What comes after cegep?

You are a 20 year-old-student graduating from Cegep de Sherbrooke, and getting straight A's while your working a half time job for a small wage. Your goal is to work in finance internationally, and you dream of doing an internship in Asia. You aim for financial freedom, so you find it important to have an important income and to minimize debt. You have a passion for economics, politics, and you are eager to travel the world across different cultures. In three month you're graduating cegep, so you need to think about what's next. You know you got accepted in Mcgill and your head is spinning, will you go study in a big town where your dream could come true, but you'll face financial stress because the cost of living is high or will you chose to work full time to save then study abroad, so your sure to not get indebted.

Congradulation! You got in Mcgill!

You decided to make the risk, and it pays off. You're now learning the ins-and-out of finance, and you got accepted to the Honour of Management in Investment program reserve to the elite. You love your job, especially, picking up the good stocks while analysing in-depth their companies. It's almost the end of the second semester, and now you need to think about summer. You've been accepted for an internship in La Caisse des Dépôts, but at the same time you miss your family. What will you decide?

It's not a goodbye, Sherbrooke...

You decided to stay in Sherbrooke, got a job, and now you're working overtime to save the money for your studies. Your boss is not really affectionate, to stay polite, and recently, you've witnessed a sexual harassment in the workplace. The problem is that if you denounce the perpetrator, it could undermine your job, and get you fired. At the same time, not denouncing would be again your values, and you would live with the shame of not helping the recipient all your life. What will you do in that situation?

You went to see your family, and felt like it was the correct choice because you started feeling overwhelmed by studying, and working. Your mom and sisters were happy to see you, and you're having a great time with them. Only two weeks later, while you were going on a bike trip with them, you received a call. It was a big Investment firm who had a vacant position, and thy where looking for a new intern, exactly like you. The department you'd be working in was in emerging markets analysis fitting perfectly your interest in economy. The hr person said on the phone they need an answer right if you want to accept the position or not, at the same time you see your mom walking towards you, two ice cream in the end, smiling at you, and saying how great those few weeks are going to be, now that you're back home. Oh no... what are you going to do?

Career first!

There you are! You took the internship, and now you're working for La Caisse des Dépôts in emerging market analysis. You work a lot, do a lot of pitch, excel presentations, and business meetings. The pros ; you learn fast, and have high compensation package. Your superior likes you, and offers you to stay. If you decide to stay, you'll have a nice job, high performance bonus, but you'll hit the income ceiling sooner than if you go back to school and graduate. Hard choice, what will decide?

Choice 1 : You want to climb the whole mountain! Let's go back to McGill.

Choice 2 : Nice job, nice pay... you'll stay.

Courage is needed in life! You did the right thing.

You've put aside your fears and denounced the perpetrator. Unfortunately, you got fired, but it's fine because you are proud of yourself, and you know you did the right thing. You think you have almost enough saving, and that it's a good time to go to apply to McGill -- your dream university. However, just before you were going to apply, your good friend offers you to work with him for his new startup in bookkeeping. You see in there the chance to save more money before going to university. Will you accept the offer?

Who thought you were Superman or some??

You are not some kind of super hero after all. You want to keep your job, period. You continue to work there, continue to see see sexual misconducts, and eventually you start to be depressed. You feel a lot of shame on your shoulders, and you can't take it anymore. You call your friend while crying, he says he understands, and offers you to come work with him of his new startup. You know it's going to pay less, but at the same time... have you seen yourself? Is it time to quit your job and work with him?

Back to Mcgill!

Summer goes fast, and you're now back in McGill. You continue learning about finance derivatives, machines learning, and behavioral economics. You find some class very hard, and you fail some classes, so you start wondering if finance was a good fit for you. Maybe it's time to take a break. Is it?

Choice 1 : It's time for a break! Let's go in Jamaica.

Choice 2 : Giving up? No way, you'll continue.

La Caisse des Dépôts hasn't seen me for the last time.

It's been two years since you've been working for La Caiss des Dépôts now. Your customers are seeing high yields, and they are happy with you. Even if everything is going well, you start to become alienate to your job as it's becoming repetitive and boring. You want to discover and do new things, but you didn't finish you bachelor, so the options are pretty limited. You know you have one thing letf to do... go back to McGill.

Choice 1 : Back to Mcgill!

Working with your friend.

You start working with your friend as the treasurer of the company. You do a lot of balance sheets work and handles all the financial aspects of the company. At the end of the spring, you friend offers you to continue working for him instead of going to McGill like you planned. He really wants you to stay, so he assures you that, if you accept, you'd get half of his company -- a deal hard to refuse. What should you do?

Choice 1 : You stick to the first plan -- McGill.

Choice 2 : Let's accept this deal!

You really need those couple bucks.

For a couple more dollars, you decided to stay. Now you start really regretting your choice, every day is a nightmare, the boss is ruthless, sexual harassment is common now, the job feels very mechanical. You become more depress than ever, and you fear going through a non breaking point. Instead of working sometime, you browse flights in the south. You have one month before applying to McGill, but you think about something else : Jamaica. Do you want to screw everything for Jamaica which will take you away from this undesirable life or stick until the end of the one month to your job?

Choice 1 : Screw this career -- you buy the ticket plan.

Choice 2 : You're very depress, but one month will be surmountable.

Mmmh... what a great place!

You chose to take a break from your stressful life in the south, in Jamaica. You are now falling in love with the hot temperature and the beach with beautiful sand. You start dreaming about staying here and becoming a shop worker, so you can enjoy the wonderful sun all the rest of your life. Would you let your heart decide on this one, or you'll make a cold move and go back to McGill?

You started this to finish it.

You decided that life wasn't easy, and that sometimes you had to pass through big challenges to achieve your goals, so you decided to finish your bachelor. You failed, you did some class again, you did some classes again and now you have your diploma! It's time to think about the next step. Your friend who has a big startup, want's you at his company, but at the same time you want to do an MBA because you know this would get you even more valuable for employers.

Choice 2 : You need the MBA after all.

Enough work, you applied for McGill, and got accepted. Congratulation! You're now learning the ins-and-out of finance, and the best thing is that you don't stress about having enough money, so you take time for your friends, and go see your family from time to time. You finish two semesters, and now you think if you should go back for summer in home to see your family, or accept an internship that you've been proposed. It's a hard choice, think it thoroughly.

You chose your friend company.

You accepted the position that your friend was offering. The job is very demanding, and there are a lot of customers' expectation, you present the quarterly report of the company. The results are good, so the investors are happy. Two years have past since you've accepted your friend offer. Now, start to look for something else because you feel constant pressure to deliver high results, and meet high expectations. You announce to your friends your thoughts, and that you were thinking about moving to the south in Jamaica for a while. Your friend is surprise and don't want you to quit because you're very valuable for his company, so he proposes you to pay for your MBA in Harvard. It makes you think, a Harvard MBA is worth $200 000 at least. Should you refuse?

Choice 1 : A MBA at Harvard, that's a one time opportunity -- you accept.

Choice 2 : You have enough of this life. You want something else. You choose Jamaica.

Oh Jamaica! It was meant to be.

You chose Jamaica, and you now feel like it was the right choice. You realise that it's the life which you always wanted deep down. You decide to buy a small house next to the beach, and fishing rod. Soon in the morning, you go fishing then you prepare the big fish you've captured. After the good meal, you lay under the sun all day long, your fit under, your feet, in the warm sand. What a beautiful life!

Your friend who had a big company in bookkeeping comes to you and opens you the door to the CEO role you've always dreamed about since you were a teenager. You know what you have to do...

If the company does great... well... it was meant to do great anyway, but if it does bad, everything is your fault, they say. You always thought, "work hard, play hard" was the saying for high achieving people, but now you just don't have any time to play, and now you start thinking about retiring in a calm place in the south. You bought your tickets, now it's time to take that plane.
