After all those efforts that I put these years, it’s finally the last semester of my technique in special education. For this last semester, I have an OJT to do in France, but I don't know if it should be better to take a sabbatical year.

I’m going to France! I’m really excited, but for my on-the-job training, I have to choice where I want to work. My planner sent me an e-mail and I can only choose between a primary school or in a youth center.

It will be really nice to work with people with learning difficulties or just to be with children. Now that I know where I will do my OJT, I have to choose between two airplanes company. Either Air Canada or Corsair which is less expensive.

The duration of the flight was like 6 hours, but at least nothing bad happened. Right now, I am in a hotel and I have to be at the school in 3 hours. I’m jet lags and I would like to take a nap. Otherwise, I will be in a bad mood.

Maybe, I shouldn’t have sleep because I didn’t hear my alarm and I wake up approximately 3 hours later. My plainer was so angry at me and at the phone, she told me that I couldn’t continue my OJT because I’m not responsible, etc.

Finally, I didn’t take a nap and in contrary of what I thought, I’m not in a bad mood or whatever. I took the train to go at the primary school, but when I arrived, the students and the teachers were outside. I’m wondering if I should join them or stay inside.

Oups, maybe I should have gone outside, because when they learned that I stayed here doing nothing, the children told me that I was boring. Now, they think that I don’t like to play outside and that I don’t want to have fun.

I did well to go play with them because now, they say that I am gentle and sweet. Now, it’s been like 10 minutes that we are playing at the tag, but I would like to propose them to play at something else. I hesitate between soccer or go to swing.

Play soccer is so much better than man on heart. We have so much fun and we are all laughing. But after like 5 minutes, I noticed that a boy was missing. They are a small group so it’s easy to see when someone is not there. I told that to another specialized educator, but she said to do nothing, that she will call someone.

This moment was so intense, every seconds I asked myself if I took the good choices to stay with the specialized educator. Finally, after like 2 minutes, he appeared with a soccer ball in his arms. He went to the gymnasium which is inside. Everything ended well.

This was the worst idea ever. While I was trying to find the students, I went in the forest close to the school. Now, I am lost and I didn’t find him.

Where should I live?

Working in a youth center will be very nice, I can’t wait to begin my OJT. Before I left the Quebec for the France, I have to book an Airbnb. I know that the establishment is in Bordeaux, so I could check for an Airbnb there, but it’s more expensive than at Cenon which is further.

The Airbnb that I chose is perfect, and I really liked it there, but it’s too far away from the youth center. Since I began to work, I arrived late 2 times out of 4.

It’s beautiful here and I’m close to everything that perfect. Today, it’s my first day and my trainee asked me in which section of the youth center I would like to work. The boys and the girls are separated and I have to choose with who I would prefer to work.

This is really great to work with the boys. It’s easier than with the girl I guest, but there nice with me. It’s been 2 weeks since I’m working here. When I arrived this morning, I saw someone who didn’t acted like usual. I heard that he could run away, so I’m wondering if I should go talk to him. Maybe he already had this discussion with another educator.

One week after I decided to not go talk to the boy, I learned this morning that he ran away last night. We don’t know where he is and if I had done something this thing wouldn’t happen….

He accepted to talk to me and as I thought, he was planing on joined a gang. It could be very useful to take appointment with him, but at the same times, I don’t know if I’m certified for that.

It’s really great to work with him, because even if I was not really prepared to work with people with drug addiction, I learn the ropes. After like 3 or 4 appointment, I thought that every time was fine, but the boy decided to leave the youth center and who knows what will happen. At least I tried to help him, but I’m really worried about him.

This is really nice to work with girls. I feel comfortable and nothing bad happened while this month. Today, the reality decided to hit me because I can hear some screams from the kitchen. When I finally arrived in the kitchen, there are two girls who are hurting each other. There is blood and I can see injuries on them. I have to do something but I don’t know what.

I took the arms of the girl who was above the other. But now, the girl get to escape, and she is trying to hurt me. She’s in rage and if I do nothing, I will get hurt.

I got overwhelmed by my emotions, so I pushed her, and she fell on the ground. I immediately got up and someone arrived at this right moment. I can see on his face that she saw what I done. I’m trying to explain myself but I’m dismissed anyway.

I decided to not push here, but luckily, I didn’t get hurt. Someone arrived and she succeeded to separate them. After this event, I’m traumatized and I don’t want to work there anymore and that’s why I decided to resign.

Now, that I decided to take a break for one year, I must know what I will do. Either I work in a nursery to win experiences and wage, or I do a volunteering abroad which it could be a great adventure.

After I long week to think about what I will do this year, I finally took my decision. I will do a volunteering abroad! I am so excited, and I can’t wait to do this travel. But, now, I have to chose what I will do to help the society. So, either I work with children to help with their homework’s which it could be great as a future special educator, or I build a well.

This been one week since I arrived in Costa Rica and that I work in a school. The people here are so gentle, I took the good decision. Now, I am helping the children with their homework, but my planner told me that I have to do something else for the rest of the trip. The students are so nice with me, I’m happy. I thought that it would be taught to teach in front of a class, but this is a fantastic experience. Today, it's been another day like others, but right now, I’m so tired. It’s the end of the day and would to go to sleep, but some children asked me if I would like to play with them at soccer.

Humm… Maybe I should have not slept last night because this morning, the students were not talking to me. They were sad that I didn't play with them. I lost the connection that I had with them.

This was so nice to play with the kids. We had so much fun and I know that I made difference in their lives. It thoroughly has worth the cost. Today, my planner told me that she organised a trip with the students at a lake. I finished my schoolbag, but there is a place for one more thing, but I don’t know which one is more important between the sun cream, my camera and something to eat.

After I long walk under the sun, we finally arrived at the lake. It was beautiful, but now, I have a big sun burn. I have difficulties when I walk and I can’t teach because it hurts too much when I go under the sun. At least I have memories of this day….

This was a good idea to bring my sun cream, before some people have a sun burn. I had a good time with the kids, and I will remember this amazing day for I long time. Be a volunteer was the best decision that I could make.

What can I do?

My purpose is to work with preschool children, so I send my curriculum vitae to work in a nursery close to my house. Tow weeks later, I am working there. This is my first week as a trainee and already something big is happening. A child just fell on the floor unconscious. The other educators are outside, so I have to decide what I should do, now.

I am so sad… Nothing else worse than that could happened. After I called the 911, I waited for them, but when they came, it was too late. The child died because I haven't done the RCR.

Ouf, finally, everything ends well. I saved the child. At least I did my course of RCR, because I don’t know what could happen otherwise. Now, my boss asked me to do overtime and create an activity for tomorrow with person age 5 to 8 years old. Its nine o’clock and I still have no idea. I would sincerely prefer to watch something on Netflix.

I was the worst idea ever to watch a TV show, because when I went at my job with no activity, my boss expelled me. It wasn’t a thoughtful decision. He said that I was too young to work and that I don’t have the sense of responsibilities. I lost my chances to work in a great place.

After I long time to thing of what I could do with the kids, I got two ideas. I could make a rain stick which it could be great for their fine motor skills, or we could create a puzzle which could helped them with the cognitive sphere.

When I arrived at my work, I told my idea to the children, and they were excited. They were intense today and maybe I should have done this activity, because there were not listening to me. After, we made, or we tried to make, the brain sticks, the class was in a big mess. Right now, I have to pick up this mess, but I don’t want to be late for my appointment which is in 20 minutes.

At least I didn't go to my appointment because I think that I could have been dismissed. When I went to work today, my boss was really proud of me because my coworkers told him that I did a great job with the children and that my idea was really great. I’m proud of myself and I will pass great time working there.
