I'm studying Paralegal at Ahuntsic CEGEP to become a lawyer. I still have a year left after this semester at CEGEP. I would like to go to the University of Ottawa or the University of Sherbrooke, but I prefer the University of Sherbrooke. The student city, parties with friends tempt me.
Choice 1 : Go to the University of Ottawa.
Choice 2 : Go to the University of Sherbrooke.

The University of Ottawa would be an option for me. Since I would learn the law in English since in this environment we must be totally bilingual. In Ottawa, I will learn common law, which is the law for all of Canada and not just for Quebec. It's a great city to study in and would show me some new places.

The University of Sherbrooke also interests me a lot. It's an amazing student town. The R score to get in their straight down is not that high. The city, the school, the parties organized, the apartments with friends would really make me see what adult life would be like. This University would be my first choice if I had a choice.
Choice 1 : The Quebec Bar.
Choice 2 : Chamber of notaries.
The Quebec Bar interests me a lot. This is the place one decides to go if you want to become a lawyer. It's a lot of study and very difficult it seems, but I am confident and my goal in life is to become a good lawyer. I would really like to study in criminal law or family law. I don't know yet which branch I want to go into. Working in a big law firms, being one of the best in my profession and making money appeals to me a lot.
Choice 1 : Criminal law.
Choice 2 : Family law.
The chamber of notaries also interests me. Doing wills with clients' sounds like super fun. Doing notarial deeds, divorces, marriage contracts seem really entertaining. It's clear that it's more work in an office and less in the field, which pushes me a little more towards becoming a lawyer.

Criminal law is the branch of law I want to go into. It is a law which you see challenges in each dispute. Looking for doctrines, case law on murders, assaults to be able to defend your client seems to me a huge challenge that I would like to take on. Trying to prove to the judge, to the jury and to put doubt in their heads that my client is not guilty of the charges accused would make me get up every morning for my work and I know that I would like that.
Choice 1 : Actus Reus and the Mens Rea.
Choice 2 : Presumption of innocence.
Family law is my second choice. Sitting down with the parties to settle alimony following a divorce, setting parenting time, spousal support, if the couple has minor children or adult with problems is a law that interests me very much. You help parents to be able to continue to manage their children without the two being together anymore. This law would bring out my empathetic side, my human side instead of defending criminals and putting them back into the society.
Choice 1 : Divorce.
Choice 2 : Marriage.
For someone to be found guilty he must have committed the ACTUS REUS and the MENS REA. The ACTUS REUS is the fact that the person is aware of the illegal act. For example, if someone kills another person, one will be found guilty of act. MENS REA is the state of mind required to make the gesture. Therefore, for a person to be found guilty he must have done the illegal act and have had the mind required to commit it.

The presumption of innocence in Canada is ideal. For someone to be found guilty, the judge must not have a reasonable doubt about the accused's accusation. If he has the slightest doubt about the actions committed by the accused, he will be acquitted. Therefore, there should be no possible doubt that it was this person who committed the act. At the slightest doubt, at the slightest hesitation, the person is declared not guilty.

Family law primarily focuses on divorce. When two people divorce, if they are able to agree together on the terms of it that is perfected, but if they are not able, lawyers will take care of it. The child's pension is determined based on the salary of both parents make. The custody times for each child were decided. The parent who makes the most money will owe a contribution for the other parent to be able to manage the children's expenses and several other aspects so that the lives of the children and parents following this separation go well.

Marriage is also an aspect of family duty. There must be a marriage contract stating that the two spouses are married. They must choose their family heritage either by acquisition company, by donations or otherwise. They must also declare their family assets which, when they divorce, will share the property acquired during their relationship. They must celebrate and declared in the register of marriage contract. And all this is managed by a notary and lawyers.
