When I came to Canada, I was impressed by education level, and I was surprised that I can choose what I will study.

I took the right decision.

I decided to start studying what I love to do. I started Studying in the Diagnostic Imaging program at Ahuntsic College. I started studying from day one because there is nothing so maddening as procrastination, it is like pulling off straight A's. I decided to start making a thoughtful plan to organize my schedule, and made a snap decision about my time management.

I found different modalities, like Scan, MRI, Radiography, and radioscopy. I also found that I love to do Scans and Radiography. I found that this was what I love to do. When I finished studying and got my work permit, I couldn't instantly decide what I loved the most. I took much time to decide before I started working.

Start working.

I started working in the different modalities to decide what I love the most. I worked in MRI, Scan, Radiography, and Echography. I decided to work in the Scan department. When I began my job the employer provided an OJT to us as newly hired employees. OJT is a training that takes place in the actual work environment, usually for one month. It allows new employees to gain new skills. I earned a wage during this OJT. The wages differed from one position to another. OJT has been provided by someone very competent. He used to give the OJT to all trainees. This person knew the ins and outs of the job. There are some potential drawbacks to OJT as well, if the trainer was not competent enough, there was a risk that his biases and bad habits could be passed to the trainees. I was very happy to do this job. I learned a lot of things, and I gained a lot of skills.

New Experience.

I worked at a hospital in the public sector. During my shift, I found different types of patients: Athletes with fractures, and patients with different types of diseases. I met old patients who are very difficult to handle, with chronic diseases. I met pregnant women who aren't supposed to be exposed to X-rays. I've also met children with different pathologies. This is the first time in my life I realized that there are many people. I started to be confused, and I wondered if I had chosen the right career for life.

After seeing this huge amount of patients in the public sector, I thought about changing the sector. I started to submit for private sector vacancies, and I have been accepted in the scan department at Imagix.

New beginning.

I decided to shift and start working at the new job, at Imagix. I started with OJT training. I found that all the devices are brand-new. The first day of work was perfect, I had only three patients. I realized the difference in the number of patients in the private and the public sectors.

I took all the training that I needed to start working alone. Day after day, I began to work alone, and I saw that I had a huge number of patients. I began to become a little bit confusedly.

One day, during my shift I had to do an exam for a patient called Tim Ray. In my job description, I have to call the patient by his name and then verify that he is the right patient by a double verification method that consists of asking for the name and the date of birth of the patient. I verified the name of the patient, but I forgot to verify the date of birth.

I finished the x-ray exam with Tim Ray, and I told him to wait in the waiting area until I called his name for the second exam. When I called him the second time, I found that two people responded. Tim Ray who I already know and another person responded as well. I discovered that I had two patients with the same name. I realized that forgot to make the double verification, and I forgot to verify the date of birth of the patient. When I verified the date of birth, I found that I had done the exam with the wrong person. I exposed the wrong person to X-rays. It is a dangerous mistake.

I reported the mistake. I had to do a complete report about this mistake. I was very afraid of the result. My manager called me for a meeting to discuss this mistake. I thought that I would be fired. It was a very big mistake. During the meeting, I shuddered with fear. I found that my manager was very calm. He began to tell me that I made a big mistake, and we must send the report. I asked him " Am I fired?" He told me " No ". And he began to explain to me that I was very stressed, and this was normal at the beginning of my career. He also told me that I must concentrate on each step to not forget. He was very nice to me.

Finally.

Finally, I discovered that I met a lot of patients during my career. I discovered that the most important is to do all the steps effectively and efficiently. Also, I set an objective in front of my eyes. The objective is to help patients do the appropriate exam with good image quality to help doctors make the right diagnosis. In the end, our job contributes to improving patient's quality of life.
