Started from the bottom.

After years of researching in which field of psychology I was going to get into, my father suddenly made me realize that I adored the elderly and that was in this vocation that I had to go. This is why I then studied in Social Science, The Individual, at Montmorency College. Subsequently, I will specialize in gerontology. I still hesitate if I go into management in a retirement home, in real estate with the elderly or in psychologist with the elderly. The important thing in this is that I know that I'm in the right field of study.

Choice 1 : I should go in management in a retirement home.

Choice 2 : I should go real estate with the elderly.

Choice 3 : I should go psychologist with the elderly.

Choice 1 :

10 years have passed and I'm now the account manager of a retirement home that is called ''Le Group Maurice'', in Laval. I absolutely love my job, and we have an amazing team. My job doesn't stress me a lot, although there is a lot to deal with by being responsible for several tasks. I finally realized my dream job : To work with the elderly while having a good salary, in a pleasant working environment. I think I really found my place and I really want to stay there until I retire. I am so grateful for this opportunity that I got when I was just out of University. My mother's friend was the general manager of this residence, so he immediately thought of me when a management position opened up. Before I got my promotion to fill the position I currently occupied, I then did my best to be the best employee and give my one hundred pour cent every day. It was pretty easy to be implicated into this, because I love it so much. Even today, I didn't consider this like a job for me, it's more like an occupation. To this day, I am so proud of myself that I have come to this standard of living where I am so happy.

Choice 2 :

This is my first contract with my first client as a real estate with the elderly. When I left Montmorency College, I took a real estate training course to specialize in this area. I was extremely passionate about the course and I knew from the begging that was it. This is what I wanted to do in my life. So, I decided to start distributing my applications in several retirement homes. I haven't had any calls in two weeks, until a company called “Jardin des Sources” called me. At this moment, I had a feeling it would be positive. Finally a call! I was so desperate that no one wanted me that it affected my mood every day. They accepted me right away, without an interview! Then, only a week later I was already starting to work there. Two months later, I signed my first sale. This elderly person wanted a home in one of our establishments in Montreal. The first accommodation I showed him was exceptional. He immediately falls in love with the apartment. Three short days later, the contract was settled. Since that day, my contracts have been linked one after another and I am very proud of myself.

Choice 3 :

This is where I am now : A psychologist for the elderly. To be honest, I don't really like my job, I find it super heavy on morale. When I get home, I feel drained and exhausted. In life, I'm a very emotional and empathetic person, which is a big issue with this job. I love my clients and maybe that is the major problem. I love them so much that it causes me pain. That is too much for me to see them like that. I have a hard time staying professional and not having my eyes full of water when I see them sad. I think that this job is not for me. I have been doing this job for over five years now, but I think it will soon be over. It affects me too much. I am thinking of reorienting myself in another area, but keeping the same style of a clientele. Maybe in management with the elderly...
