I had just finished high school. Looking back at it, they were probably the best 5 years of my life. The classes weren't the best, but it was the little moments during lunch or when we had to do some work and we just laughed for the whole period that I was going to miss. My friends and I were all going to different schools, so we knew we'd see each other less, which is what made us miss highschool the most. Seconds before I was about to leave, I get a call on my phone from an unknown number. That's weird, should I respond?
Choice 1 : I answer the phone.
Choice 2 : I let it ring without answering.

Surrendered by my friends, I answer the phone. With all the noise beside me, I can't really understand what the person on the phone wanted to say, so I kinda separate myself to hear what he wanted to say. It turns out it's the head coach of a hockey team of a CEGEP in Trois-Rivières on the other end of the phone. Without taking too much time on the phone because I explained to him it was the celebrations of the end of high school, he told me they saw me playing, and they were really interested in me playing for them next year. I was overwhelmed! I talked about it with my parents, and then asked me when I wanted to visit the facilities.
Choice 1 : We're going at the beginning of summer.
Choice 2 : We're going 3 weeks before the start of school.
This being the last moment my friends and I are together in high school, I put aside my phone. I didn't want anyone to prank call me during one of the best moments of my life, because let's be honest, who calls on unknown. After the celebration was done, we all went to our own home, so we could prepare for our day trip to a cottage. We all gave our leave of absence to our boss, except one. He couldn't take 2 days off because he does a lot of leg work, meaning he had to travel a lot in the small towns of Quebec. While I'm packing I'm debating if I bring my baseball glove or not. Should I bring it?
Choice 1 : I bring my glove.
Choice 2 : I don't bring my glove.
The drive was drudgery. Even though it was only an hour and a half, it felt like it was two times longer, maybe even 3 times. The school was a private school, usually reserved for straight A's students, which I wasn't. They made it clear that even if someone came here to play hockey, they still had to get good grades or consequences would be implemented. I knew from one of my friends that the hockey coaches were sometimes bribing teachers so the players could get good grades. After a long visit of the school, the person that guided us asked us if we wanted to go look at the dorms.
Choice 1 : We visit the dorms.
Choice 2 : I'll take an apartment.
The stress is starting to be at an all time high. I'm starting cegep in 3 weeks, and I still don't know which school I'll attend. It's maddening because I couldn't decide because I didn't know what their school looked like. Because of my poor time management skills, my parents and I had to pull off a miracle to get there, visit the school, and come back in the same day. As if our day couldn't get any worse, the person that was supposed to help us with the tour of the school canceled on us an hour before. Luckily, when we arrived, I asked a random guy that was my age if knew someone who could help us visit the school. He gladly told us he could show us around, should we follow him?
Choice 1 : He shows us the arena.
Choice 2 : He shows us the classes.
Even if it takes some place in my bag, I'm sure it'll serve a purpose. Even if it doesn't, it could probably come in handy as a hat. After an hour, we stop at the grocery store to get everything we needed for the trip. The only drawback to the cottage was that it was really far in the forest, and nothing was close to it. Thinking nothing of it, I bring my glove in the grocery store. While looking for marshmallows, a guy in a suit approaches me. He told me he used to play professional baseball. We talked a bit about baseball, but then the topic switch, and he was telling me he was looking for an intern for the summer. He told me he was working in finance, which is what I wanted to do in life, and that he had a vacant position to fill. We exchanged numbers, and he texted me an hour after. Should I respond?
Choice 1 : I respond to his text.
Choice 2 : I don't respond to his text.
After an hour ride, we stop at a grocery store. The only drawback to the cottage was that it was really far in the forest, and there was nothing close to it. We bought everything we needed, and continued our way to the cottage. I forgot how much things are expensive these days, this inflation thing is no joke. After all that time, we were finally there. This place was huge. We had an in depth visit of the cottage. We even went and looked at the lake. They had a quay, which was ingrained in the earth. The cottage was an asset of the grandparents of one of my friends. How did I know? When we arrived, they were still there. With his grandparents being old, should I offer my help to go cut some wood for the campfire.
Choice 1 : I offer my help.
Choice 2 : My friends offer his help.
With the fact that I'll be at a new school, my parents and I wanted to make sure I get to make friends easily. Funny enough, when we go to look at the dorm that would be mine, the guy that I'm assigned with is also there. He's playing hockey for the school. We talked for a bit and we instantly clicked. He was telling me that his dad was a portfolio manager, which turns out to be something I might want to do. I love stocks and watching the market. He was telling me that they offer some jobs that are a foot in the door, and that I could probably apply and get the job, since his dad could talk to HR to hire me. Should I apply?

With my parents wanting me to learn how to do every chores in the house, they thought it was better for me to live in an apartment by myself. I honestly think it's nice, you get to feel like it's your new home and it's somewhere where you have everything. The only dilemma we have is if I want something that is close to the school or something that is kinda far.

By telling him that I'm here because I got offered to play for the hockey team, he tells me he'll start by showing us the arena. Thinking it's just a regular rink, it turns out to be a newly built arena, I've never seen something this nice. Whether it's the gym, the hockey rooms, the stands or even the ice, everything looks like it's perfect. Even my parents were impressed. They knew the school was a great school, but they didn't think it was this nice. The expenses for this were probably out of this world.

With him being there for school, he shows us what he knows the best, which is the school. I was dreading to see the classes. He kinda showed me around and he made me learn the ropes of this school and how it works. I was surprised by the size of the classes, they were really smaller than what I was used to. He told me they were usually between 10 and 15 students per class. Seeing that I was confused, he explained to me that it's because teachers really want to be available for the students that need help.

Seing an opportunity like this, I respond immediately. In life, I don't think something happens for nothing, so it's a sign. We exchanged for a week, I had an interview, they did a background check on me, and next thing you know I was hired. Before I took the job, I wanted to test drive the job, just to see if I liked it. After the first day, I knew I was right where I wanted to be. For my first few days, they showed me the ins and outs of the job. Even if I knew the basics like index funds or diversification of a portfolio, there was still a lot left to learn. I started as a trainee, and when I was fully able to work by myself, I became an employee, and my wage became way better, premium wage if I can say.

It was too good to be true, no ones gives you the chance to work in a prestigious job like that after talking with someone you met at a grocery an hour ago. Even if it were what I wanted to do in life, I already had a job for the summer, and I told him I was available all summer, I would've felt bad if I announced to him that I left. He had just promoted me to a much higher rank because he thought I was doing a really good job. To resist the temptation, I deleted his message because I knew it was the right thing to do. We then had one of the best weekends of our life, without a worry in the world. We were still on our high of finishing high school, and it was special because we were all best friends finishing a major part of our life.

Hoping I can help them, I offer my help to go get some wood for the campfire. They're running low on stocks, and I know we'll at least do one, so I take the axe and I go on a little adventure. After a couple of hours, I come back with enough pieces for the next 5 years. I feel like it was the least to do, since they're giving us access to their cottage for the weekend.

Them being his relatives, he offers his help. As a nice gesture, he offers to go cut down some trees. Seeing how fun it looks, I go with him. It turns out we did a lot in an hour. We came back, installed everything and we were ready to have a really nice weekend.
