When high schools finished I had a few choices of CEGEP where I could study and play volleyball. I really wasn't sure of what to do and where to go. Nevertheless, two choices stood out to me.

Choice 1 : Go to Montmorency College.

Choice 2 : Go to Bois-de-Boulogne College.

When I got accepted to Montmorency College, I couldn't be happier. I had a difficult choice to make between two interesting programs.

Once I got to Bois-de-Boulogne College, I knew I would have to double the effort to have straight A’s. I had a big decision to make: whether to keep playing volleyball or quit to focus solely on school.

Once I started my Science program, I was pleased with my choice. I had to choose a complementary class and chose the Spanish class. A volunteering experience was part of the class. I was debating whether I should go and extend my CEGEP journey or get my diploma to go to university.

Once I started my program, I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue or change programs. The workload was immense, and with volleyball, it was barely manageable. My API suggest I do my internship and choose after. I still wasn't sure because that meant I had to do one more month of school after the end of the school year.

The minute I started my science program, I knew that it wouldn't work. People were so competitive and petty when it came to school. I put so much time studying that I didn't perform in volleyball, and even with all my investment in having good grades, I didn't have straights A's. So, I gradually became depressed.

Only a week after starting school at the Bois-de-Boulogne Science program, I knew that I regretted my choice of quitting volleyball. The fact of not having a team and playing sports made me depressed.

Choose to do an internship.

I tried doing the internship just like my API suggested, but there was an error. Nothing good came out of the awful experience, only troubles and bad memories.

After this difficult first session, I really became depressed. I did not know what to do. I went to my parent for guidance, and they suggested that I switched to the Science program at Montmorency to continue my studies.

When I started my internship, I was put in a duo with a cute guy. Our relationship was a mix of flirtation and friendship. Then, at the party to celebrate the end of our internship, he tried to kiss me. I told him clearly that I did not want to do this with him and that I valued our friendship more. And at the end of the party, when I was drunk and vulnerable, he came back and kissed me without my consent. I tried to get away, but I was too weak. Nobody came to help because they thought it was normal for us to kiss because of the flirtation during the internship, but sadly, it was sexual harassment. I was traumatized and decided to change programs to never see him again.

At first, I really liked my internship, and I was happy with my choice. But as time went on, I became overwhelmed. Because it was one month after school, my summer job had already started. I thought I could pull off managing both, but even with good time management, I couldn’t. So, I decided to quit my internship and, therefore, change programs.

Get my Diploma of College Studies in Sciences.

Once I got my diploma, I was torn between two choices. This decision would shape the rest of my life.

Choice 2 : Go to HEC.

Choose to volunteer abroad.

Volunteering abroad was an invaluable experience. I felt fulfillment, but I came back to finish my diploma.

Become a physical therapist.

I loved studying to become a physical therapist. It wasn’t easy all the time, but the grit and love I had for this career was driving me. I had the opportunity to have a job at my old high school, College Laval, and I jumped on the chance!

Go to HEC.

Surprisingly, I loved my time at HEC. I made a bunch of friends and connections. When I graduated, a few companies were offering an internship. I was overwhelmed with joy. I chose a financial internship.

At first, I was so excited to finally be an intern because I would see the ins and outs of finance. The drive to work made me work overtime almost every day. Seeing me get sucked up in, my mentor told me that there were easier ways to climb the salary ladder, corruption. I was so disgusted by her words that it made me realize that this job was not meant for me.

Get a job in a high school.

My job was going really well. I grew in experience, and I became a better physical therapist. I even met a boy, Nathan, who was really great, and we started dating. We even got an apartment together. One day, I had an offer to work overseas with a soccer team. It was always a dream of mine to work with a professional team. I realized that I would have to choose between love and my career because doing six months of long distance wouldn’t work for Nathan and me.

Realize is a dead-end job.

Once I realized finance was a dead-end job, I decided to go back to university.

Back to square one, I decided to pursue my education to become a physical therapist because it was always in the back of my mind.

After one of the biggest decisions of my life, staying in Quebec and continuing to work at my old job, my relationship with Nathan took a step forward, he asked for my hand.

Choose my career.

I went overseas with hopes and dreams. Sadly, I become sad and lonely. Even working my dream job couldn’t heal the pain of being away from Nathan. So, I decided to cut my trip short and head back home. When I arrived in Quebec, Nathan was waiting for me. The minute I saw him, my spark finally came back.

After getting married, I got pregnant, and I had to take a leave of absence. I had to work with the HR to find someone for the vacant position I made. They were really thoughtful, and even got me a little present for my baby.

After two back-to-back pregnancies, I finally went back to work. I loved working there, so I did the entirety of my career there. In the end, I felt some alienation towards my new coworkers, that when I knew it was time to retire. My retirement was an easy task because I had put money aside during my 35 years of service.

I lived happily ever after with my kids, my grand kids and my husband. I had the chance to travel a lot.
