The choices of a student in Social Science.

It all started like this.

I am finishing my DEC in international study this semester at Ahuntsic College and I have to choose what program is the best for me to continue my studies. The classes that I like the most in my program are Anthropology and Sociology because I am really interested in inequalities in modern societies and also by the ways the society affect a person.

Choice 1 : Anthropology at University of Montreal.

Choice 2 : Sociology at University of Montreal.

Ahuntsic College

Anthropology at University of Montreal.

Finally, I decided to pursue my studies in anthropology, but it took me a lot of time to choose my courses and now there are many of them that I don't really like because all the others were full. Today is my second class of methodology and I really hate this course. I am hesitating a lot between going to school or staying in bed even if this class will come in handy for my future.

Choice 1 : I go to my methodology class.

Choice 2 : I stay in bed all day.

bed

Sociology at University of Montreal.

Today, I have a class about Durkheim which is one of the sociologists that I like the most, but I also have a very important exam tomorrow for which one I seriously have to study. Even though I would like to study and to go in my class today it is impossible to do both because I won't have time.

Choice 1 : I stay home to study for my exam.

Choice 2 : I am going to my class.

Durkheim

I stay in bed all day.

Finally, I decided to stay in bed and to relax instead of going to my class. The only problem is that I don't have any friend in this class yet and so, I don't know if there is anything to do for next week. This time, I have to choose between asking someone in this course if we have to do something for next week, or just hope that there really is nothing and don't do anything.

Choice 1 : Hoping that there is nothing for next week.

Choice 2 : Ask someone in my class.

I go to my methodology class.

Even if I didn't want to, I went to my methodology class because the drawback of missing the class could have put me in some trouble. In this class we discussed the first task we would have to do which is in teams of two people. My partner and I decided that we should meet to do the task and are hesitating between starting the task tomorrow or to do it the day before the due date.

Choice 1 : We will do it tomorrow.

Choice 2 : We are going to do it the day before the class.

I study for my exam.

Now that I am studying, I realize that there are a lot more things to know than what I expected. I can stop my study here and go to sleep right now or continue to study to keep my straight-A student reputation. If I go to bed, I know that I will still get a good grade, but not as good as if I had study all night.

Choice 1 : Go to bed.

Choice 2 : Continue to study.

I am going to my class.

Now that I am in my class, I can't get off of my mind the idea that I will fail the exam. I am not able to concentrate on what the teacher is saying, and I am thinking about leaving the class to go back home and study.

Choice 1 : I study for my exam.

Choice 2 : It all started like this.

Hoping that there is nothing for next week.

Finally, I came to my class the week after and there was a task to do for the class. It was so maddening to me that there was an evaluation the third week of school that I decided to stop going to this class for the rest of the semester.

Ask someone in my class.

After asking someone if there really is something to do for next week, I got my answer and there really is an evaluation. This evaluation is in teams of two and the person I asked was looking for a partner, and so we teamed up. Now, we have to do the time management for this task, and we don't know if we prefer to do it tomorrow or the day before the class.

Choice 1 : We will do it tomorrow.

Choice 2 : We are going to do it the day before the class.

We will do it tomorrow.

Finally, it was a good idea because we realized that there was a lot of questions that we had to ask our teacher. It let us the time to complete it correctly, and we got an excellent grade.

Choice 1 : It all started like this.

We are going to do it the day before the class.

We finally met the day before the class to do the evaluation. It was a very complicated one about the bias in occidental societies, and we didn't finish it because of the lack of time we had. When we gave it to our teacher, we knew that we were in some trouble for the rest of this semester because we won't have the choice to do excellent work from now on.

Go to bed.

Finally, I went to bed and I woke up the next morning just in time. I went to my exam and I thought that I did great. The week after, I received my grade, and my teacher told me that it was actually perfect. He even encouraged me to do an internship for an organization which is working with visible minorities because he thinks it is a very good way to develop my mind.

Choice 1 : Follow his advice and do an internship.

Choice 2 : I won't do an internship.

Continue to study.

During my study, I was very tired and I slept against my will. I woke up the next morning and I had to run at school to come in time for my exam. I did pretty good, but I was too stressed and I missed the part about the place of art and religious beliefs in modern societies for Karl Marx. At the end of the day, I asked myself if I really chose the best program for me. If I can't motivate myself to do my task in time, maybe it is because I don't really love my program, and so I should change.

Choice 1 : Change program to Anthropology.

Choice 2 : Continue in Sociology.

Follow his advice and do an internship.

Finally, I decided to work as an intern for the organization that my teacher talked about, and In the end it was a very fun and rewarding experience. I learned the ropes for the job in the organization and when I finished my studies, I decided to continue to work in this same organization because we were dealing with migratory process in Quebec, which is a subject I always liked.

I won't do an internship.

Since I didn't choose to do the internship, I just continued my life normally and realized that I got really lucky for my exam. To this day, I have never gotten a grade which was similar to the one I got before. I failed everything because I had no motivation, and here I am working for some organization I have no interest in because I dropped out of school.

Change program to Anthropology.

After switching my program, I realized that Anthropology wasn't either a good choice for me, but I continued in this field of study because I didn't want to lose any more time for my future. In the end, I become an anthropologist, but I am not happy with my job.

Continue in Sociology.

I did my master and now I am a Sociology teacher at Ahuntsic College. I chose to work at my old college because when I was there, there was a pandemic during my last semester and because of that I always hated the way I left the college, so I returned.

I stay in class.

Now that I decided to stay in class, I have to find a way to concentrate on what my teacher is teaching. I have thought that I could close my eyes and try to focus only on what my teacher is saying or I could try to always participate to make sure I am listening.

Choice 1 : I close my eyes to focus.

Choice 2 : I participate actively to the class.

I close my eyes to focus.

I closed my eyes and successfully listened to my teacher, the problem is that it was very boring. I fell asleep five minutes later and got ejected from the class right after because there was nothing that my teacher hated more than the people which are sleeping during his class.

I participate actively to the class.

I decided to raise my hand each time I had the chance to. After a couple of intervention I made, my teacher believed that I was joking because everything I said had nothing to do with the subject of this class, and so I started crying in front of everyone.
