The beginning of my story.

Hi, my name is Khalil Naji. I'm a Lebanese Canadian studying in architecture at Montmorency College. In my free time, I try to master my photography skills in order to turn my side passion into a real money maker. My plans for the future are to get my DEC diploma, get my B.A and my master in architecture at UdeM to eventually become an architect, and continue practicing photography so in the future, I can hopefully do both, photography and architecture.

After graduating from Montmorency College, I have been accepted in University of Montreal in Architecture. I worked really hard to higher my grades and finally my efforts paid off. Now that my college years are behind me, it's the start of something new. In this period, I had so many changes in my life and I had to adapt to the changes.

I always dreamed to get to university and consider myself an adult student. I finally had the opportunity to prove to me family that I'm able to succeed. That's why I put all my focus on studying in order to get high grades.

As soon as I entered in University of Montreal, I got to know a girl in my architecture class called Hind. This girl was really cute and attractive. I felt in love with this girl. It was at this moment, I knew my grades will downgrade. I was meeting her every single day. I had no more time to study.

Choice 1 : Heartbreak.

Became an Architect.

After years of struggling, hard working, sacrifices, and pain, I finally passed my final exam and got my master degree in architecture. It really wasn't an easy, but it was worth it. My dream became true and I can finally start a new life.

Choice 2 : Traveled to Switzerland and started working in architecture there.

Failed my finals.

Every semester the difficulty of the classes became really high. My teachers were really strict and had high expectations. I had so many struggles to catch up the lessons. I tried to study as much as I could, but ended up by failing my final exams.

Choice 2 : Restarted my semester and got my architecture degree.

Started my architecture career in Vancouver.

After getting my architecture master degree, I decided start my career in Vancouver. Vancouver is a place I love since I was a kid. I found a job in a big company, with a nice salary. I was living my best life.

Traveled to Switzerland and started working in architecture there.

Right after I got my architecture master degree, I took a one-year break. I really needed some time to reset my batteries. Then, I decided to travel to Switzerland, where my cousin lives. I found a job and loved the Swiss lifestyle.

Became a photographer.

After I failed my exam last month, I decided to quit my architecture program and become a photographer. Since my father is a photographer, I started working with him. He helped me a lot to master my photography skills.

Restarted my semester and got my architecture degree.

After failing my exam, I decided to work even harder than ever to be able to pass. Nothing worth doing is ever easy. I needed to fail once in order to succeed. I finally studied well and got my master degree.

Heartbreak.

I felt in love with Hind and lived beautiful memories with her. Everything went good, until one day, she cheated on me. My heart felt apart. You don't need a pill or a gun, if you ever want to die, fall in love and you'll get killed...

Got married.

Yes, I finally found the love of my life. That girl called Hind made me feel special. After 2 years of a wonderful relationship, we decided to get married.

After my breakout with Hind, I directly went into a dark period of depression. My heart was broke and I didn't find any way to get up.

Moved on and became stronger than ever.

After that huge heartbreak, it was really difficult for me to get up. I needed my family and friends to help me get out of this story. I even consulted a psychologist. It took me 6 months to get over it, but now I'm stronger than ever.

After meeting Hind, and getting married, we decided to have kids. Hind got pregnant with twins. I finally became a father.

After getting married with Hind, we had so many problems. My feelings to her started to decrease. We decided to divorce and continue our life apart.

Searching for a work.

After getting my DEC diploma, I decided not to go to university and to search for a work. The choice was hard, but I was tired of school and wanted to make some money.

I thought that after working hard at school and getting my diploma, life's gonna be easy. I was really wrong. It was impossible for me to find a good job with a good salary. No one wanted to hire me.

Directly after getting my diploma, it was really easy for me to find a job. I applied to one of the best architecture firms in Canada, « Lemay Architects ». I did very well in my interview and got hired in that company.

Found a boring job.

After 3 years, a finally found a job in architecture. To be honest, the job was really boring, but I had no other choice. I was hopeless so I was satisfied with what I had.

Since I was struggling to find a job in architecture, I decided to change my career and to build my own photography business. It was really not easy, but being my own boss is really satisfying.

Being always late to work.

After being hired in Lemay Architectes company, I was late for work every morning. I had hard time getting up since I had no motivation to go to work.

Worked really hard to upgrade in Lemay Architects company.

After getting hired in the Lemay company, I want to upgrade in the company. That's why I worked really hard every single day. I was doing it for my personal satisfaction, not for money.

Choice 2 : Opened my own architecture business.

Got fired.

Because of my several early morning delays and my lack of motivation, my boss decided to fire me from the company. All of my efforts have been for nothing.

The change of the mindset.

After being late to work every single day, I didn't want to be fired. That's why I decided to get my life together and change my mindset. I tried to get motivation from my colleagues.

Following my efforts that I have been doing in the company, the president decided to put me as a manager in my department. I always dreamed to be a boss.

I spent 6 years in that company, where I gained a lot of experience. That's why I decided to invest and build my own company of architecture. It was a big and risky step in my life, but definitely worth it.

After years of being a professional photographer, I finally decided to open a photography studio in downtown of Montreal.

For a photographer, in order to get great shots, it is important to travel and discover new things. That's why I decided to travel to Europe and meet other great photographers.
