The Opportunity of a Lifetime.

End of high school.

I was finally graduating from high school! The ceremony was perfect right until the end, when my world collapsed and fear took over my body. I was leaving my high school friends, and I was let out into the open world with no purpose or dream to pursue! I was overwhelmed with mixed emotions. This year, I completed an entrepreneurship class and found the subject fascinating. Although I wasn’t sure what to do next, I wanted to try to pursue my studies in this field. I chose the Social Science Business Management program. Nevertheless, two choices were available to me. I had to choose between Andre Grasset College, where all of my friends were going, or Ahuntsic College. Unfortunately, to go to Andre Grasset College, I was required to get a scholarship. My parents couldn't pay for this school since it was overpriced. Ahuntsic College was a much closer school to my house and cheaper, but that would mean leaving my friends behind.

Choice 1 : Andre Grasset College.

Choice 2 : Ahuntsic College.

High school graduation

Andre Grasset College.

Everything was set, I was going to Andre Grasset College with my friends! I had spent the day talking with my friends about our future school and couldn't be happier. When I went home that day, I found my mother crying. I didn't get the scholarship and couldn't go to Andre Grasset. Being so sure that I would be able to go to this school, I had completely forgotten to keep another choice open for me. I didn't register myself at Ahuntsic! Everything was going downhill, I had no school, no job, and did nothing all day. My parents couldn't bear to see me lying around the house all day and threatened to kick me out if I didn't start doing something with my life. My dad gave me two choices: I could come work at his office and come in handy as a receptionist, or use the money I had set aside to travel the world.

Choice 1 : Dad's business.

Choice 2 : Travel the world.

Andre Grasset College

Ahuntsic College.

I decided to go to Ahuntsic College. I got straight A’s. In some of my courses, I did a cursory job, since the Business program was unfortunately extremely boring! This field of study wasn't for me, I had a lack of interest in business. Although I decided to make up for my grades, and because of my time management skills, I was able to pull off high grades in all of my courses. After 2 great years, I graduated from Ahuntsic College. Then, I got accepted to two great universities. The first choice was the safest, but incredibly boring from my point of view. I could continue my business studies at McGill University in the Deshautels Bachelor of Commerce or try a completely new subject: law. It was pretty scary since I didn't know if I could succeed or, if I would like it. I was accepted at the University of Montreal in law.

Choice 1 : McGill University.

Choice 2 : University of Montreal.

Ahuntsic College

McGill University.

I went to McGill in the Desautels Faculty of Management and started my first semester of a Bachelor of Commerce. It was the same as what I was learning in college. I still didn't like it, and it was not what I was looking for. I knew it wasn't the right profession for me and dropped out. I was completely discouraged and was even more lost in my life choices. It was maddening thinking about restarting my university in another completely different field. I had no motivation and started spiraling down. I eventually went into depression. Start again for a brighter future!

Choice 1 : End of high school.

McGill University

Work at my dad's business.

My dad had hyped this job; he said it would be filled with invaluable experiences. It only took me a day to realize he had sold me false expectations. I was stuck in this job for a year, and every night I would dread the next day even more than the day before. It was truly exhausting seeing all the drawbacks of being a receptionist, and don't let me start on the wage! It was barely over the minimum wage. After a while, I quit and confronted my parents. They told me that I had to leave their house until I had a new plan for my life. I was now homeless, wandering between my friends' houses. Go back to the start and make better choices.

Choice 1 : End of high school.

Travel the world.

I wasn't so eager about planning my travel itinerary, and I kept seeing beautiful publicity about an all-inclusive volunteering abroad company. I immediately booked with them, I was going to Hawaï to help the coral's life! When I arrived at the Hawaï airport, I started looking for my guide who was supposed to bring me to the place I was staying in. After waiting for hours, I started realizing something was wrong. I took out my phone to look up the number they had given me in case of problems, only to realize the website was completely deleted. I was scammed! I started panicking and opened my bank account and saw that all of my savings were gone! I was now trapped in Hawaï with no money to get home. Go back to the start and make better choices.

University of Montreal.

And just like that, I had completed my Bachelor of Law at the University of Montreal. I had discovered my passion and loved my studies. It took me 3 and a half years, then I did my bar school, and I officially obtained my degree. I now had to do my master's in law as well as an internship before I could work as a lawyer. Two choices were opened for me, I could do an internship in legal aid Montreal, where I would assist a criminal lawyer, or I could go to a private firm to assist a business lawyer.

Choice 1 : Internship at Legal Aid of Montreal.

Choice 2 : Internship in a private firm.

University of Montreal

Internship at Legal Aid of Montreal.

One thing I learned in this internship is that criminal lawyer at the legal aid of Montreal was definitely not the job for me! The cases I saw in this internship were sometimes so horrible and depressing that they completely threw me off criminal law. The only positive skill that this on-the-job training offered me was time management since the legal aid of Montreal was so overbooked! After completing this internship, the HR offered me a job as a lawyer in this company. I could accept this job or apply to private firms.

Choice 1 : Work for the Legal Aid of Montreal.

Choice 2 : Look for another job.

Legal Aid

I started working for the Legal Aid of Montreal. Unfortunately, I quickly realized that I was stuck in a dead-end job. There was no way for me to upgrade to a higher position since I had been dragged into some office politics, where I made terrible choices that cost me my reputation. I couldn't stand the constant pressure and the overtime I had to do every day. I lived a miserable life and was desperate for a brighter future. I decided to move. I was hesitating between moving to California or to France.

Choice 1 : Move to France.

Choice 2 : Move to California.

Look for another job.

I chose to look for another job since the internship at the Legal Aid of Montreal was not a good experience. My dream was to work in a private business firm. I started applying for jobs, and months went by with no answer. I had no choice but to go back to my old job and take the job at Legal Aid of Montreal. I was back at square one with the same draining job.

Choice 1 : Work for the Legal Aid of Montreal.

Internship in a private firm.

I was an intern at a private firm; I was assisting a business lawyer. It was an incredible place to be an intern; the employee doing my in-the-job training was great, and I learned the ropes. After my internship, I was offered a position as a business lawyer in this firm. I didn't know if I should accept or look for a job as a judge since it was my dream as a kid.

Choice 1 : Work for that private firm.

Choice 2 : Look for a job as a judge.

Move to California.

I moved to California with the idea of pursuing my law career. I found a nice job in a renowned lawyer's office. When I arrived, I immediately made new friends who were all in the music industry. Quickly, I started partying almost every night and developed an alcohol addiction. I had to take a leave of absence, but when I tried to come back, they had replaced me and had no other vacant position for me! I had lost my job. Go back to the start and make better choices.

Choice 1 : End of high school.

Drunk

Work for that private firm.

I decided to accept the position that the private law firm offered me. I was now a business lawyer making big money. I was having the time of my life and was quickly upgraded to a higher position as the headmistress of the firm. Everything turned out perfectly! Later on, a new lawyer joined our team. He was an old lawyer with a lot of experience, but he was old school. He started flirting with me inappropriately. I turned down his advances several times to make him understand that I wanted him to stop. It never stopped; I was now being sexually harassed at my dream job. I had to do something. I had two choices: I could report him to HR or try to warn him to stop one last time.

Choice 1 : Warn him one last time.

Choice 2 : Report him to the HR.

Sexual Harassment

Look for a job as a judge.

I gave my name to HR in case a judge position became available. Unfortunately, I was not nominated as a judge and had to return to the private law firm and accept the position that they had offered me as a business lawyer.

Choice 1 : Work for that private firm.

Judge

Warn him one last time.

I decided to warn him to stop one last time. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and let him have the chance to change by himself. At first, the flirting stopped, but it quickly started again when he saw that I wouldn't go to HR. The situation got out of hand. After all, I had no choice but to go denounce him to HR.

Choice 1 : Report him to the HR.

Warning

Report him to the HR.

I filed a complaint against my perpetrator, and HR implemented measures to deter him from misconduct. Everything went back to normal, I could go back to my lovely job. Eventually, after long working years, this job became drudgery. It was time for me to retire. I had earned a big pension and now had two choices. I could pay off my mortgage on my current house or buy a new house in Florida.

Choice 1 : Buy a house in Florida.

Choice 2 : Pay off my mortgage.

retiring

Pay off my mortgage.

I decided to stay in Montreal and pay off my mortgage. It was a great choice because after paying all of my debts, I still had some money left to enjoy my retirement and travel. I went to Greece, Florida, Brazil, and numerous other places. I was the happiest I ever was in my life until everything changed. My doctor had diagnosed me with cancer. It was treatable, but the chance of success was less than 2%. I had two choices in front of me: I could do chemotherapy and live in pain, with the uncertainty that I would heal. My other choice was to do nothing and enjoy the few years I had left.

Choice 1 : Do chemotherapy.

Choice 2 : Enjoy my last few years.

Traveling

Buy a house in Florida.

I decided to buy a second house in Florida. It was a horrible choice. I was now stuck with two houses and a mortgage to pay, and had even more debts. I didn't have enough money for my needs and had to sell the house in Florida. When I came back to Montreal, I had no money left and couldn't travel during my retirement anymore. I was stuck in Montreal for the rest of my life.

Choice 1 : End of high school.

I tried the chemotherapy, as I was warned there was a 98% chance that it would not cure me. It indeed did not work. Quickly after, I was on my dead bed.
