It all started when I applied to the amazing College Ahuntsic. I got accepted in the program of radio oncology. I could already feel the excitement building up my first week. Radio oncology is all about using radiation therapy to treat cancer, and it's a field that combines both theory and hands-on practice. In this program, I'll be into subjects like anatomy, physiology, radio biology, and different radiation therapy techniques. I'll get to learn about the various types of cancer, their stages, and how radiation therapy can be used to target and destroy those stubborn cancers. I think the best part will be that I'll be trained on how to use high-tech equipment like linear accelerators and therapy devices. What makes this journey very special to me is the chance to make a positive impact on the lives of cancer patients. As a radio oncology student, I'll be part of a team working together to provide the best possible care. I'll get to collaborate with experiences healthcare professionals and contribute to improving the quality of life for patients. It's an incredible feeling to know that my skills can make a difference in someone's life. During my studies, I'll also have the opportunity to gain practical experience through internships or clinical placements.This hands-on training will allow me to apply what I've learned in real-world settings, working directly with patients and honing my technical skills. It's also trough these experiences that I'll truly understand the challenges and rewards of being in this field.

In total, the program is three years. The first years filled with excitement and a bit of nervousness as I will delve into the world of radio oncology. I immersed myself in studying the intricacies of cancer treatments using radiation therapy. The more I study, the more I realized the immense impact radio oncology has on patients' lives. Practical training played a crucial role in my development as a radio oncologist. I had the opportunity to work with fascinating equipment, such as linear accelerators and MRI machines. Learning to operate these machines and deliver precise radiation doses is both challenging and rewarding. It's not just about the technical aspects, Understanding the different types of cancer are crucial. Understanding their stages and how to tailor radiation therapy to meet each patients unique needs. This personalized approach to treatment truly resonated with me and solidified my passion for the field. As I progressed through my cegep journey, internships and clinical placements allowed me to apply my newly learned skills. Becoming a radio oncologist is a transformative journey, filled with growth, challenges, and incredible rewards. It's a privilege to be part of a field that combines scientific expertise with compassion and care. I am extremely grateful that with this program, I get to to contribute to the fight against cancer and make a positive impact on the lives of others.

As a radio oncologist, my work revolves around providing specialized care to cancer patients and helping them on their journey towards recovery. I work in a hospital, once I arrive there I would begin by reviewing patients files and consulting with my team. We discuss treatment plans, analyse imaging results, and collaborate to ensure the best possible care for our patients. Communication and teamwork are essential in our field, as we strive to provide personalized and effective treatments options. Throughout the day, I meet with patients for consultations and treatments sessions These interactions are incredibly meaningful, as I have the opportunity to offer support, answer questions, and provide reassurance during what can be challenging time for them. In the radiotherapy department, I work closely with a skilled team of radiation therapists and medical physicists, Together, we administer radiation treatments using advanced equipment and technology, carefully monitoring the dosage and targeting the cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. Precision and attention to detail are paramount in our work.
