After graduating from Ahuntsic College, I was admitted to Montreal University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts. I can now work as a textual translator with a third language from Spanish to English or Spanish to French. As a textual translator, most employers are looking for experienced translators to fill in the vacant positions. But there are some job possibilities as an entry- level in the language services agencies. Some translation documents requires the help of certified translators. You will need a foot in the door in some agency to gain experience in order to become a certified translator.

There are several workplaces that you can choose.

Based on Job Requirements as a textual translator in an agency, you will thoroughly go through various skill assessments, for example, written assessment, translation assessment, the interpretation assessment, etc. The purpose is to see if the translator has an excellent language skills, demonstrate attention to details and have excellent writing skills. As an entry-level, these companies will offer compensation package and pension plan.The average entry-level wage for a translator is $43,819 per year. You will gain invaluable experience by further training, time management in order to continuously improve your skills and explore new areas of expertise. How to become a certified translator in Canada.

In order to become a certified translator you need to be a member of the Canadian Translators, Terminologist and Interpreters Council - CTTIC. It is a recognition for a high degree of translation. When applying for membership, it should be directed to the CTTIC member body that is available in the province or district you work and live.The translation exam is for professionals who want their skills recognized by their peers and have the right to use the title “certified translator”. The exam is not designed only to demonstrate a capacity, but rather to show a candidate's professional skills.It may be worthwhile obtain the title certified translator, you will be more indispensable in the labor market, but at the same time, the whole process can feel like a drawback.

Here are the steps you need to make to become a certified translator.

Firstly, you need to be qualified for a certification examination, this requires that you are a possessor of a Bachelor of Arts in translation. You also need have a one year full-time professional experience, or four years full- time experience in translation. Secondly, registration is in the early fall. You must register for the examination and pay the fee. The uniform translation exam is held once a year in several cities around the country. Thirdly, you need to get the passing marks on your examination. If you fail to the examination, you can appeal the results within one month after results notification. For such an appeal you will be required to pay the fee and if the appeal is successful, the fee will be refunded. The appeal decision is final. In Canada, you can obtain the following titles: Certified Translators, Certified Terminologists, Certified Interpreters, Certified court Interpreters and Certified conference Interpreters. Some translation work needs to be done by a certified translator. For example, in Quebec, all translation of documents sent to Immigration, Diversity and Conclusion for an equivalence of foreign education must be translated by a certified translator, otherwise it will not be approved by the Government of Quebec.
