The decision.

We were at the end of high school, and it was time to choose my future. I was interested in the healthcare field. Should I have chosen the physiotherapy program in Sherbrooke or the massage therapy program at a private college?

Choice 1 : Physiotherapy program.

Choice 2 : The Massage therapy program.

Physiotherapy program.

The physiotherapy program is offered at cegep or university. At cegep, it is a three-year program that allows me to enter the job market directly after. To go to university, I must complete two years of pre-university studies before pursuing a bachelor's and master's degree.Should I have chosen the three-year program or university?

The Massage therapy program.

The Massage therapy program was interesting, it offers three levels: Massage therapy, Kinesitherapy, and Orthotherapy. Each level costs $5000 or more. The program was beyond my budget. I could not afford it.

The three-year program offered me the opportunity to learn the ropes. During my first year, I had to choose two internships. The first was in a private clinic and the second was in a hospital with elderly people. Which should I chose?

Choice 2 : The hospital.

University.

I finally decided to go to university, and I had to start with pre-university program. However, the program was to general, and I didn't have straight A's. I was so overwhelmed with my homework because I did not have good time management. I expelled from the school because of my bad grades. My only solution was to do a cursory job. I had a dead-end job.

Choice 1 : Physiotherapy program.

The hospital.

During this internship, I learned that what we learn in class was not at all what we saw on leg work. We had patients walk a few meters for half of my internship, and she told me that is what we do the most often time than not. She also told me that the hospital was doing a background check, and we had multiple opportunities to receive a premium wage when we did overtime. The fact that the job was very repetitive discourage me.

The private clinical.

The private clinic was very constructive. They offer an on-the-job-training during the first few weeks. They offer a good wage, but no pension of retirement. They also learned me a lot about different pathology like osteoporosis, stroke, and arthritis. They also show me different application of treatment like cryotherapy, thermotherapy, elecrotherapy and joint mobilization. They even offered opportunity to apply treatment to a patient. Should I say yes or no?

I was starting the treatment, but at the same time the technologist's supervisor arrived and asked her why an unqualified person was administering a treatment. She was dismissed. Personally, I lost my internship position and was dismissed from the physiotherapy program.

I shouldn't.

I did not apply the treatment because I did not have the required qualifications. We continued talking, and she showed me other treatments ans she also explained that we can have a vacant position in certain clinics. After that, I had finished my internship as an intern. The year was ending, and I need to know what I was going to do during the summer holidays. Should I go to Africa to do a volunteering abroad of just relax all summer.

I had decided to go to a tropical paradise to visit and relax in warm countries. I visited five countries. I had a lot of fun, however, by the end of the summer I had spent all of my savings. I had no money to pay for my studies, so I had to drop out of school.

Choice 1 : I shouldn't.

Volunteering abroad.

I decided to do a volunteering abroad. I went to Africa to distribute some food in a poor village. I went there because I needed a new purpose that summer. During this trip I learned a lot about the population and how they live, but I've found some disadvantages. A big disadvantage was that I did not have a wage. An advantage was that I learned a new language. At the end of the summer, everyone wanted me to stay, but I had to go back to school. Should I take a gap year or continue my studied?

I had decided to take a gap year. During that year, I continued to ravel while finding odd jobs to support myself. I met incredible people, and I saw things we can not see in Quebec. However, I ended up contracting a very rare disease in a poop country, and was forced to spend all my money trying to get treatment, but the doctors couldn't do anything. I am paralyzed for life.

Continue my studies.

I had decided to continue my studies. I was in my second year. IT was the year I learned the most treatments, such as rolling, gliding, nerve treatments, mobilizations, displacements, etc. I had internships in clinics where I applied my first treatment under the supervision of a teacher. I loved my internships, and meeting my patients. I had to choose between a geriatrics internship and an orthopedics internship. What should I choose?

Choice 1 : Geriatrics.

Choice 2 : Orthopedics.

Geriatrics.

My geriatrics placement was long. I was doing almost the same thing with the patients, and had to repeat the same instructions several times because they were not listening. I found my days long, so I ended up stopping showing up for my internships, and because of that, I was kicked out of the physiotherapy program.

Choice 1 : Try again

Orthopedics.

My internship in a specialized orthopedic clinic was incredible! I treated several pathologies, and learned new ones. I loved my environment and was very dedicated. I ultimately receive an excellent final grade, and, in addition, I was offered two jobs. Should I choose the orthopedic clinic that pays more but is located 40 minutes away or the clinic that pays less but is 15 minutes away?

Choice 2 : The furthest clinic.

The nearest clinic.

The nearest clinic was a better choice because I spent less money on gas, and I could even take the bus. This job allowed me to gain experience, and gave me the opportunity to work as a technologist at the end of my studies at their clinics, which are located in all major cities. All that remained was for me to choose the city I wanted. Should I choose Sherbrooke or Trois-Rivières?

Choice 1 : Sherbrooke.

Choice 2 : Trois-Rivières.

The furthest clinic.

The furthest clinic wasn't the right choice. The extra money I had was going to coast me in gas. Plus, I had to get up early every morning, so I couldn't enjoy my summer. To top it all off, I wrecked my car from driving so much. I had an old car.

Sherbrooke.

I finally decided to stay in sherbrooke. I spent all my Cegep years here. I made friends, a boyfriend, a new family. Sherbrooke has become my new home. I have a job where I feel fulfilled.

Choice 1 : Finish

Trois-Rivières.

Trois-Rivières was my dream city I always loved it. The river flowing through it, and the beautiful city made it exceptional. The only constraint was finding either a house or an apartment. Which should I choose?

Choice 1 : Apartment.

Choice 2 : House.

Apartment.

Due to high demand, I was unable to find an apartment. I found myself without a place to live, so I refused the job offer.
