job, I couldn't ask for more. From the non-predictable situations to the interactions with the citizens of my town, this what I dreamed about for years and I can't believe that I have the chance of doing this. I really learned the ropes quickly and my commander in chief is really proud of my progress and my effectiveness as a police officer. What can I say? It's easy doing a job that is fun and entertaining. I couldn't ask for more.

Choice 1 : Have a good career.

A huge mistake.

When I decided to go north, I didn't realise that I couldn't be with my family and friends for very long periods of time and I really do miss them. Even if there are a lot of possibilities for jobs up here, I feel very lonely and I feel like I can't enjoy my work at is full potential if I'm not happy where I am. I can keep this job that pays a lot or transfer to a police station near my family and friends. What should I do?

Choice 1 : Continuing working up north.

Choice 2 : Transfer to a patrol job near my local town.

One of the best decisions of my life.

This was a great decision because I can be near my family and friends. Even if there isn't the number of jobs like up north, I found a great job that specializes in criminal groups near my family on the south shore of Montreal. Even if I questioned this decision for a long period, I couldn't ask for more and I have access to a great retirement pension plan at the end of my career.

The investigator.

At first, I wasn't sure about working as an investigator because I thought in was a dead-end-job at an office working to do mandates, but I was wrong. In fact, my experience in Terrebonne has come in handy in many situations in the field as well as in the office. I was wrong to say that it was just an office job because it's a lot more than that and I really like it. Even if there's more overtime at work, I find it more fulfilling to work big cases. This job really did surprise me.

Choice 1 : Have a happy career as an investigator.

The choice of staying in Terrebonne.

I chose to stay locally because I already learned the ropes of this job and I didn't want to do more on-the-job-training. 5 years later, the officer of the Terrebonne's police force just gave me the opportunity of becoming a team leader but that would imply more office time but also a better salary. What should I do?

Choice 1 : Stay at this job and continue my career.

Choice 2 : Take the raise.

The start of a new career.

Even if I was disappointed that I wasn't picked to become a police officer, I decided to try to become a security officer. After completing thoroughly the additional training I was left with 3 choices, work for the GARDA company, go on my own to do private security or work for the airport security.

Choice 1 : Working for the GARDA company.

Choice 2 : Go do private security.

Choice 3 : Go work for airport security.

Continuing working up north.

Even if I wasn't sure about leaving my family at first, the time passed and I started a family of my own. I am now happy where I am. Also, I started a new job for the GRC that involves criminal investigations nationwide and I really like it. I am now happy that I stuck with my decision because I now have the opportunity to do a job that isn't accessible in my local town.

Choice 1 : Live a happy life up north.

Becoming a team leader.

I took this job because of the higher salary and better retirement plan at first but I did realise quickly it's a great opportunity to make a greater difference in my home town because repressing crime is my main goal to assure that my family and the citizens of my town are safe.

Choice 1 : Be a team leader for the rest of my career.

Specializing in a crime field.

After joining the SQ I decided to specialize in a problematic that is common in our societies, drugs. By doing that, I can not only have a better salary but I go around police stations in our province to give advice to police officer's on how to adapt their interventions with the drug world. It's a great job and it was worth the additional training.

Choice 1 : Continue my career as a drug specialist.

Working for the GARDA company.

I started working at the GARDA company with the intention of doing security at events but it turns out this company does a lot more. In fact, I started doing the transport of money bags between banks and I really like it because it reminds myself of a police officer's job with the danger, It also pays really well so even if I'm not a police officer, I am really happy with my decision.

Choice 1 : Have a good career as a money transporter.

Doing private security.

At first, I really liked this job because I worked at my own expenses, for my own company and for contracts that vary a lot but I did realise quickly that there isn't a lot of contracts that I can take, so I have difficulties with money. If I want to stay near my field of interest, I will need soon or later to start all over again.

Choice 1 : I need to start over and become a police officer.

Working for the airport security.

It's been approximately 1 year since I started this job, I find it very repetitive and the salary isn't that great, but I need a job, so I'm obligated to stay. Recently I got a request from the SQ to retry the physical test because I had straight A's in almost all of my courses in school, and they wanted to offer me a job. I am 100% sure that I will take this opportunity because I don't really like working at the airport.

Choice 1 : I will start a new career at the SQ.
