My first year in College.

I will graduate from high school in a few months! I didn't gt straight A's in all of my classes, but I think I will get accepted in the program I've chosen : Paralegal Technology. I applied in two different colleges. The first one is College Auntsic, which is a College not too far from my current home, it's perfect for me since it won't take me too long to get to school. The second one is Cegep Garneau which is located in Quebec City, I would like to go study there to gain more independence by living alone.

What should I do

College Ahuntsic.

I got accepted in College Ahuntsic! I started my first semester. I have seven classes, Which make it really hard for me, but I manage passing all of them. I'm already on my fifth semester. Time fly so fast. Now I have to find an internship in my field. I applied in a few places, and I finally found where I will go. The Montreal courthouse took me as an intern for the whole semester. Even though it's called an internship, it's more like an on-the-job-training (OJT). I get a wage while learning the ropes, and I will probably get a full-time position afterwards. My coworkers and my supervisor are nice to me, and they often help me improve my skills and the quality of my work. At the end of my internship, I am almost on the same level as my coworkers. My supervisor is really proud of me and so am I. I finished my internship and got my diploma. Since the courthouse had a few vacant position, I took a full-time job because they offered me a premium wage and the office politics were great. I've worked at the courthouse for almost ten years. I am now a supervisor in the criminal sector, which is my favorite field of law.

Cegep Garneau.

I got accepted at Cegep Garneau! I'm sure I will be able to get more autonomy and responsibility by going there. I started my semester a month ago, and I found a job in a law firm which is perfect for me to learn the ropes. It's important that I work to pay my bills, but I also need to make time to study. I gotta have perfect time management to deal with everything. It's my third semester, and I'm completely overwhelmed. I need to work overtime to pay for my rent and all the school fees. The lack of time makes it very difficult for me to concentrate well on my classes. I failed a few exams, and I'm afraid I won't be able to pass the class. I'll take a leave of absence next semester, to be able to work full-time and save money to be more financially comfortable for my future semester. After six months, I went back to school. In addition to the money I had saved, I also took out a student loan and managed my finances to ensure I never overspend. Even though I started school again, I enrolled in fewer courses to make sure I succeed in each one. It might take me longer to complete my studies, but it's a safer approach. I finally got my diploma! I started looking for a new job in a law firm. The independence and responsibilities I gained during my years of study made me want to work abroad. That’s why I decided to pursue a career in international law. It allows me to travel to various countries.

Cegep Garneau

Starting university.

During my last semester in Paralegal Technology, I did my internship at a criminal law firm. I enjoyed the experience so much that I decided this was what I wanted to do with my life. I applied to two university programs that would eventually lead me to work in the criminal field. My first choice is law school, I could later become a criminal lawyer with this option. My second choice is criminology. With this, I will study crimes, perpetrators, victims, and crime prevention. I was accepted in the two programs. Both of them have ins-and-outs which make it hard for me to choose.

Graduation

Law school.

I've decided to go to law school. Since I graduated from Cegep in Paralegal Technology, I already have a foot in the door in law. That program may last a year longer than pre-university programs, but I arrive at university with more knowledge. I study more efficiently, and I know how to conduct my research in a better way. This is not the case for students who studied in Social Sciences and are hearing all the legal terms for the first time, That I have known since my first semester in Cegep. Additionally, I have been credited for certain first semester classes that were identical to those in Cegep. I am finally a law graduate from university. I just have to pass my bar exam. I believe I have prepared well-enough for it. I got my exam and soon after, I open my own law firm. I'm really happy with the choice I made.

Criminology.

I've decided to pursue criminology. Even though this field is less related to law, I’m also drawn to the more human aspects. I've always been curious about what drives a person to commit a crime. I'm also very motivated to help victims regain normal lives. After a few years in this program, I graduated successfully. I now need to find a job in my field. I've always wanted to work with victims of domestic violence or sexual harassment, so I found a position at a center that helps victims. Over the years, I saw sometimes see victims who initially thought their lives were destroyed but after several interventions with me, having rebuilt their lives. I think it was a great choice to go in criminology.
