I just finished High School and I had to make the bid decision, what was going to be my future career. I loved all types of arts, and creating things. On the list of options I had two careers that interested me the most.
Choice 1 : The path of Graphic design.
Choice 2 : The path of animation
Graphic design was a thoughtful idea, I had straight A's in almost all of my courses, more important in art class. Having good grades helped me enter more easily in the program of Graphic design in the Cegep because they always do a background check before accepting someone in. I was really lucky, they accepted me immediately! But as always I found myself alone on the first day of class because of my lack of confidence, what should I do this time? Should I stay this way or make friends?
Choice 1 : Stay alone for the rest of the semester
Choice 2 : Put aside the bad thoughts and make some friends
I decided to stay in my bubble and center all my attention on learning more about the career that I choose. I learned the meaning of CMYK and RGB, how to use a grid and where to found a typography and all the different types of fonts it has. I became so good, that even the teacher became interested in me, he even suggested to me a vacant position and became his personal assistant. He told me that I could still learn the ropes while doing on-the-job training with him, Should I accept or not?
Choice 1 : yes
Choice 2 : No
Entering the animation program was easy. On the first day of School I was drawing a character for my illustration class and a girl in my group came by and gave me some ins-and-outs about how I should be doing my character. In the class, she gave the impression that she knew about everything because she answered all the question the teacher asks us, so maybe I should listen to her if I want to have a good grade. What should I do?
Choice 1 : I took her advice
Choice 2 : Don't listen to her and believe in yourself
It was not a good idea to center myself in the idea of being a good friend with everyone. I set aside the opportunity of becoming a good student because I stopped doing my projects and homework, I was only helping my friends and going out with them. I even took a leave of absence because they wanted to go skip class for a week and go mall shopping. I ended by having bad grades and decided to quit because I was so humiliated.
Choice 1 : GAME OVER, Start again
I became a trainee and learned a lot about being a secretary and not a lot about graphic design, while all the class learned about what was a call to action, a virtual communication, how to make a good mock up and how to select a good color palette with Pantone, I was sitting next to the teacher looking through his agenda. I really need a compensation package because this was a dead-end-job.
Choice 1 : GAME OVER, Start again
I took her advice and finished in a bad situation. The girl undermined my character in front of the teacher, she told him I copy her. She obviously did it on purpose, she wanted me to have 0, she's a perpetrator. The teacher saw her intentions and decided to abolish her from his class for at least 2 weeks. I felt overwhelm, but I felt bad because of the girl, maybe she was just jealous of my work. Perhaps animation is not for me.
Choice 1 : Take a year off
Choice 2 : Apply to a job
Refusing was great. I saw someone being used by the teacher and getting sucked in by depression because she wasn't able to be with us. I stayed focused till the end. Three years passed by, and it was time to show my portfolio, people were impressed by my style. I had so many projects like, posters, photos, covers for books, CD's, magazines, menus for restaurants, logos, packaging for different objects, I even had videos of promotions that I did in after effects. I was so happy. I even got a job that day, a company of design was so impressed that they wanted me immediately. My future is going to be amazing.
Choice 1 : GOOD ENDING, start again!
I love working with animals and people. It's an amazing job while searching for a new career.
Choice 1 : GAME OVER, Start again
Lack of stress, stability and great social advantages. Taking a year was the best idea ever!
Choice 1 : Go back to the start and try graphic design, maybe it would be a better path
I believed in myself, and I draw my character using my creativity and all the things I learned in the first day of class. The teacher loved my final artwork, he was impressed by my skills with the pencil and the concept I gave to my character. He told me that my future was going to be amazing overtime. He was right, when I finished the Cegep, I pulled off a good job, and now I'm working for Disney.
Choice 1 : Go back to the start, you did well!
