Cassandra's life choices.

High school.

It is finally this time of the year. This choice makes me really anxious. It will define my future. How could we seriously know at 16 years old what we want to do for the rest of our life? But as every person of my age I have to decide about what I want to do after High school.

Choice 1 : Go to Cegep.

Choice 2 : Go traveling.

Go to Cegep.

I decided that I will go to cegep, I could travel later. So, now, in which program should I go. There is a dance program at Montmorency that really interests me. Just to imagine going to school to perform my passion is extraordinary but it is a pre-university program and I wouldn't have the choice to go to university after my two years of study. Instead, I could choose the specialized education technique. Yes, it is one year more but I could either go to university after or directly start working.

Choice 1 : Dance program

Choice 2 : Specialized education technique.

Go traveling.

I am so happy. My parents just accept to let me travel and take a year of. My father even proposes me to go work at his office. I would have an OJT and would work six day a week. The wage is way more my job could ever give me but do I really want to invest myself at this point?

Choice 1 : Work as a secretary for my father.

Choice 2 : Keep my actual job.

Dance program.

Here we are again! Like two years ago, I have to make a determining decision about school. Should I go to university and if yes in which program? My two first years of college were just amazing. I met so much beautiful people, I dance like never before and as an artist I accomplish myself more in 2 years than 8. I learn so much about contemporary style and about myself but would I want to take this uncertain path of career? I could apply in so many programs with straight A's.

Choice 1 : Dance.

Choice 2 : Go to university in education.

Specialized education technique.

Seriously, I am so happy to have chosen this path. I always want to learn more and more and always push myself further in this domain. Helping people with ADHD, anxiety, family problem, eating disorder, substance addiction or just be there when someone needs you, it is an indescribable feeling. The technique finish shortly, and for another time I have to make a decisive choice.

Choice 1 : Work in a school.

Choice 2 : Go to university in education.

Choice 3 : University in psychoeducation.

Work as a secretary.

Seriously I don’t know why I left my other job, I miss it so much. Of course, I am doing more money and it is some great experience to add to my CV but the job is so boring! And… that’s not all. For three weeks, there is a man who always flirts with me on the job! My friends say it is sexual harassment because he is way older than me and that I told him several times I wasn’t interest, but he doesn’t stop... However, with all the money I put aside I could start traveling soon.

Choice 1 : Volunteering abroad.

Choice 2 : Bali, here we go!

Keep my actual job.

I've never thought having a year without school could be so fun! With my part-time job I can party every weekend, I go to the gym, I see my friends every day. I am living my best life. There’s only one thing, I didn’t save enough money to travel as I wanted to do first and my sabbatical coming to an end sooner than I expected… I won’t have the choice to return school without achieving my goal. My parents wouldn’t let me the chance to do to this another year. But I definitely realise I love working, so I’m going to sign in specialized education because it is only 3 years of school.

Choice 1 : Specialized education technique.

Volunteering abroad.

At first, this option scared me, but I really have to say that it was an incredible experience. Nobody realises how come in handy are the volunteers until you step into a poor country. I learned a new way to perceive life and to live it. I feel so rich even if I had to pay to work and help. Before I start people were often asking me why would I want to do this without earning a wage. On my way back to Montreal, I finally have the answer!

Choice 1 : Specialized education technique.

Choice 2 : Dance program.

University in psychoeducation.

If you had told me ten years from now that I was going to be a master student in her last year in psychoeducation, I wouldn’t have believed you. But this isn’t a dream, it is reality. I worked so hard to keep a social life, to work, to study, those past years really taught me that time management is so important when you are in university. And even better, I’ve already begin to have some job request. It is just unbelievable. Even if, it was though and even if I had wanted more often than not give up, I never did. I am so proud of myself, and ready to embrace this new beginning in my life. In the life of a psychoeducator.

Choice 1 : the end.

Work in a school.

I am lucky to have done a stage in a school in my neighborhood because they know me well. As I already have a foot in the door, they hired me unhesitatingly. Another advantage to have done one of my stages in this school, is that I already know some of the student and them either. Having a connection with your student it is priceless. Time to set new goal.

Choice 1 : Drug addiction certificate.

Choice 2 : I want a house.

Bali.

I literally fell in love with Bali and in Bali. After, six months here, I think I met the love of my life. This country is so beautiful, I love the food and the culture and I will establish myself here. I think my future baby will love this place because yes I am 2 months pregnant!

Choice 1 : the end.

Teaching in elementary school.

I never ever think having 20 children at my charge would be so difficult but so fun. Having the chance to teach them their basis for their future it is an honor. They are full of life, and even if I am the teacher I am learning from them every day! They make me want to have a child so much but in the other hand I am so young and I don’t have a boyfriend.

Choice 1 : I want a child.

Choice 2 : I want a house.

Dance.

I know I wouldn’t be able to dance for my entire life. I know that I don’t earn a regular or premium wage. But dancing as a job is invaluable. There are not a lot of people who can wake up in the morning and say they are doing their passion. I will dance as long as my body allows me to do it.

Choice 1 : the end.

Go to university in education.

With my DEC in dance certificate I was able to make demand to study in education in university.

Choice 1 : Teaching in elementary school.

Choice 2 : teaching in highschool as a french teacher.

Marry a rich old man.

Well, this would be very fun but seriously I do not think it is what I want for my future. Lets come back and be more serious.

Choice 1 : High school.

Teaching in High school as a French teacher.

I have been hired by a school in my neighbourhood, I can go to my school with my bicycle and I save so much money on gas this way! Teaching was my passion since I was young, but I never thought I would be able to finish University. I have two months of vacation in the summer, I have a pension fund which is so important, and I help teenagers every day to build their future. I am blessed to be a teacher and not to have a dead-end job!

Choice 1 : I want a house.

Choice 2 : I want a child.

I want a child.

After so many years of waiting and hard work, I have finally adopted my first child. A four year-old-boy who where in a dysfunctional family. I am privileged to give this little boy a house and love and a decent education. No one should live the way he was and I take my mom role very seriously. A new beginning for him and I and I embrace it with al of my soul.

Choice 1 : the end.

I want a house.

And this morning I signed for my first house! I am young to have a house but I made my economy in consequences, I invest in my future for my retirement. Having a house now means I could finish paying my house early to have more money later.

Choice 1 : the end.

Drug addiction certificate.

And I decided to continue and push further my study. I applied to have a certificate in drug addiction. I am so interest in this subject because even I used to take drugs when I was younger and I understand how difficult it can be to stop. From cocaine to weed to even ecstasy or heroin, having an addiction lead to so many problems that I want to help people to solve. It will also give me a certification in my CV which is always positive! After those study, I’ll apply to work in youth center and will finally stop school.
