The end of high school.

It was the end of high school, I could not decide what to do. Should I become a dietitian or a dental hygienist? Should I go to the closest college to do a program that does not entirely interest me or a further college to do something I love.

Choice 1 : Become a dietitian.

Choice 2 : Become a dental hygienist.

Become a dietitian.

I have decided to become a dietitian at Montmorency College where I have plenty of friends. I always meet them during my breaks and sometimes even skip classes to hang with them. I am not able to concentrate on my studies since I party with my friends every night after school. I don’t necessarily love the program I am in, I fear that I may not want to continue studying.

Choice 1 : Quit my studies

Choice 2 : Quit partying and focus more on my studies.

Become a dental hygienist.

I have chosen to become a dental hygienist at Maisonneuve College. I don’t necessarily have a lot of friends, but I do have a close friend in the same program as me. We often hangout to learn the ropes together. I try to concentrate on my studies because I am doing something I love. But my family doesn’t want me to continue going to Maisonneuve College since there are a lot of bad influences.

Choice 1 : Continue studying at Maisonneuve College.

Choice 2 : Listen to my family and change colleges.

Quit my studies.

I have decided to quit my studies and enjoy my youth with my friends. I have sold my textbooks to buy drugs. I got sucked up in these bad habits. Eventually, my friends stopped doing drugs, but I became addicted. I watch my friends build a life while I struggle with mine.

Choice 1 : Fight my addiction and try to look for a part-time job.

Choice 2 : Become a drug dealer.

Quit partying and focus more on my studies.

I have realized that my future is more important than a few parties. Instead of going to party after school, I now go to the library and study. It is very difficult to avoid my friends, but I am forced to. I eventually see my grades coming up, and I’m almost at the point of graduating.

Choice 1 : Graduate from Montmorency College.

Continue studying at Maisonneuve College.

I have decided to trust myself and stay at Maisonneuve College to continue doing what I am passionate about. I know there are bad influences, but I stay reserved and focused on my goal. I have made lots of good friends in my program. We will graduate all together in a couple of months and start our dream jobs.I’m trying to prove to my family that I am responsible enough to handle the environment.

Listen to my family and change colleges.

I am overwhelmed. I have decided to listen to my family’s opinion and change colleges. I applied to John-Abbott College since it is the only college apart Maisonneuve that has the dental hygiene program. But once I saw the results I saw that I wasn’t admitted because the program was full.

Choice 1 : Apply to Ahunstic College since it’s my last option.

Fight my addiction and try to look for a part-time job.

I realized that I hit rock bottom, and I couldn't continue living this way. I decided to enter a rehabilitation program to fight my addiction and regain control of my life. After a couple of months of my hard work, I became clean and began looking for a part-time job to start over the right away. I couldn't make a living with a retail job, and then I had the thought of going back to school.

Choice 1 : Continue working on a part-time job.

Choice 2 : Give a second chance to college.

Become a drug dealer.

I didn't make the right choices since the beginning, and I went too far to go back. Instead of seeking help I leaned further into the dark path I was on. I started selling drugs to make a living and make quick money. For some time, I felt wealthy, and, like I was more powerful than everyone. I realized, too late, that this lifestyle only ends in two ways. Behind bars or worse.

Choice 1 : End up getting caught.

Choice 2 : Become a professional in this field.

Graduate from Montmorency College.

All those long nights in the library, finally paid off. I walked across the Montmorency College stage to receive my diploma as a dietitian. My friends that I once partied with were all present to cheer for me. I am now soon going to start my career as a dietitian, helping others the importance of having a healthy life.

Graduate from Maisonneuve College.

Continuing my studies at Maisonneuve was on of my best decision. I learned to balance my social and school life while making my parents trust me and being proud of me for what I had accomplished. My family who once wanted me to change colleges are now cheering for me among the crowd. Now as a licensed dental hygienist, I have the job of my dreams and a bright future ahead.

Apply to Ahunstic College since it’s my last option.

After lots of hesitation, I finally applied to Ahunstic College, going to the worst College in all of Montreal was not easy for me. I will always blame my parents for making me waste my time, and for driving me away from my dreams. I am now in a program that does not interest me, and I would have to reapply next year in dental hygiene wasting a year of my life.

I decided to stick with my part-time job for a while to try to stand up on my feet all by myself. It feels good to earn enough money to cover my utilities, but I feel like it is not enough for me. My boss appreciates my hard work, and even proposed to me the post of manager in a bigger store.

Give a second chance to college.

After working hard on my mental health, I decided to give a second chance to college. I applied to a program that truly interests me, and this time, I am ready to give it my all this time. I walked into campus, feeling like a new person I didn't have the same level of confidence as before, since I'm going be one of the oldest in my classes, but I am finally studying for my future and the feeling of accomplishment is better than any party.

End up getting caught.

This ephemeral life route me back to reality. Good night deal went wrong instead of meeting with my client I met with an undercover police. I was arrested on the spot. Plead guilty to drug trafficking, and was going to face 11 years in prison, all because of my wrong choices. My so called friends did not even look back at me to offer help. My family did not want to come visit me in prison. I was left alone with my thoughts, thinking of how I wasted my potential for temporary power.

Become a professional in this field.

After years of dedication, working under my boss, I took his position when he died in a tragic confrontation with our rivals, and I was chosen to step into his shoes. I moved to Mexico to take over his work. Now I stand as a powerful Mafia. The person I once used to be, was long gone, replaced by someone cold and commanding. I am proud of what I have accomplished to be in this position.

I have finally accomplished my career, I work as an assistant of a nutritionist. I now live alone, I have my own bills and long work weeks. I look back smiling at that 17-year-old I used to be, that couldn't decide which college to go to because I think I chose the right path. Every choice, even the bad ones, gave me the lessons I needed to become the person I am today.

I have finally started to work in a clinic as a dental hygienist with some of my best friends from college who used to be in the same classes as me. I earn a great salary and enjoy a balanced schedule, which makes me truly love my job. My successful lifestyle allows me to go on vacation twice a month, building a future and memories I can be proud of. I got married right after graduation, and share a lovely life with my partner, who is my cities top dentist. Together, we have built an amazing life that the seventeen-year-old me would have been proud of. We spend our weekdays improving the oral health of our community ensuring that every person leaves their chair feeling more confident about there smile because of us.
