The end of High School.

I finally graduated from high school, and I had to choose what I wanted to do next. I had options but which ones will lead to my success? Go to CEGEP or take a gap year?

Choice 1 : Go to CEGEP.

I had to choose which program will be the best option for me. Do I choose the program Social Science Business or should I choose Social Science Individual?

Take a gap year.

I didn't know what I wanted to do in life, and I wanted to find a purpose. I wanted to be useful, so taking a gap year was probably the best idea for that. I had time to think about what I wanted. I had two options. Travel the world and enjoy my life or I find a student job and work full time to make money. Which one should I choose?

Choice 1 : Travel.

Choice 2 : Work and make money.

Take the program Social Science Business.

I decided to go to Social Science Business. I really enjoyed my program. I had math and economics courses, so I opened my options more for my future career. I didn't have to do them in University if I ever realized I needed them. Now, I had to choose what major I wanted for University. Which one between Bachelor in Commerce, Major in Human Resource Management or Bachelor in Commerce, Major in Finance?

Choice 1 : Bachelor in Commerce, Major in Human Resource Management.

Choice 2 : Bachelor in Commerce, Major in Finance.

Take the program Social Science Individual.

I decided to go to Social Science Individual. I really enjoyed the program, and I made friends but half-way in, I realized that this program was not useful for my future program in University since I needed prerequisites in math and economics. It was a dead-end, so, I should go back and choose the Business program.

Choice 1 : Go to CEGEP.

Travel.

I always dreamed to travel the world and see all the beautiful things of the earth. The only issues were the money and the time. Now, that I took a gap year I was able to explore some countries. I wanted to go to Europe because every country is close, so I would be able to visit each country by train, and it will cost me less money. What country should I visit first? Spain or Italy.

Choice 1 : Visit Spain.

Choice 2 : Visit Italy.

Work and make money.

I decided to make money, so I could save up for my personal expenses and to travel later. Since I didn't have to study, I had time to work minimum 30 hours a week. I was already working in an insurance company making $26 an hour, but it was so boring. The days felt long and repetitive. I wanted something more dynamic. Should I find a second job, or I should stay either way since I make more money?

Choice 1 : Find a second job.

Choice 2 : Stay in the same job.

The major in human resources management was really interesting. I talked about my program with my cousin who works in the field, and she said she could offer me an internship. I should accept because I was not even sure if that's what I wanted to do in life, so it would be the perfect opportunity for me to test drive. My mom said that if she was me, she would accept the offer. Do I accept or refuse the offer?

I didn't expect the courses to be so hard. I didn't understand much, and I was always stressed. Even though I studied a lot, it was not enough to pass my courses. My teacher told me that if she was me she would change for the major in human resource management?

Visit Spain.

I landed in Spain full of excitement. It was beautiful. The warm air and the Spanish accent made me feel like I was going to experience something special. I had to find a place to stay for two weeks. Should I live with a local host family to learn Spanish faster and live the culture or rent a small apartment to have privacy?

Visit Italy.

The moment I stepped off the plane, the scent of pizza and espresso filled the air. I went to visit the most popular monument and it was so pretty. The food was amazing and the people were even better. I had time to focus on myself, but I wanted to learn something from this experience. I had two activity options : take a cooking class or learn the local language with a famous secret actor. Which one should I take?

Find a second job.

Now, I had to choose what second job I should do. Be a waitress in a restaurant or work in an interactive game?

I stayed in the same job I was already doing. The time was passing so slow. I never wanted to do overtime. The only good thing about this was that I was paid a premium wage. I started missing school and I was never happy. Should I choose a second job or go back to the beginning and stay in school?

Do the internship.

It was my first day. I arrived dressed up as an HR girly with my notebook. The supervisor was showing me around and fast enough she started explaining the ins-and-outs. I was learning the ropes pretty quick, and I felt come in handy helping her do the job. The supervisor had told me that for the first day I pulled it off like a champ. I continued my studies while doing the internship, I graduated and went to work in the same company has my cousin.

Live with a local host family.

The family that welcomed me were really nice. It was a family of five. There were two brothers. One was 21 years old and the other one was 7 years old. The little girl was 10 years old. The little brother and the little girl looked excited to meet me. The older brother welcomed me by showing me my room. The mom taught me how to cook Spanish dishes. It was the best decision of my life. The older brother was so handsome, and he made me meet his friends that were also pretty hot. The whole trip I was learning Spanish and the cultural dishes with the mom, playing with the little siblings before their bedtime, and enjoying the rest of the night with the big brother. I was starting to fall in love with the older brother, but it was time for me to leave to Italy. Should I stay longer or visit Italy?

Rent a small apartment.

I was trying to get my bags up the stairs and my neighbor saw me. He came to help me. He said he was from Grece, and he was studying abroad. He helped me settle in the apartment. Later, his twin sister came, and she told me she was volunteering abroad. They showed me the best places to party. We had so much fun. She even asked me if I wanted to volunteer with her. She said that if she was me she would accept because that was one of the best decisions of her life. She learned so many things and that's how she met all of her friends. Should I volunteer with her or should I just continue to explore the city.

Refuse the internship.

I refused the internship because I taught I wasn't going to be able to do my time management. I was talking with my classmate about it, and she made me realize that the study and the job were not the same. She told me I missed a big opportunity and that if she had a chance to do an internship before choosing her career she would have taken it. It made me regret my choice, so I called back my cousin and asked her if she still had a place for me. She told me the offer was still available, so I am going to do the internship.

I chose to also work as a game animator. I was having so much fun playing with kids and young adult. I was always excited to go to work because I knew I was going to meet new people and laugh with them. After having a boring day in the insurance company as a soliciting agent I was happy to know I was about to have fun. I kept working in both job til it was time for me to go back to school.

I had to wake up early every day. It was always busy on the weekends and people were always complaining that their eggs were too cold. It was a different vibe, but I didn't feel like I was building a relationship with my coworkers. I always came home tired, and I didn't have energy for my next work in the insurance company. I stayed anyway til it was time for me to go back to school.

Waitress for supper.

I chose to be a waitress for supper but should I choose to be a waitress in a fancy restaurant or waitress in a family-style restaurant.

I worked in a fancy restaurant, and I got a lot of tips. The rich people didn't hold back when it came to giving tips. I enjoyed the job and all of my coworkers were amazing, but after several weeks of working there, I realized that the behavior of the older men turned into flirtation. Even my coworkers noticed it. One of my coworkers told me that she got used to it, but she said it never got to a point where it was sexual harassment. I didn't care that much since I was getting more tips anyway. I worked in the morning in the insurance company and at night I worked in the restaurant. I did this til it was time for me to go back to school.

Family-style restaurant.

Working as a waitress in a more family-style restaurant was challenging and fun. There was always regular customers setting at the same table, and I was always their waitress. I bonded with them, and I was always excited to see them again. Some kids were happy to see me, and I used to get compliment about my energy. I learned patience, confidence, and I forever remembered this experience.

Volunteering abroad.

Volunteering abroad was an experience I will never forget. Every day was different. Sometimes, we were helping at local schools, other times we were organizing community events, etc. I made so many new friends from different countries and they each taught me different things. I learned so much. I was so grateful for that life experience I had. The other countries I went to visit next I volunteered. I wanted to find a purpose in life taking this gap year and the volunteering really made me accomplish that. When I went back home, I recommended to everyone I know to volunteer.

Stay in Spain.

I stayed in Spain for two more weeks. I was really becoming part of their family. It felt like home. I made new friends, I met a nice guy I liked who became my boyfriend, and I even found a second family who treated me like their daughter and who I got along with really well. I learned so many things, and I grew so much as a person. I didn't want to leave. The older brother who became my boyfriend decided to come with me to continue my journey and visit the other countries in Europe. Then, when it was time to return to Canada back to my family, he came with me to visit them. We kept visiting each other til we finally decided to live together years later.

Explore the city.

When my neighbor sister was volunteering, my neighbor was studying, so I was visiting the city with the friends I made at the party the first day I arrived. They showed me all the best places to visit, and the best activity to do in Spain. In the evening, when the twins came back we were always partying. Sometimes the brother had to stay home to study, so I would stay with him to try to help him. When the month was over, I had to leave to visit other countries. Since I had so much fun with them, I decided to take the train every night to come back and sleep in the same apartment.

Take a cooking class.

I took a cooking class in Italy, and it was memorable. The chef was a hot Italian, and he taught us how to make traditional dishes, from fresh pasta to authentic sauces, and I got to practice every step myself. The guy next to me was an Italian teenage boy who was trying to learn to impress his family. He helped me a little since the chef was not the best at English. I learned new techniques, discovered local ingredients, and even picked up some useful cooking tips I could use at home. I was proud of myself because I would be able to cook for my family in Canada. At the end of the cooking class, the teenage boy became my friend. He invited me to his house, so we could cook together for his family.
