Beginning of a new path.

I finally graduated from college after two years studying Social Science the Individual at Montmorency College. I am now facing a difficult decision. I don't know whether I should apply to a university to continue my studies in Psychology or take a break and work for a while.

Choice 1 : I decided to apply at a university to continue my studies in Psychology.

I applied to Concordia University in Psychology to continue my studies further. I don't really know what to expect. I am afraid and nervous at the same time.

I applied and passed a few interviews here and there a full time job as an intern. I heard that doing internships can be highly beneficial for someone's career in the future. Not only I can set a foot in the door, I can also learn the ropes related to my future employment and earn a wage. A week have passed and I received a call from two places.

Choice 1 : I got a job offer at a counseling center.

Choice 2 : I got a job offer at a corporation.

I got admitted.

I had low expectation of being accepted but I actually got admitted to my chosen program, I have no words to explain how I feel right now. My only main concern is the fact that it is my first year in university. I am afraid to fail a course because I want to do my best and aim for straight A's. However, I don't know if it is doable with the number of course I have.

I got rejected.

I don't know what to say. I feel disappointed in myself and I don't know what to do. I guess I am going to reflect on myself.

I got a job offer at a counseling center.

After checking my background, an employee from the HR department contacted me. I met with them to discuss a few things before they officially hire me. As much as I want to accept the offer right away, unfortunately, I lack of experience for one of the conditions required. They could keep the vacant position for me but I have to fulfill the missing requirement within a week.

I got a job offer at a corporation.

I got my background checked and met with the HR department. We talked for about 15 minutes. Afterwards, before I officially got started, they explained what I had to do on my first day. They also informed me that are strictly prohibited at the workplace. They let me go around a little bit while they finish preparing a few things, and told me to come back after 40 minutes.

Choice 2 : I exit the office and wandered around the building.

No need to think about it any further, I allow myself to take it easy. After all it is the first semester of my first year, I can always make up for this choice by taking the class another semester.

Attend all classes first.

I attended all of my classes at least once for the first two weeks, since school started, before making my final decision. This way, I would get an idea of how the teacher give the lesson. After reviewing my time management, I came to a conclusion that one particular course bothers me.

Choice 2 : Allow more time.

The course was interesting. Sadly, on the first lesson, the teacher gave us a ton of homework. He then explained even further, that it would work this way every lesson until the end of the semester. Moreover, what he explained during class was unclear. I felt defeated. Those two reasons are more than enough to make me lose motivation to attend the class again.

It has been four weeks since I started taking this course. Today is the deadline to drop a course and I still have a hard time deciding if I still want to keep the course on my schedule until the end of the semester.

Keeping in mind that I have to fulfill the requirement needed within a week, which is my commitment for a volunteer activity in order to broaden my experience. I decided to accept the offer.

I rejected the offer.

It was a great opportunity, but I was not meant for it since I lack of skills. I could not be selfish, I am pretty sure someone is more fitting for the position than I am. This means that I have to work harder.

I don't know where to volunteer. I was doomed to lose this job opportunity.

Volunteering at a retirement home.

I was a little skeptical, because it was my first time doing a volunteering activity. I actually enjoyed it at the end of it, and I felt a sense of accomplishment. It led me to a new decision that I never thought about. I now have two choices in mind.

Choice 1 : Going back to the counseling center.

Choice 2 : Give up on the internship to volunteer abroad.

I went back to the counseling center to claim the vacant position to work as a counselor in order to help people with dealing with psychological issues. However, they went back on their words, and instead, I got informed that the vacant position was given away since they found a more suitable person. I was shocked and sad.

Give up on the internship to volunteer abroad.

I gave up the idea of the internship at the counseling center. Don't get me wrong, I still want to become a psychologist, but I want to explore new things and the most important purpose of my decision is to create an invaluable memory. The volunteer activity gave me the motivation to take a step further and try volunteer abroad. It might have a different outcome for my future career.

I went to the bathroom.

I went to the bathroom and I overheard a conversation on my way. Fortunately, I did not get discovered. I saw one person taking a large sum of money to exchange for a file that seemed important. To witness this kind of thing on my first day of work, made me realize how complex the job market is and question myself what choice should I make in this kind of situation.

Choice 1 : It is none of my businesses, leave it as it is.

Choice 2 : Tell the HR department about it.

I exit the office and wandered around the building.

I took about 30 minutes to visit the different floor of the company and also got lost. I decided to go back to the HR department. I took the elevator and there was a sorrowful looking male employee standing next to me.

Choice 1 : I talked to him.

Choice 2 : I ignored him.

It is none of my businesses, leave it as it is.

I don't want to get involved, let's pretend that I didn't see anything.

This is corruption, tell the HR department.

I went back to the HR to tell them what I encountered, but I saw the exact same man standing in the office. I couldn't bring myself to open my mouth as I was too scared of the possible outcome that might happen to me.

It is going to be a nightmare if I continue to take this course. I have been doing a poor job with this course. Every time the teacher gave me a homework, I would give it a cursory glance and it always ended up being undone. Moreover, I already failed three quizzes, it proves that we are not meant for each other.

I have no choice but to keep it.

I already bought the required textbook for this course, and I can't get a refund anywhere. It means that I have to keep this course until the end of the semester. Moreover, I have been doing pretty well, I managed to get through the assignments pretty smoothly and pulled off straight A's. I just hope that I can stay consistent in this way until the end of the semester at least, but it would be even better if it could be until the end of my studies.

I talked to him.

I asked him why he looked this way. He explained to me that the reason was because he had to work overtime for the past 2 weeks, and he was completely drained. He did not have time to spend with his family and friends. He couldn't do anything about it because he felt totally powerless against his superior. I started to think what I would become if I was in his shoes.
