This is the beginning!!

Last year, I received my diploma in Special Educator at Vieux-Montreal College. It didn't take me a long time to apply at different places. A High School and a College called me and offered me a place in their vacant position. Both of them gave me an interview and asked me question about my background check and about me. Surprisingly, I got accepted by the two jobs. I didn't really care about the wage that the two jobs would give me. The thing I was caring for is to make a choice between one of them.

Choice 1 : Go to the Oka High School.

Choice 2 : Go to the André-Grasset College.

Go to the Oka High School.

I decided to move to Oka and found an apartment close to my job. It was kind a drawback for me to live away from my friends ans family, but I said to myself that the drive of work will probably block this feeling and motivated myself. At my first day, I noticed that one of my friends from high school works in the same department as me. Since it was my first day at work, I wonder if I should talk to her or not.

Choice 1 : Go talk to her.

Choice 2 : Don't go talk to her.

Go to the André-Grasset College.

I decided to stay in Montreal and stayed close to my family and my friends. Also, my new work was really close to my home, so it might be come in handy. A week after my first day, an altercation began between two students. Since I was a new Special Educator, I wasn't really familiar with the rules to follow to stop the argument. I felt like I was in a dead-end and I started to feel overwhelm and stress. So, should I intervened alone or asked for help from one of my colleagues who have experience.

Choice 1 : Step into the conflict alone.

Choice 2 : Wait and ask for help.

Go talk to her.

I presented myself to her, and she recognized me right away. We talked about our lives, our school routes and our on-the-job-training experiences. She showed me the place, introduce me to my colleagues and explained to me the invaluable rule to follow. She made that clear that undermined and saying bias to your colleagues or to your clients wasn't accepted. For the first day, it was kind rough, but like everything in life, it took time to become good. At the end of the day, she invited me to explore two places of my new town.

Choice 1 : Go to the beach.

Choice 2 : Go to the restaurant.

Don't go talk to her.

Since it was my first day at work and I was very shy, I decided to concentrate into my work, instead of introducing myself. She came to my office and said hello to me. I said hello in return and that was it. It took me a long time to build a friendship with my colleagues and it obviously affected my approach on my clients.

Step into the conflict alone.

The first thing that I did was to separate the two students and went to my office with them. Then, I listened to the views of the two students, took notes for myself and tried to not getting sucked up in the altercation. I proposed to make other meetings like that, so they could put that away from there heads. In the following weeks, the two students put aside their altercation and became friends surprisingly. All of my colleagues and even my boss congratulated me on my good work and my professionalism.

Wait and ask for help.

The first thing that came to my head was to run to one of my colleagues. I explained to him the situation about the altercation. My colleague separated them and the went in his office. After a long discussion with the two students, my colleague went to me and said that even if you are not sure if you are going to do the right thing or not, try it anyway. By trying and making errors, you will become a better speaker. He was right and after several appointments, I became the Special Educator I always dream of.

Go to the beach.

That wasn't my first time on a beach, but it was the biggest beach I ever seen. We went at night, so that nobody was there. We started talking about what happened in our day. We then talked about our lives and hobbies. In between, she explained to me the history of this beach and told me that when she has a break, she goes to the beach just to relax and make peace in her head. The discussion was very interesting.

Go to the restaurant.

She invited me to go on this chic restaurant call ''aux Anciens Canadiens''. It was beautiful and very comforting. There were a lot of choices in the menu, but she recommended me a traditional meal of this city: the meat pie. It was incredibly delicious. It was very nice of her to invite me at this restaurant. We talked, we laughed, and we had a good time.
