Big-Life-Choices

My Present Situation.

After three maddening years of time management and working hard to pull of straight A's, I finally received my collegian study diploma in Social Sciences. From all the courses I fallowed two university programs picked my interested. I was hesitating between Anthropology and Neuropsychology.

Graduation!

My Life in Anthropology.

In Ahthropology, I went to the University of Sherbrooke where I met a lot of people, I traveled across the globe to learn about different cultures and human behaviour. During that time, I made good friends who have values similar to mine. I enjoyed almost all of my classes and was fascinated about almost all of the subjects. After university, in this career path, two job opportunities we offered to me. I had to make a choice between working abroad which leads to exhaustion or working at home in Quebec for a company which leads to alienation.

Choice 1 : Working Abroad.

Choice 2 : Working for a Company in Quebec.

University of Sherbrooke

My Life in Neuropsychology.

In Neuropsycology, I went to the University of Montreal (UDM). I followed most of my friend who had been there for over a year now, so I was well-surrounded during that time. The Program made me passionate but put me under a lot of pressure at the same time because it was really hard. My sabbatical year helped me because I had studied the subject beforehand which got me to the doctorate. After I graduated I was hesitating in applying either to work for a private company which would get me stuck in office politics and corruption or to apply to work for the government in a local hospital where I would witness sexual harassment.

Choice 2 : Working for a Local Hospital.

Working Abroad.

Working abroad was an invaluable experience with in-depth learning and great human connection. It gave me purpose, although I lost touch with my friends from university. A few years passed I started thinking it was a dead-end job. I started to get tired of being consistently away from home. This line of work took an immense amount of energy for so little reword. At this point depending on the amount of energy I gave to It my life trajectory could take two different turns. I could either work extremely hard, staying focus and publishing a very successful research who would get me recognition in my field or I could let go a little, work less and party more which would get me in trouble.

Working for a Company in Quebec.

In the beginning, I was hired as a trainee and doing OJT at a low wage. One of the drawbacks of that job was that my salary would go up very slowly. The Job was very dull and over time I felt a lack of fulfillment. Again, I had to choose between two options. Staying and getting even more alienated or leaving to travel and going bankrupt.

Choice 1 : Staying at the Company.

Choice 2 : Leaving the Company.

My everyday life at the company

Working for a Private Company in Neuropsychology.

Working at a private company got me sucked up in office politics. I saw one of my coworkers trying to steal some valuable assets of the company. He caught me lurking around and tried to bribe me into silence with money. When I told him that withholding this information wasn't right and that it could cost me my job, he threatened to harm me and my family. I was then confronted to two options. I could either say something to my boss, this person would get fired, and I would keep my job or I could choose to say nothing and risk getting fired.

Choice 1 : I Said Nothing.

Choice 2 : I Told my Superior.

The stolen assets

Working for a Local Hospital.

Working for my local hospital in Neuro psychology was great because I was well-paid on the downside I was overwhelmed with the amount of work and saw a lot of traumatizing misconduct. I witnessed sexual harassment. A coworker was flirting over what was acceptable with some of the patients. The recipients were very uncomfortable with his actions and even though they told him, he would continue. I could either go to HR and let them handle the situation or I could do nothing just to make sure nothing bad happens to me.

Choice 2 : Staying Silent.

By working hard abroad in Anthropology I was published all around the world for a remarkable paper I wrote with an emerging theory on human connection in culture. I continued in this field by doing conferences everywhere in the world.

Letting Go a Little.

I choose to work less hard and to focus on the relation ships I had abroad. I said yes to every activity and didn't work a lot on my paper. And so, I wasn't able to hand it over in time to my employer. He started noticing that my work was getting sloppy, and he chose to fire me. I was unsuccessful and unemployed and went back to Quebec to live with my parents.

Party

Staying at the Company.

I stayed at the company and nothing changed. I felt so alone and bored and fell into depression. It took me years of suffering before I was able to retire. I became a grumpy old woman with no ambition.

Leaving the Company.

I left that dull place and chose to travel. A few years went by, and I started to create and sell art and clothes I made. I didn't get a lot of money, and so, as I got older I got weaker and produced less, at one point I couldn't produce anything anymore and didn't get any more income. I became sick for my unsanitary lifestyle. I died young but happy since I had lived a life full of experiences and fun encounters.

I Said Nothing.

I kept my silence. One day my boss found out. To protect himself the person who stole said that I was part of the plan. I lost my job and work at a corner store for the rest of my sad life.

After I went to HR, they did a background check on the perpetrator and found out he had a criminal history related to sexual harassment. They fired him and gave a compensation to the victims. I finally felt safer working over there and managed to deal with my stress. I made a lot of money and was able to buy a house by the sea.
