Picking the perfect College.

Now that I’m done with High School I’m stuck between two colleges to choose from. I’m not sure which one is the best. Ahuntsic is a great college, but it’s two hours of transportation to get there, and I don’t have a car at this moment. Then there is l’Assomption College which way closer to my house, about ten minutes away. I just don’t want to go to a school in my hometown with the same people that I went to Elementary and High school with.

I’m at Ahuntsic College in Paralegal Technology, but I don’t think I’m going to make it through the semester. I’m so exhausted, I have to wake up early every day to catch the bus and enjoy a two-hour trip. Same thing after school, so I get home pretty late. I don’t have a lot of time to study or sleep, because after school I work night shifts at the hospital. Maybe, I should quit my job to have more time to concentrate on school.

Going to L’Assomption College.

Going to L’Assomption College save me a lot of time, it’s so close to my house that I can go home and sleep between my classes. Studying Paralegal Technology there is pretty easy since I have time to study. But I’m not really happy here. I want to make new friends and meet new people. For me, it’s like going to High School all over again, and I didn’t like High School that much.

Choice 1 : Stay at L’Assomption College.

Choice 2 : Find another college.

I quit my job.

I left my high paying job, so I could have more time to focus on school. My mom was very happy with my choice because she really wants me to get my degree. But now I’m broke, what can I do now to make a little money without compromising school.

Juggling between school and work.

I have to commit to both work and school. I need to prioritize time management and create a schedule to keep up with school work. I realize that Paralegal Technology is quite complicated especially at Ahuntsic I can’t seem to beet the class average to upgrade my GPA. It’s so maddening in High School I had straight A’s without studying now I have to study and work thoroughly to succeed. I don’t think that Paralegal Technology is a great match for me.

Stay at L’Assomption College.

I choose to stay here and focus on school. Since I have time to study, I have pretty good grades. Now that I have my degree in Paralegal Technology I happier than ever.

Found another college.

Since I’m unhappy at L’Assomption College I need to find another college and apply. The problem is we already started the year, and some programs only stars in October. I would need to choose wisely what program and which College I want to go to.

Invest some money.

One of my friends convince me to invest with her, promising me to make a lot of profits at the end. Hoping to make a lot of money I put all of my savings into this investment. After a couple of days, what started as a great investment quickly unraveled. Turns out to be a huge Ponzi scheme I lost all of my hard-earned money.

Working a part-time job.

I found a part-time job that can work with my school schedule. It’s pretty much a dead end job paying the minimum wage but for now it will do. Doing my on the job training, I quickly learned the ins-and-out of the job. However, I find the job really exhausting, I hate standing all day. I really miss my old job.

Change program.

Paralegal Technology was so overwhelming I decided to change program. Now I’m in Social Science: Education and culture. Everybody told me that Social Science is easy, and you don’t have a lot of work to do. I really should stop listening to people, it’s easier, and less overwhelming than Paralegal Technology, but it’s a lot of work, and studying. I am happy with my choice, and plan to finish my degree in Social Science.

I’m currently failing most of my classes, I’m so overwhelmed with school I don’t know what to do. I love studying the law, but it really shows what the work of a paralegal is. Doing research every day is not really my goal in life. I don’t want my career to be based on doing research. I love the law but is it really something that I want to do for the rest of my life. At least when I get my degree in Paralegal Technology I can specialize in something else like penal law, notary or corporate law. Something more exciting than civil law.

Going to university.

I’m At McGill University studying corporate law. I taught I would be drowning in work but nothing a little bit of time management can’t fix. I really love going to McGill I get to study something that I’m passionate about, make friends and meet new people. Speaking of new people, I think I met the love of my life, he’s studying Medicine, and wants to be a surgeon he is currently doing an internship at the CHUM hospital. A lawyer and a surgeon what a power couple.

Working as a Paralegal.

Getting a job as a paralegal is not that easy. First, I need to get a foot in the door by securing a place for an internship at the best corporate firm in Montreal. By doing that, it gives me a chance to have an offer to officially work there at the end of my internship. Doing an internship is pretty valuable it gives me on-the-job training, so I can learn the ins-and-out of legal procedures. The downside is sometimes people get bias with new employees or interns, and it can hinder opportunities. This type of behavior can be really demotivating, and it’s sad because for me this internship is kind of a test drive for my career in law. I need to see if I really love this. I don’t want those employees to ruin it for me.

Enjoying my sabbatical.

When I first told my mom that I was taking a sabbatical, she nearly lost her mind. As Hatian, talking about taking a sabbatical is the same as saying that I will never go back to school, and that I don’t care about having a degree. Which is a blasphemy. But I really just need a break from school until I figure out what I want to do. That wasn’t enough for my mom, she decided to bribe me with a paid vacation, hoping that then I come back I will go straight back to school and graduate. But little do she knows I’m taking at least a year of sabbatical. Who knew my mom would try to corrupt me, so I can go back to school. Either way, I’m currently enjoying a margarita on the beaches of Jamaica.
