High school graduation. I finished high school in June and had to choose to go to Dawson College or Ahuntsic College. Dawson was big, vibrant, and in English. It felt like a place where anything could happen, but it also seemed very overwhelming. Ahuntsic was smaller, quieter, and in French. It felt like home, but I wondered if I was just choosing comfort. Should I go English at Dawson, or stay French at Ahuntsic?

Choice 1 : Go to Ahuntsic College.

After a lot of thinking, I decided to go to Ahuntsic College. The large campus and French environment felt like the right fit for me. It’s familiar, comforting. And the variety of programs and resources, I have plenty of opportunities to grow academically and personally. And after Ahuntsic, I can continue my studies at university, but I don`t know which one.

Choice 1 : Go to The University of Montreal.

Choice 2 : Work for MacDonald.

I decided to go to Dawson College, and I was very excited. The campus was large, and vibrant, which really drew me in. The English-speaking college felt like a fresh start, and a place full of opportunities, from internships to making connections with people that I wouldn’t meet anywhere else. Dawson college gave me a chance to learn from others, expand my perspective, and truly experience the world around me. It’s a very big step, but I’m excited to embrace everything that Dawson has to offer. After that, I can continue my studies at university, but I don`t know which one.

At the University of Montreal, I decided to pursue a major in communications. The program helped me work on Francophone media. I took courses on media analysis, investigative techniques, political communication, and ethics. Studying in French allows me to better understand Quebec’s media landscape and express myself fluently. I feel proud to be part of a community that values storytelling to the world. I studied to know how to use the French language in newspaper essays or producing thoughtful reports on social issues that matter to me and my community. During my studies, I also got the opportunity to do on-the-job training in a local newsroom. I don't know what to do should I take it or should I peruse my studies.

At Concordia, I enrolled in the Journalism program, which gives me a very great experience and digital storytelling. I get to work with real equipment, produce multimedia projects, and learn from professionals who’ve worked around the world. The English environment pushes me to express myself more easily. I get a lot of knowledge, not only about how to write articles or film videos, but also about how to tell stories in creative and meaningful ways. I learned how to work with others, how to meet deadlines, and how to cover stories that matter to people. Thankfully, I got an internship, and now I have a big decision to make. I don’t know if I should continue my studies or take the internship. It’s a great opportunity, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to leave school yet, or should I focus on gaining real world experience now.

Do on the job training.

In the summer after my graduation, I was a trainee for a job at a news station, I was trained by an employer who was few days older than me and thought she was my boss somehow. I thought she would show me the ins-and-outs of the job, but she only trained me for 30 minutes and went of her break, I knew nothing about the workload, the project nor the paperwork. I was suddenly responsible for all that, which was a real drawback for me. I had a lot of bad situations with projects overdue and wrong paperwork. I realized there was a bias in how I was trained by this employer who for no reason hated me, because when I compared myself to others who had proper OJT, I saw the difference in their ability to do well at their job, while I didn't know what to do for a while. Later on, my boss came asking me why I didn't take a break since I arrived, little did he know that I was never informed to take a break. He called my trainer and told her to explain to me every little detail, or she wouldn't have her break either. Finally, she explained to me everything I needed to know to do a descent job. I was able to do a good job and got paid my wages.

After a lot of reflection, I chose to continue my studies instead of rushing into the job market. I enrolled in a master’s program in investigative journalism at my university. That chapter of my life pushed me beyond my limits, it helped me gain better skills, expand my knowledge, and gain a lot of confidence. I was surrounded by inspiring mentors, and together we explored how media can influence change. Those years gave me purpose and transformed me into a better journalist.

While I was studying at university, I was very stressed and overwhelmed about understanding my job in the world. I applied for an internship at a Journalism company to learn the ropes of my future job. I had a lot of on-the-job-training, which took place almost every day for two weeks. Being an intern was difficult, but it allowed me to have a foot in the door, this helped me become a better journalist, when I graduated. My internship was a great help, and it came in handy on multiple occasions, where I realized I already knew the information and the solution for many problems. The skills I developed also come in handy when I start working on real assignments, as I was extremely prepared for challenges. Even though having on-the-job-training was extremely overwhelming, and I was very tired a lot of times. I pushed through and gained valuable experience. My internship was like a driving test that guided me and taught me how to navigate my way and become a better journalist.

After I worked as an intern journalist for a small company and felt happy with my job, but over time, I realized it was a dead-end job, I had no hope of progress. I became so frustrated, I even struggled with depression, and I had a lot of debts. Later on, I had the amazing opportunity to volunteer abroad in London for the BBC to work about the homeless' topics and refugees problems. For the time, I volunteered there, I worked on multiple cases of problems faced by people who didn't own a place to live. I lived the most invaluable experience related to my work in journalism. This experience was so precious, it gave me a better in-depth comprehension of my work that really helped me to presume my purpose when I returned to Montreal. I received premium wage for my new experiences, this rise in my salary helped pay my debts. This is a decision that I would never regret in my life, by volunteering abroad I became a better journalist because of the experience I gained at the London office, I was given better direction to understand the situation of the homeless and refugees around the world and how to better report the problems they faced in the past, and the ones they are still facing to the world.

I decided to stay at my job. I had many colleagues who always undermined me, and said many negative things about me behind my back. This situation happened more often tin every meeting. Office politics were the most present in our daily conversations, everyone wanted their own self-serving interests above the interests of the company. These problems were an actual hinder to all projects we wished to have developed. Many of my co-workers were withholding documents for their own good, and not for the good of the office. I thought about getting sucked up in the company to understand more about the ups-and-downs of everything that was happening around me. But everyone that I worked with hindered my ability to do my job, they always closed doors in my face. Those people were trying everything to put me down. I was able to work hard, and got a change of office, I moved to the middle east, where I worked with people that were more understanding and worked as a team.

My Job at the journalism office was so nice, my colleagues were very friendly from day one. I became a victim of sexual harassment. It began with a little flirt and comments about the way I looked. At first, I ignored him, but over time, his flirtations became more persistent. A few months later, these comments crossed the line, when my co-worker wasn't only flirting, but he attempted to kiss me one night while we were working late. I got very mad at him and told him that I am going to report what he did. This perpetrator tried to deter me, told me there's nothing I could do against him, and that he held all the power against me. I flirted with the idea of staying silent, but the dread of what might happen if I didn’t speak up haunted me. Even though I was deterred for a while, I eventually took action. This misconduct made me understand that not everyone who is friendly is a real friend, as the huge assault that I was the recipient to, made me a new person who was scared of everything and thought of it as a harassment. Because of his aggressive behavior, I needed a lot of guidance to regain my confidence and get back on track. I moved to the middle east, where I worked with people that were more understanding and helpful.

I was working for the national news in a Middle eastern country, I had an amazing team. My company was ingrained with the same laws it was established under, these values began to ingrain themselves into the culture of our workplace. A few months later, we received many new employees, crazy enough they all had the same last name as our own fonder. At first, new employees took an asset from the company later on they took many assets from the company, and even accepted a bribe from well-known figures in society to write positively about them. I found out about what happened later on, I tried to confront them about what they had bribed their way into these jobs, but I couldn't. By taking so many bribes and stole a lot of assets they became very greedy and corrupt. I had many threats send to my office. The idea threatens for telling the truth really hurt me. I told them one day after work that what ever they are doing is considered theft, and for doing so they are thieves, they laughed at my face. I reported them to the head office and after many lawsuits they were fired. After all I been through I'm rethinking my life should I stay at my job or leave.

I finally decided to leave my job, after enduring months of workplace tension, and a lot of harassment. That toxic newsroom had a bad influence on my life. So, I decided to walk away. I took a break, and spent time healing by asking myself what kind of journalist I wanted to be. Leaving wasn’t the end of my career, but it was the beginning of a more honest and liberated chapter of my life. I had a lot of new choices in my life.

After leaving my full-time job, I realized that I wanted a better future for myself. I decided to invest in my education. My option was to continue my studies, even though it felt very scary, I knew that staying in the same place would only limit my possibilities of a better future. I studied journalism because I wanted to tell the real stories to the people and, to give a voice to the voiceless. Starting university was not just about getting a degree, university was about finding a new path for my life and, building a future.

After years of teaching I found that it wasn't the job for me, I decided to take a new way of life again. I took the decision to leave my job and start looking for a new thing that I would love.

As I was jobless, I wanted to explore the world and my options in it. I decided to open my own Journalism company to publish the lesser known news to the world. My company got so popular it was voted the most trustworthy news in the west.

I worked for my Journalism company for years, but I finally decided it was time for some "me time" to take care of myself and my older days. I retired and started traveling all over the world with zero care in my life.

After having many jobs in multiple ways of life, I decided to leave my job at my Journalism office I felt like I have given it enough of my time and life, and it is time now for me to relax and enjoy my late adulthood in good health.

Choice 1 : Retirement.

I discovered the case of corruption. I started working with Human Resources (HR) to ensure that all new candidates were carefully evaluated before being hired. We did a full background check on each candidate to find out if they were valuable enough to be brought into the company. Once we completed the background check on a specific candidate, they were hired to fill a vacant position. There was a lot of leg work to be done at the company, but we didn’t assign it to them right away, since they were still a new employee and didn’t even have access to paid leave. After some time, we observed that they had gained a lot of knowledge and accumulated valuable experience from working in the office. If the person worked very hard in their field, and adapted to the work environment, they will gradually develop new skills. A leg work position could be offered to them, along with a compensation package full of benefits, including salary, health insurance, paid vacation, and a pension. Throughout this process, they demonstrated excellent communication skills, strong research abilities that are essential in Journalism.

After finishing college, I decided to work at McDonald's. I was paid well for my first full-time job, and it was a great experience, I learned a lot about teamwork, customer service, and time management, and I had a lot of fun. However, the fun alone couldn’t really pay the bills, and there wasn’t much opportunity for growth or career advancement in that job. After some reflection, I decided to quit my full-time position and return to my studies to invest in a better future.

I decided that I would stay at my job as I feel like it's the place for me, and I feel that by working on myself I would completely belong there, yet I don't know what will happen with my life in the future.
