It was the time of year you dreaded the most, the time everyone wanted answers. Answers you couldn’t always find. This pressure, you felt as much at home as at school. It was your last year of high school, your last year when everything was already written in advance. From the moment you entered your English class, on your first day, you were bombarded with questions about your future, about what you wanted to do later. Questions that projected you too far into the future to your liking. You were kind of undecided, knowing what to eat for lunch was a big choice, so already knowing what your future will be made of was impossible. It was almost time for you to meet the guidance counselor, the stress was only rising. You knew your parents wanted you to go to college to become a doctor or a doctor. Your friends saw you becoming an architect since your drawings were always realistic. Yet deep down, you knew you wanted to fulfill your dream and become a specialized educator. So, what are you going to choose...

An unexpected turn...

You were decided, your choice was the right one and nothing could change your mind. The counselor smiled when he opened the door to his office to let you in. The stress came back to you, but this time it wasn’t about your future, the guidance counselor always seemed like a creep. Whether it was because of his empty eyes, his unhealthy jokes or because of his advisers who were not worth much. You had heard several rumors about him. You did not know which were founded and which were false. You remember asking yourself if the school did a background check before hiring her. When you sat in front of him, the secretary asked for him forward. It was then that you said to yourself that you could finally see who he was. All you have to do is look in his computer, it was easy he was there open in front of you. You were sure he wasn’t coming back for a few minutes. The voice of your conscience told you not to do it, but the voice of curiosity cried out to you to do it.

It's true that sometimes it's a good thing to listen to it, but in your story that wasn't the right choice. You were so bored because the counselor wasn't back that you decide to leave and continue your life.

When you opened the computer, you started sneaking into the files hoping to find a sign or a mistake that would confirm all of your suspicions. You didn’t know anything about orientation, so everything that was written sounded like gibberish to you. You were starting to lose hope of finding anything suspicious and the minutes were starting to move on before the councilman came back. A small detail appeared at the bottom of the screen. There was a name, a name that seemed familiar to you while being the last name of a stranger. You were wondering why Jérôme Tremblay was written there when the councillor’s name was Jérôme St-Clair. You were about to do a search on this Jérôme Tremblay when the office door opened and the director and Mr. St-Clair or Tremblay were in the door frame. The director looked at you funny and asked you what you were doing on the computer. The counselor looked at you with a look of stress mingling with anger. The truth.

When you've decided to tell the truth, the director looks at you in fury. He then that it was a privacy invasion and not acceptable in this school. You were told to leave the school immediately because you were suspended. When your parents picked you up, they look at you with a lot of disappointment.

You didn't want to lie because you knew that wasn't right. But you couldn't take the chance to be suspended. You knew that your allegation were maybe wrong so you didn't want to piss the director and counselor. So you lied to them by saying that you were doing research for a French work and because it's take long for the counselor to come back.

After you lied to the Director, you went back to the Councilman. This time, you had the most suspicions about this person whose last name is still a mystery. You tried to listen to what he had to say, but you couldn’t. The counselor was trying to figure out if you had found out what job you wanted to go into, but you were holding on to the doubt that he could ruin your luck. When you walked out of his office the first thing you did was find someone to talk to to to continue your research. When, you walked down the hallways to get back to your locker, you met a friend there. You wanted to talk about it, but you knew he wouldn’t be able to keep such a big secret. When he saw you coming, he asked you how your meeting had been and if you had made discoveries? You looked at him a little suspicious but decided to answer him….

He didn't believe you and tells you that doesn't make any sense. He also tell you that it's not right to search on the computer of somebody else. And he leave you alone in the hallways.

You didn't want to lie to him to so you just tell him that everything was boring. You then pretended that you were more interested in his life than about your meeting.

A project that seems strangely interesting...

After you told him that you wanted to become a specialist educator and not a doctor or architect, your friend told you about his project of volunteering abroad. It’s not that you weren’t interested, but you never felt like doing that kind of volunteer work. You always liked better helping your immediate community first and then the third world. Your friend kept talking about talking all the time and didn’t notice that you were paying almost more attention to him. Until your friend pronounces the name of the guidance counselor as the lead on this project for an organization. He invited you to come to the information meeting. You hesitated because you had to do one the job training for the new employee at your job. You thought about the alternatives in front of you, whether you asked another employee to do his training or you respect the commitment you had with your boss.

When you arrived, you search for the counselor but didn't find him anywhere, You ask your friend if he knows where Mr. St-Clair was, but he said that he wouldn't be there for this meeting. After knowing that, you receive a call from your you boss telling you that you were fired because you didn't respect you engagement.

When you were at your job, you did the on the job training with the new guy. He was good enough and you could take a longer break because he was able to do the job by himself. You also had an increase in seasonality because of your great job.

A lucky shift!

When you were on your break at work, you were browsing social media when you saw an ad campaign against sexual harassment. Intrigued, you clicked on the link and a video appeared. You were watching the video carefully when your break sounded at the end, you were going to pause the video, but a voice in your phone stopped you. You started to focus more on this one, because the voice seemed very very, very familiar. Yet, even if you were trying hard to find out who that voice belonged to, you had to go back to work. When you went back forward, you could not forget the video. It was at this moment that an idea appeared to you. Since he didn’t have a client, you could take the chance to watch the video to find out who owned that voice. On the other hand, you knew who if your boss found you with your cell phone on your work hours could get you fired immediately.

You then took your cell phone and listened to the rest of the video. You were listening to a gentleman explain that he had filed a sexual harassment complaint. He explained his version of the facts and explained that he was getting sucked up in a mean office politics that only aggravated predator behavior. He had read his complaint to the police: “I have heard a lot about sexual harassment and it’s a subject that we need to talk about more often. One of my closest friends have live a situation that we qualified has sexual harassment. When she first meet this guy, I found it cute all of their flirtation, but after a certain time I found it weird that my friend wasn’t flirting anymore. I didn’t do anything because I didn’t have any dread about him. Well, I was really wrong because the guy that was flirting because the perpetrators of a misconduct on my friend. When I first discover it, I was angry at myself because I didn’t do anything and now that I think about it the signal that my friend was recipient of sexual harassment.” He went on to say that it was not to his friend that it had happened, but rather to him and that he had been too ashamed not to have been able to defend himself. He explained then that the pressure was so great as well as the shame that he had decided to change his family name to erase this harsh past. That's when you realized who was behind that voice...

You decide to take your phone off at the end of your shift. And that's what you did. The problem was that when you were walking home, somebody ran into you and you dropped your cellphone in the sewer. So, you couldn't find who was speaking in the video and you didn't have any cellphone now.

By the time you recognized the guidance counselor, everything had become clear. Guilt takes hold of you, when you remember all the rumors you had believed, all the dreadful things you had said about this man when you hardly knew him. This man had gone through something horrible and all you wanted to do was find him wrong. It was then that you made a decision that changed the course of your life. The next day, when you arrived at the school, you hurried to see if the counsellor was in his office. When you saw that he was present, you knocked to inform him of your presence. He then looked at you and asked if he could help you and that’s when you told him that you were going to become a specialized educator for people who had experienced sexual violence and that it was thanks to him that you could make your choice and you thanked him for it greatly.
