I still remember the day where my wife and I were attacked the day after we moved into our new house in Duhova. Before that day, we had planned on leaving our rundown, backwards country that was shrouded in nothing but darkness, and going to the beautiful and tranquil Duhova, a place famed for its willow trees and the Bosnian inspired architecture. The moment me and my wife arrived in Duhova, it was everything we hoped for, and we had already found the perfect home: a house sitting by the glistening blue river, complete with two storeys and a large backyard. We hoped to have children in the future, and our new house was perfect for starting a family. At first, things were going well for the both of us, and we unpacked and settled into our new home quite nicely, until that one fateful night we were almost killed.

When we moved to Duhova, we forgot that the country is also inhabited by various spirits, some angry and vengeful in nature, and one night, we were paid a visit by the angry spirit of a woman who demanded that we leave her house. I was terrified out of my wits that night; I did not want to leave the house, not after me and my wife had just moved in. I thought that we would both die that night. But my wife – my beautiful wife – was brave; she casually approached the spirit. She looked into her eyes and said….
Choice 1 : Persuade the spirit.
Choice 2 : Insult the spirit.
Choice 3 : Beg the spirit to leave.
“Stop bothering us and leave us alone. All we want is a house to start a family in. We have no intention of hurting you or destroying this house. Now please leave.” Needless to say, the spirit listened to my brave wife’s words and left us alone, and we soon had a peaceful night of slumber. We did start taking precautionary measures after that night, though.

“What on earth are you doing here at our new house?! We do not care if it belongs to you or anyone else. I demand that you leave this place before we force you out ourselves, you freak!” I could tell that my brave wife had tried her absolute hardest to chase the angry spirit away and save our new house. Unfortunately though, it did not work out for the both of us. For the next few nights, the angry spirit kept terrorising us. She would make objects levitate, throw them at us and even cause the lights to flicker, the doors to open and slam shut and turn the television to static. We had not even lived in our new house for a week before we decided it was too dangerous to remain in, so we packed up everything we owned and moved out immediately. Of course, we were disappointed to leave our dream home, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

“Why are you bothering us at an hour like this? We’re both terribly exhausted after moving and unpacking. Please leave us to make tea and watch old reruns of soap operas for the nightly hour!” The moment after my brave wife spoke, I did not know what would happen next. Would the spirit leave us alone? Or kill us? Those thoughts of what could happen made me so anxious, I trembled, expecting the worst to happen. Until the spirit said something that surprised me… “Hold on a moment… you also enjoy soap operas?” My eyes widened as the ghost calmed down, yet my wife – brave as ever – continued talking. “Absolutely!” she said in an excited voice. “My favourites are Coronation Street and General Hospital!” Even the spirit herself looked surprised. “Oh, what a coincidence!” she replied. “I enjoy those shows as well! I am still surprised that they are still carrying on with those shows after so many decades!” “Well, do I have some good news for you,” my wife continued. “I have all the episodes of the two on DVD! If you want, we could have a marathon once a week! How do Wednesdays sound to you?” I could not believe what I was seeing. My wife and the spirit were in front of me, making friendly banter over shared interests! The spirit then happily responded to my wife’s question. “Certainly!” she replied. “Wednesdays would be perfect! We shall definitely meet up then!” I had to admit, although this interaction between my wife and the spirit was initially weird in my eyes, I could not help but smile, knowing that the spirit would be a lifelong friend of ours. Of course, I had to get used to it.

After that night, we soon became friends with the spirit, who allowed us to stay in our new home, since she knew that we would take care of it in the same way she did. As the months passed, we ended up learning more about the spirit through tales she told of her life up until her death, and from what she had told us, she definitely had an interesting life! Every Wednesday, my wife and our spirit friend would also get together and watch episodes of General Hospital and Coronation Street, where they would talk about the characters and the situations within the shows. Sometimes I would join them, and watch the soap operas while drinking tea and eating shortbread biscuits. It was safe to say that life had gotten better for us, even if it started out strangely, and I knew it would continue to be great for a while. We even decided that the spirit would be the godmother of our future children!
