Confusion

What should I do next?

I am a student in Business Management at Lasalle College. Since I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering, I feel like I am getting sucked up in something I am not interested. I am not sure what to do next.

Choice 1 : Stay at Lasalle College.

Choice 2 : Careers related to Biomedical Engineering.

Business Management

Stay at Lasalle College.

The main reason I started this career was because I thought it would be helpful to have some knowledge in Business Management, so I could get a higher income when I graduate. While I keep taking new courses, I feel with lack of interest in studying and do not understand how to take advantage of this career by combining it with my Bachelor's Degree. I feel very unhappy with this decision. I do not have any money left as Lasalle College is very expensive.

Choice 1 : Work at a restaurant.

Choice 2 : Ask my parents for money and graduate from Lasalle College.

Biomadical Engineering

Careers related to Biomedical Engineering.

Now that I have made the choice to pursue a career related to Biomedical Engineering, I will have to decide which college would be the best fit for my expectations. I am overwhelmed with this decision as it is not an easy one.

Choice 1 : College de Maisonneuve

Choice 2 : College Ahuntsic.

Waitress

Work at a restaurant.

I started working at a restaurant, but I do not think this job would help me be successful in life. If a want to buy a house, working at a restaurant could undermine years of hard work. At the same time, I have to work overtime and 7 days per week to be able to save some money. After a while, I got pregnant and was not able to continue working there or it could be risky for the baby.

Choice 1 : Quit my job at the restaurant.

Choice 2 : I should have made better decisions, go back to the beginning

Financial Help

Ask my parents for money and graduate from Lasalle College.

I asked my parents for financial help, and I was able to graduate from Lasalle College. I started looking for an internship, but failed to get a job because I was overqualified due to my previous Bachelor's Degree. I got some feedback from other companies that interviewed me, and they told me it was difficult for them to offer me a compensation package because they were unsure that I would stay in the position. The problem was that I studied two different careers, which led them to think I was unsure on what my professional interests were.

Choice 1 : Wrong decision (no money, no job). Let's start from the beginning

Choose a career

Choose a career.

I have decided to go to College de Maisonneuve because there are two main careers that I think would provide me additional skills that will come in handy when I start looking for a permanent position.

Choice 1 : Nursing.

Choice 2 : Food Quality Control Procedures.

I quit

Quit my job at the restaurant.

Working as a waitress is definitely not an option for a mom-to-be. I need the extra-income but without taking any risks. I thoroughly enjoyed being pregnant but I feel professionally incomplete. I want my own income and I enjoy being independent.

Choice 1 : Go back to the beginning. This was not a good decision.

College Ahuntsic

College Ahuntsic.

There were two careers that appeared to be interesting to me, Chemistry and Biotechnology. I feel passionate about Chemistry and the premium wage is estimated in 61 207 Canadian dollars for new graduates. The problem with Chemistry, it covers most of the things I learned in Biomedical Engineering. Though, not many new things to learn. On the other hand, studying Biotechnology would be to validate my Bachelor's Degree in Quebec. To sum up, College Ahuntsic is not a good match to pursue my personal / professional goals.

Choice 1 : Change you choice to another College

Nursing

Nursing.

Nursing appeared to be a great fit for me, however, when I did further research on what I would do as a Nurse, the fact that I would have to take care of sick people filled me with dread. I would rather be in a laboratory, wearing special equipment and not being worried about people yelling at me or hastily looking at me.

Choice 1 : Choose another career.

Food Quality Control Procedures

Food Quality Control Procedures.

What a great discovery! Food Quality Control Procedures is what I was looking for. There are three reasons why I chose this program. First, Manufacturing on dairy products, vegetables, and bakery. The manufacturing covers all the food processing life cycle, including evaluating samples to determine if there are any microorganisms, bateria, or ingredients that could harm the consumers. Second, Quality Control. This domain ensures a company meets the quality control criteria and makes sure all ingredients used on products are assessed in a microbiology laboratory. In addition, as a Food Quality Analyst, I would be able to help a company to improve the quality of their products. Here is where I found a perfect match with my Bachelor's Degree and this program. In fact, as a Biomedical Engineering I have to select samples and evaluate them in a laboratory to determine the types of bacteria culture found, perform tests to evidence the level of pathogens, and perform ADN tests to identify microscopic germs. Third, Innovation. I'm a passionate professional. I love what I do, so this career will provide me with the tools I need for getting the chance to reinvent or improve a product or recipes. Also, I will be able to identify room for improvements in the production line for a product. I'm currently a student at College de Maisonneuve. I'm just 2 semesters left to get my diploma. It is definitely all that I expected. It is a great program, I have learned so much, and I am grateful that I chose this College. I would never regret all decisions I have made to be where I am right now. All happen for a reason, and I am looking forward to start working as a Food Quality Control Analyst.
