A big decision.

After three years of study, I finally got my technical diploma in medical ultrasound. The advantage with a technique at cegep is to be able to be directly in the job market at the end of your studies. I out do myself to have this diploma. During my journey, I often wanted to give up. I had a hard time focusing on my studies. I studied tirelessly every day both at home and at school. I loved the internships at the end of the sessions. I had the opportunity to put the machinery into practice on several patients and apply my lessons learned in class. I am very proud to put it through to the end of my program. I will not be able to route this entire route without the encouragement or help of my family and my friends. During a family reunion, my cousins ​​and I talked about our future. Many of them go to university. I'm the only one with a three-year program. My parents would like me to go to university. They think that by continuing my studies, I will have more opportunities and advantages for my future. I understand their point of view, but I'm not sure I want to continue to persist in school. If I don't decide to persevere, I'm afraid of disappointing my parents. What should I do?

Go to the University.

I finally decided to go to university to please my parents. When they heard the news, they were so excited. I will try to give my maximum and go as far as possible in my studies so that they can be proud of their daughter. I know they will support me as much at university as at cegep. I know studying is important to my parents. I do not want to disappoint them even if the idea does not cheer me up. There are not many universities that offer further studies in medical ultrasound. I inquired and the program is given at Laval University or Montreal University.

To be directly in the job market.

I decided to look for a job. I am satisfied with my studies. The cegep was sufficient for my knowledge of medical ultrasound. I have announced to my family and friends that I will not go to university. Even though my parents told me that they would support my decision, they seemed disappointed. After saying them, I decide to take the lead. Towards the workplace, I had many options. I could deposit my CV at several locations for example public centers like hospitals and CLSC or private clinics.

Choice 1 : Public center.

Choice 2 : Private clinics.

Laval University.

The Laval University is one of the largest universities in Canada. I drove for three hours to go to the open doors of the university because it was located in Quebec. While walking through the school, I discovered the department of radiology and nuclear medicine which immediately caught my eye. I was helped by the presentation of the young student and her colleague. It made me want to know and learn more. I am surprised so much opportunity that can open for a program. On the other hand, the location is very far from my parents. I should move to Quebec if I decide to study there.

Montreal University.

The University of Montreal is one of the sevens higher education institutions in Montreal. It is one of the five major universities in Canada. The university has a department of radiology, radiation oncology and nuclear medicine. I was very surprised when I arrived at the open house to have discovered that there was an entire institution for the program. There are so many options in this big establishment.

Public center.

I went to the children's hospital called the mother and child university hospital center. It is the largest mother-child center in Canada. Public centers like this one demand more to employ because they receive many customers every day. The hospital is home to many pregnant women and children. In front of the reception, I meet an employer in a bad mood. She spoke very badly to the patients. I had to keep my patient before she served me because she was talking on the phone. In the public sector, job stability is an advantage because it has a many of employees. In a hospital, we had nurses who could help to reduce the tasks of doctors. In addition, some young students have the opportunity to practice their technique on-the-job-training. On the other hand, the salary in the public service being determined by a grid, the evolution of salaries will therefore be very slow compared to the private sector. That won't stop me from doing my job. I will try my best to serve my patients as well as possible.

Private clinics.

The private sector is a sector which is much more stressful compared to the public sector where the positions are more varied. There is much more competition between the employees. Businesses are also not immune to crises and businesses can go bankrupt overnight, the job is not secure. Putting the downsides aside, the advantage in a private sector is the salary which is more scalable. During my interview, the director told me that in his kind of private clinics I could easily go from an intern to a higher position By proving yourself, the possibilities for career development are numerous. However, it requires hours of work. There is even talked overtime, because the number of employees is limited. The time management is difficult. Some employees are overworked, and they can't be absent. Maybe one day I will open my own clinic but on condition that my employees are competent and that they trust me in return I will treat them like royalty.
