Life of a police officer.

After high school.

My days in high school were amazing, I truly had so much fun with my friends. I always struggled to know what I wanted to study in cegep. I was scared to make a bad choice or to hate every job. I went to visit Ahuntsic College and Maisonneuve to look for a program that was interesting. I fell in love with the Police Technology program and felt relieved to finally know.

Choice 1 : Ahuntsic College.

Choice 2 : Apply to Maisonneuve.

Ahuntsic College.

My technique passed so fast, I was surrounded by so many greats people that have the same passion as me. Choosing Ahuntsic college was truly the best decision. Those 3 years went by so fast, and I still can't believe I am done with the cegep. I got good grades, and great recommendations, but now it's time to make a choice about my future career.

On my first week of working for the Laval police, I've already heard some office politics in my team. There are some rumors about everyone in the group, and I am worried about the ones about me. Also, when I was on-the-job-training, I was watching how the police officers were acting with the citizens, and they are not always talking with respect to people. I asked my boss about my concerns, and he told me to suck it up, and ignore what I see because it is not going to change. I don't think I could continue working for Laval in those conditions, it's against my values in life.

Choice 1 : Working for Laval is not for me, try again

Stay with Sandro.

We were killing it as a team Sandro and I. We had a murder scene last week, and we handled it so well that our supervisor gave us a special mention our work. I am starting to think about doing the exam for the investigation section in the SPVM to try something new and to get a premium wage. Should I talk to my boss about this?

My new partner is Sheldon, and now I understand why her old partner couldn't work with him. He wants to do everything his way, and he is not letting other people tell him what to do or how to act. I really miss Sandro we worked so well together. I can't continue with Sheldon that is for sure.

Meanwhile, I still patrol with my partner, and we get on a call about a homeless man who's screaming at people for money and is being aggressive. When we arrived, my partner wanted to arrest him for causing disturbance. We already had an intervention with that man, and we know his pass was like a roller coaster. He doesn't mean to be aggressive with other people he just want a place to sleep and eat. I want to talk to him, and give him resources. Sandro does not think we should give him another chance, and wants to arrest him right away.

Sandro was not happy about the decision he is not agreeing with me, and he thinks I only want to go against him. I am explaining to him why I think it is better for the sake of the man if we help him with his need to sleep and of food instead of only being repressive. My partner is not really sure about this, so I was thinking that we could call my supervisor to get an exterior opinion.

Getting a different opinion about this situation was a good idea our supervisor because he told us that if we really wanted to do something right for the homeless' guy, it was by giving him a warning and resources for a shelter. I was happy that someone had my back, and I wasn't feeling as stupid. I had a good talk with my partner about the situation and we both agree that we need to communicate more while working so that we get on the same page. It's my first day as an investigator at the C.O North, and I am very included. I have my own desk and already a case of sexual abuse on a minor. It is very hard to keep my temper because it's infuriating to see what can people do. I love that I can solve cases and help people that are vulnerable. I am happy about my choice of workplace, and I can't wait to work on more cases.
