Middle school decision.

I was very excited to get to middle school, my mom asked me if I wanted to go to a private school or a public school. I have been biased about the private school, but I am still not sure. Which should I choose, private school or public school?

The private school.

Yes! I just got accepted to the Triolet's private school. I am so excited, I always wanted to be part of this school when I grew up. To spend all the energy I had, I decided to choose between two sports. Should I try to play Hockey or should I try to play Basketball?

I just arrived in my public school, it doesn't look too bad, but I can see some changes that could be made. I visited the gym and that made me want to spend some energy on a sport. I love Hockey and Basketball. Which sport should I try?

Beginning of the Hockey career.

I've been watching hockey for a long time, and now I started to play it. I don't really know if I were better as a goalie or a player. Both roles come with big responsibilities. What should I do, be a player or be a goaltender?

Basketball tryouts.

I just arrived at the court and my coach started to teach me some moves and play 5 on 5 against the other players trying to attend the team. I was physical maybe way too physical. My coach came at me and talked to me. He said I didn't make the cut. As a young kid, I started crying after he abolished my dreams of being a pro Basketball player.

My career as a Hockey player.

I felt like being a player meant a lot to me, and I worked well-under some overwhelming situations. The thing is, I have to know on which end I would be better, offense or defense. Should I be a Center or a Defenseman.

Poor goal tending.

As I was playing for my team, my coach started me as the game goaltender. During the game, I stopped 7 pucks on 15. We lost the game 8 to 2 for them. My coach talked to me after the game and blame the entire game on me and that I was a shame to his team. After that talk, I never wanted to goal a single game as a goalie.

I always wanted to be a center. I love Sidney Crosby, and he's my favorite player in the NHL. I feel like I have a lot of leadership that can bring us far. That's when my coach asked me if I wanted to be the team captain, should I accept the offer or decline the offer.

Life as a defenseman.

Being on defense comes with a lot of responsibilities, I had to protect at all cost my goaltender's net. I felt playing that role was invaluable to me since my favorite player, Shea Weber, plays that role in the NHL. My coach approached me and said I had a lot of dedication. He then asked me if I wanted to be the team captain. Should I accept the offer or decline it?

The starting of the capital C.

It felt a bit different having a capital C on my jersey. I felt like I was becoming really handy to the team. My coach then asked if I wanted to play with either Jay or James. Who should I pick?

The problem of having no team role.

I decided to decline the offer. The more I played without the letter the more I realized that I wasn't really the star of the team. I was just like a step-aside for this team. I felt like the point of playing was almost useless. The scouts were watching the big players in my team. The ones with leadership and leadership came with a letter on the jersey. I knew the scout didn't pay attention to me, so I decided to just quit.

Our awful chemistry.

I decided to play with Jay because I thought he was better than James. During a play, me and Jay were on a 2 on 1 against a player and his goalie. Instead of passing me the puck where I had an open net, Jay decided to dangle around the player and the player easily picked up the puck. When we arrived at the bench, the coach put Jay aside and told me to play with James. His lack of game sense got him there, he was too egotistical.

Maybe a little too nice.

During a play where me and James were on the ice. We were stuck in our defensive zone. To get out of the zone, James tried to pass me the puck, but due to the lack of power on his pass. That created a turnover where the other team had one purpose, to score. How should I feel about James's turnover?

Bad leadership, no more games.

After that play, I couldn't hold my anger. Even though it was a little turnover, I still got extremely pissed at James. I ended up telling him he was a terrible player and that hurt him inside. The coach heard us arguing. He asked why we were arguing. James explained the entire thing. The coach looked at me, and said "That C, you don't deserve it. You are benched for the next three games. This is not how I taught you guys how to deal with mistakes." I ended up losing the entire trust of my coach and my teammates.

Sometimes compassion brings to victory.

I told James it was cool. During a power play, James passed me the puck. James and I were both on a breakout and on the way for a breakaway. Both alone in front of the goalie, we had the opportunity to score the game winning goal. I had the choice to either shoot the puck or pass it to James. What should I do?

What a goal.

After a hesitation, I looked directly in the goalie's eyes, and took a great shot on his right bar. It ended up hitting the bar and going in. I was pumped up, I just scored the game winning goal in overtime. James did look at me with a little sadness because I did not pass, but he is thoughtful and knew that it was the right play. Then, a suited man walked up to me. It was a scout. He said that he loved the way I played and two teams wanted to pay a premium wage for me to play for them. It was either the Sherbrooke Phoenix or The Drummondville Voltigeurs. Which team should I pick?

Team play into a goal.

We scored! James and I scored. The place was buzzing. Overtime game winning goal. We all celebrated in the changing room, has I walked out to pick up some pizza for us, a suited man was waiting outside for me. He approached, and said "I am a scout, and I really loved how you played tonight. Two teams are ready to spend big money on you. We got the Drummondville Voltigeurs and The Sherbrooke Phoenix. I will give you my number and call me once you decide". I was still in shocked. I really didn't know which team to pick. Should I play for Drummondville or for Sherbrooke?

Harder than I thought.

Playing for a dream team in the QMJHL (Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League), it was way harder than I thought. The more I played the more I felt like I would never reach the big stage, the NHL. I did earn some money that will help with my pension. I arrived at a stage where I wonder if I should retire or wait for the moment I get drafted.

The dream stage or is it?

Daniel Brière, an NHL General Manager for the Hockey team, the Philadelphia Flyers, has contacted me this morning and asked if I wanted to try out for the team. I was shocked. I texted back "For sure, it's been a dream to play for the big league. A try out is always like a test drive of your own potential. We never know how it can go. I had to decide, because I had a wife and kids at that time. Should I tryout or retire and stay with my family?

A dream that drowned.

I did not make the team, I was washed. I was unsuccessful during the try out. My wife reassured me and said I was a great husband, and the kids needed me. I did my time with hockey, but now it's time to hang the jersey. I walked out of the arena, looked back and released a sigh. It is over, it was time to retire.

A long journey that arrived at the end.

After my career, I ended my career at 29 years old. I managed to earn around $750000 over 8 years has a QMJHL player. Now that retired, I took the initiative to bring my kids every year at the Center Bell in Montreal to watch them play.
