End of my Cinema Program.

I finally finished my CEGEP program. I put a lot of work, but it was worth it, cause now the doors of university are open for me. But, I am questioning if I should take a sabbatical year to make a trip or go in university.

Choice 1 : Sabbatical Year.

Sabbatical Year.

I went alone into a trip to Thailand for 5 months. It's a place that I always wanted to go because it's a whole different culture than in Canada. The food is different, their religion is different and their manner are also different. I also love their beautiful tropical beach. Like the Maya Bay beach. I also tried their Pad Thai, it's far better than the Thai Express Pad Thai, made here in Canada. I enjoyed every day of my trip! But, now I have to go in university.

University.

I have two principals choices of program I could choose for my university program. I was thinking of going into a cinema baccalaureate or to do a sociology baccalaureate. I was highly hesitating between the two because I was interested in both. My mother told me to think about my future career. But she wasn't surprised when I told her that I didn't know what to do for future career.

Choice 1 : Cinema Baccalaureate.

Choice 2 : Sociology Baccalaureate.

I was doing my first year, I had 5 courses in sociology. Even if I liked the topic, it was maddening. I know it's contradictory, but I always had to study and to concentrate, I didn't have free times. Universities are like this, so I told myself that it's okay. But, even if I study a lot, trying to get a better time management and didn't put aside my homework, I didn't get straight A's. I was failing. My love for sociology was superficial because I hated it when I had to concentrate on it for hours. I was simply overwhelmed. I chose to go back and to do cinema baccalaureate. But, now as I think the past, these years weren't useless, because now I have a better understand of the society problems.

When I enter this program, I was feeling in my place and I enjoyed it more than my other program. For sure, I didn't get perfect grade, but I got good grades, and I liked studying my subject. I had different course in my program. Like the history of cinema, the language of cinema, the author of cinema and cinema as an art. The one I preferred was the author of cinema. In this course we learned about the different important directors in cinema. For example, there is Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman or Federico Fellini. At the end of my baccalaureate, I had an option to do an internship, this will take more time of my studying. Should I do it or just continue my program with no internship?

I was an intern for 2 months. I was a boom operator. So, I had to record the sound with a mic attached to a pole. I learned the ropes at school. But, I got some on-the-job-training that helped me a lot. I felt come in handy on the filming set, because without my job, there are no sounds in the movie. I was paid a little, but not as much as a boom operator. When I finished the internship, I was happy because it gave me a foot in the door in the industry.

I finished my university. But I have to find a job. Should I make my own project or apply into the industry.

I tried to do my own short-film, in the goal of getting a fulfillment feeling. Some of my cinema colleagues accepted to help me. They also had contacts that helped me. For the actors, I contacted an agency. The short-film was about a girl that was always between two choices and to choose the right one. We filmed for 1 month. During the film-making process, we had a lot of troubles. For example, the actors were sick one time, some equipment break, some employees crash out on the set. We also filmed in hot temperature environment and the actors were often starving. I edited it for 3 months. I finally finished and submitted the short-film in cinema festival and on cinema website. But, the reception weren't good. They all criticize the short-film. They told it lacked emotions and proficiency. All of the efforts were useless and not worthwhile.

This time I got luck, because a director of photography for a movie got really sick and had to take a leave of absence of his work. So, I saw the vacant position job opportunity and applied. I met the director, the producer and the HR of the film. The HR did a background check on me and was satisfied. They also told me that there is a good compensation package for this job. I waited for their call for two weeks, before I realized they took someone else. I guess I weren't qualified enough for the job. Two months later, I learned that the director was a big narcissism guy and yell on everybody on the filming set! What should I do next? I also had a part-time job at McDonald to gain some money. But, I was seeing sexual harassment. Should I tell my boss or no?

I told my boss about the employee that misconducts to a girl employee. He always did flirtation signs in front of her, but she didn't it. My boss warned the perpetrator to stop, or he will fire him. The employee continued. So, my boss fired him. The perpetrator was a 42-year-old man who had no wife and no family. The victim was a young woman of 18 years old. Her husband was in prison. When he went out, one year later, he got out of the prison punch the guy that did sexual harassment. I also thought of changing my job and to become a cinema teacher. Should I take a baccalaureate to become a cinema teacher or pursue a cinema career?

Choice 1 : To be a Cinema Teacher.

Don't Tell my Boss.

I didn't get enough courage, the perpetrator continued, and I got bad conscience all my life of not reported it. I also thought of changing my job and to become a cinema teacher. Should I take a baccalaureate to become a cinema teacher or pursue a cinema career.

With a lot of patience and work, I eventually got a director job for a movie at 35 years old. When I finished this director job, the critics were good. I was happy. Should I make another movie or doing a trip to Nunavut to relax?

Make Another Movie.

I did another movie, though it was a flop. The critics weren't good. I was sad because I thought I was on a good path, from my previous good movie. Now, it was difficult to be a director again. So, I applied for a prop maker job for a movie. I was in charge of finding and designing all the props that the actors interact with. I was proud of my work. I even liked it, and it was less stressful than the director job. Should I continue in this path or take a trip to Nunavut to relax?

Trip to Nunavut.

I took a year off, I went on a trip to Nunavut, where I relaxed my brain. This trip helped me to get some fresh new creative ideas for the next movies, as a director. After, this year I wrote a script in 1 week and got funding rapidly. The movie came one year later, and it was big success. A commercial one, but also a critics one. I went to multiple festivals. I was happy. Should I make another movie or enjoy my life of star?

Prop Maker.

I continued to be a prop maker. As a prop maker artist, I didn't get the glory of a director. But, I liked my job and did several movies as a prop maker. I even got a wife and kids. I played a lot with them in my free time. I eventually took my retirement at 61 years old and bought a house near a river in countryside. We had one dog and beautiful sunset each evening on the river. One day, a genie came to me and asked me if I wanted to do my life again from the moment I was 18 years old. I said to him that I was happy with the choices I made and that I felt that I had a good life.

New Movie.

As I was a well-reputed director, I got easily funding from production to make my movies. I was always focusing on my work, I had the drive of work. Each movie was a big hit, I finally got the success with money, glory and big house. I also had a wife and kids. But, as I am now older in my retirement, I realize that I never really took time with my wife and kids, I didn't educate them or play with them, I was always working. One day, a genie came to me and asked me if I wanted to do my life again from the moment I was 18 years old. I said yes because I felt bad about my family.

Enjoy Life of Star.

I went to multiple parties. I drank a lot and encountered multiple women. I was living on the party. I even bought two yachts for me. The Time Magasine named me the most successful man of the early 21st century. I didn't have kids and didn't marry. But as the years went, my success was slowly reducing. And I could do nothing about it. I liked my success. So, now as I am 67 years old, I don't have the energy to make movies and the public's opinion of me is contemptible. Because of these reasons, I now feel lonely, and I have big regrets about my past life of celebrity debauchery. One day, a genie came to me and asked me if I wanted to do my life again from the moment I was 18 years old. I said to him that I didn't like my past actions, but doing my life again with different choices would not learn me to like with passion the life I had with all the problems. To be a Cinema Teacher.

I did my baccalaureate to become a teacher. I had good knowledge about cinema. But, now I hesitate between teaching in university or CEGEP.

I had a lot of students and big works to correct. I didn't like the correction. So, after one year, should I teach to CEGEP or going to Nunavut to relax my brain.

I liked the human connection with the students. I also like teaching in front of the class with passion about cinema. After, 10 years of teaching, I had a contract to be a prop maker on a movie.
