Graduation at Ahuntsic College in Police Technology.

After three years of studying Police Technology at Ahuntsic College, it's now time to move on to the next step! I have to choose between going to Nicolet (National Police School of Quebec) to continue my training or go to university in a related field.

Choice 1 : National Police school of Quebec.

Choice 2 : University.

After 15 weeks of intensive training, I will have to choose which police department I want to work for. I have several options in front of me, because due to the labor shortage, police department are hiring a lot more than before.

Choice 1 : Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

Choice 2 : Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

University.

With my Police Technology diploma, I can study criminology at university. Criminology has always been a field that fascinates me. I have always enjoyed learning about delinquency, and it's causes. Plus, it is a field related to the police, which is an advantage.

Choice 1 : Criminology.

Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

I finally chose the Sûreté du Quebec because there are many opportunities for advancement, and the territory is large to cover. However, there isn't enough action for me.

I chose to join the SPVM because it is one of the most criminalized cities in Quebec and has the most action. Which Poste de Quartier (PDQ) should I go to?

Choice 1 : PDQ 21 (Downtown).

Choice 2 : PDQ 5 (Dorval).

Criminology.

Criminology is the study of crime, it's causes and ways to prevent it. Knowing that becoming a criminologist and becoming a police officer both interests me, should I get my master's degree or go back to focusing on becoming a police officer?

Choice 1 : National Police school of Quebec.

Choice 2 : Get a master's degree.

PDQ 21 (Downtown).

Downtown Montreal has a huge diversity of people. This area of the city is one of the most criminalized and has the highest number of homeless people. The officers at PDQ 21 are always busy. This kind of environment really attracts me. Will I spend my entire career at this station or go to a quieter PDQ?

Choice 2 : Leave

PDQ 5 (Dorval).

This area is very calm, and there isn't much action. The time feels long and boring.

Choice 1 : PDQ 21 (Downtown).

Get a master's degree.

I really like studying criminology at university. I will keep working hard to get my master's degree. Maybe the police isn't for me after all. Should I continue my studies or try the police?

PDQ 23 (Hochelaga-Maisonneuve).

I just left PDQ 21 because it was too much for me. I ended up at PDQ 23. It's a pretty busy area, which I like it. I feel like I belong here.

Master's degree in Criminology.

I just finished my Criminology studies, which I really enjoyed, but I'm not sure I want to do this for the rest of my life. I feel like I'm missing out on something. I think the police interest me even more.

Staying at PDQ 21 was the best decision! I really like my job, and I feel like I belong here. It's a pretty dangerous area, but that's what I enjoy. I'll have many opportunities for advancement. I would love to become a K-9!
