The end of high school.

We are approaching the end of high school, and one important choice has to be made. I need to decide in what program and field I want to study. Should I go in architecture program or financial advising program?

Choice 1 : Become an Architect.

Choice 2 : Become a financial Advisor.

I decide to explore the architecture path. Now, I have to chose where I want to study. I am considering two colleges. Vanier College and Cegep Montmorency. Vanier is farther from home, but it is an English college, and it could help get a good job in the future. For Cegep Montmorency, is closer to home, and I already feel more comfortable in French environment. The choice is not easy.

Choice 1 : Vanier college.

Choice 2 : Cegep Montmorency.

Become a financial Advisor.

I decide that financial advising maybe can be the best choice for me. I like the idea of working with people and helping them understand important financial decisions. This career seems interesting because it combines communication, business and problem solving. There is only one place I really want to study. Cegep Montmorency is having the best financial advising program in quebec.

Vanier college architecture program.

Vanier seems like a good challenge, and I believe it will help me grow. However, things do not go as planned. The English classes are much more difficult than I expected. I have trouble to understand the teachers, the instructions and some assignments. I begin to ask myself if I made the wrong decision. Maybe, I should make a change.

Choice 1 : Changing program but staying at vanier.

Choice 2 : Changing cegep but staying in the same program.

Montmorency cegep architecture program.

I choose the architecture program at Cegep Montmorency because it feels safer and more comfortable. The college is closer to home, and the language is easier for me. But after a few weeks, I realize that the program is not what I expected. The work is very technical, and I do not feel passionate about it. Maybe, I chose this program for the wrong reasons.

Changing program but staying at vanier.

I decide to stay at Vanier, but I change my program to financial advising. This decision is stressful at first because I am starting over. However, after a few weeks, I feel much better. I enjoy learning about money, clients, insurance and financial decisions. I realize that changing direction was not a failure. It was a smart decision.

I decide to change cegep but stay in the architecture program. I hope that a new environment will solve my problems. Unfortunately, things do not really get better. Even if the college feels more comfortable, the program still does not feel right for me.

I choose the financial advising program at Cegep Montmorency, and things start going very well. I enjoy my classes because they are connected to real life. I learn about credit, insurance, investments and budgeting. I also make new friends and build good relationships with my teachers. Now that I know this is the field I want, I need to take professional steps. I want to gain experience and put a foot in the door. Where should I start working?

I get a job at Caisse Desjardins, and I quickly realize that this is a great opportunity. I work in a professional environment where I can learn from experienced people. I see how they communicate with clients, explain financial products, and help them make decisions about their money. This path shows me that financial advising could truly become my career. The End.

I decide to work in an insurance firm because I want to gain experience in the financial product world. After some time, I notice that the job is more stressful than I expected. There is a lot of pressure and sometimes the work does not feel as connected to my goals. Even if this job seems good, I'm feeling not at my place.
