This is the beginning of my career as a student-athlete. I had to learn how to be a great student and athlete.
Choice 1 : My debuts
Choice 2 : My selfish moments.
Choice 3 : Better teammate and student.

My basketball career started when I was young. I love this sport because it helps to be a better student and a better person. I like playing in Thetford because I am with my friends, and I am not far from my family that lives in Quebec City. Basketball has though me a lot about life. After 3 years in Thetford, this is my last year, and I am excited for the next adventures. At first, when I started playing basketball, I wasn't confident. I was around 10-year-old in elementary school when I started playing. At that age, kids have no self-confidence and are easily intimidating. After every practice, I went to my bed sad and angry because my teammates were better than me. I couldn't eat anything. I was crying a lot after practices. My coaches were harder on me because they saw potential in me and knew that I could be a great player. My dream didn't change. I want to play in the NBA, so I need to be great at school and confident on the court. I haven't other choices; I had to do extra work and wake up very morning to go in the gym by myself to practices alone. I was more focus on Basketball than school, and I started to be selfish.

When I started high school, I was better at basketball, so I knew that I needed to do my homework and have good grades to play, but I did the opposite of it. Basketball was the only thing I wanted to do, and I didn’t care about school anymore even if I knew I should more care. My teachers were nice to me, so I thought that they would give me good grades. "Basketball is more important. I will study tomorrow"; that is what I was telling myself every time. One day in college, I forgot to study for a test. It was the biggest test of the semester. I knew that if I didn’t pass this one, I couldn’t play for the rest of the year. I did it and I failed. My coaches and teammates were mad at me because I was one of the most important players, and they couldn’t win without me. My coaches looked at me that day and told me “You are incompetent and selfish”. I couldn’t say anything because I knew that If I studied that night, I wouldn’t have failed.

I started playing basketball in elementary school. I felt in love with this sport. All of my friends were playing. We were all playing on the same team. The fact that we were all playing together motivates me but also distracted me at school. When I was younger, I wasn’t as good as I am at basketball right now. I had to put more efforts that my teammates to play with them. In college, I became better at basketball, but I stopped putting efforts in school. My grades weren’t good because of my lack of study and my laziness. Today I’m in my third year at Cegep of Thetford and I can finally say that basketball taught me a lot of things in life. It taught me to be a hard-working person on and of the court and to put efforts in the things I want to achieve. It showed me how important it is to work for what we want in life. I’m grateful for the lessons because it helps me to be a better student. Now, I know that I must study to play my sport and reach my goal; being an NBA player. I cannot take my grades for granted anymore because playing basketball comes with good grades.
