An Immigrant's Story.
High School.
I studied in Morocco at Jaber Ben Hayan High School. I decided to get a technical program which is Science and Electrical Technology. It was an interesting field, but I only learned theory and never had practiced. That made me unsure about continuing for my future job. I worked hard and got good grades on my final exam. After that, I asked myself if I Should go to university or enter a CPGE, which is a two-year program to prepare for engineering school.
Choice 1 : CPGE.
Choice 2 : University.
CPGE.
My first year in CPGE as a Technology and Industrial Science student was full of stress because I had never experienced such a fast study rhythm. It made me anxious and not interested in studying. My grades were low, and the professors decided to let me pass to the second year to give me another chance. I had to choose between assuming my failure and returning to university or getting motivated for higher goals, and getting the final exam in order to apply for engineer schools.
Choice 1 : Return to University.
Choice 2 : Moroccan Engineer.
University.
I got accepted into Science University in Casablanca. I chose to study physics because it gave me the chance to earn a fundamental degree in electronics. One day, I posted on Facebook to find a team for my final project of the year, and that's how I met my life partner.
Choice 1 : Celebrating Love.
Choice 2 : Focusing on getting my degree and set aside love.
Love with no money.
I got married after graduating from university. I lived beautiful moments with my lovely family, following Moroccan traditions. We were both freshly graduated lovers with no idea about our future. We just got married to celebrate love.

Choice 2 : Stay in Morocco and start our own business to create a stable future.
CEGEP.
I start looking for the best program that would help me avoid a dead-end job and find a career with a real purpose in Canada. Being a mom sometimes hinders your opportunities. I don't want to get sucked up in a routine of cursory choices, so I aimed for a program that was really worthwhile.
Choice 1 : DEC - Electrical Engineering : Automation and Control. ( 3 years )
Choice 2 : AEC - Industrial automation ( 9 months )
Work life.
I worked as an assistant manager at Dollarama for three years. It came in handy for learning financial skills, improving my leadership, and getting a foot in the door of Canadian society. This experience helped me overcome challenges and learn the ropes. After that, I officially became a Canadian citizen, and it felt like all doors were open for me.
Choice 1 : Becoming a Mom and Staying Home Forever.
Choice 2 : Becoming a Mom and Shining in My Dream Career.
Officially Automation Technician.
During my studies, I learned the ins-and-outs of automation, PLC programming, robotics, troubleshooting, and electrical safety. I also learned how to manage projects, analyse problems in-depth, and work as a team. Now I should choose my future step.
Choice 1 : Specialize with certifications.
Choice 2 : Life's Unexpected Gift.
Improving your skills.
Specializing with certifications could give me a premium wage and help me stand out in the job market. It helps you avoid getting sucked up in repetitive jobs and opens doors to leadership roles.
Choice 1 : Certification in PLC programming.
Choice 2 : Robotics certification.
Building my career.
After getting my certifications, I pulled off a job in a packaging factory. I had to act thoroughly every day in troubleshooting issues, ensuring production and handling the ins-and-outs of automation. I faced maddening breakdowns, but I didn't let them hinder my work.
Choice 1 : My Path After High School.
Joining my colleagues.
I succeeded in my final exam at CPGE and got accepted into the best Moroccan Engineering School, ENSMR. I studied in the Electromechanics department. After working hard, I pulled off my engineering degree and celebrated this achievement with my colleagues. It was a worthwhile experience.
Choice 1 : The Perfect End, But Not My Destiny.

My husband immigrated to Canada as a computer science student and brought me with him as a temporary worker.

Even before starting my job, I was surprised by a new pregnancy. It wasn't planned, but I waited for it with mixed feelings.
