As I enter my final year at Ahuntsic College, studying Accounting and management to become an Accountant, I am faced with two major choices that will decide my future.I should make a thoughtful decision!

Choice 1 : Go to university.

Choice 2 : Take a year off

Go to university.

There are two universities I really want to go to. I'm not really sure which one to pick.

Choice 1 : UQAM University.

Choice 2 : HEC University.

UQAM University.

I chose UQAM University, mainly because all of my friends were heading there too. I thought it would be a great idea to live in the same dorm as my friends. But things went downhill pretty quickly. I got caught up in the frustration of school and just put aside my studies, prioritizing parties and clubs with my friends. I admit, I did a cursory job, I barely put any effort into my work. Looking back, I feel like I've ruined all those amazing opportunities that I could've had.

Choice 1 : Volunteer abroad.

Choice 2 : Drop out of university.

HEC University.

That was a fantastic choice! I did well in the years of my time at HEC University. This University is known for it's strong reputation in the filed of business and since I'm aiming to become an Accountant, the fact that I attended HEC University will come in handy for getting a great job in the future. Even though I've had all those maddening assignments and tests, I still managed to pull off straight A's. Going to university is no joke! It comes with plenty of responsibilities, but thanks to my thoroughly planned time management strategies, I was able to get my degree with ease. Now that I'm done with university, I have two exciting choices ahead of me.

Choice 1 : Internship.

Choice 2 : Look for a job

Volunteer abroad.

I know I didn't do so well at University, but I still have my college degree in Accounting and Management. While I may have stumbled, I believe in finding a purpose in every situation, that's why I chose to volunteer abroad. It allowed me to gain in-depth knowledge about different cultures. By volunteering abroad, I gained invaluable skills, knowledge, and experiences. Even though I haven't completed University, volunteering abroad has opened up so many new doors filled with exciting opportunities.

Choice 1 : Work at Ernst & Young.

Internship.

Once I got accepted as an intern, I had the opportunity to learn the ropes of the company and finally test drive my knowledge in a real world. At first, the workload seemed overwhelming, but I realized that every challenge was an opportunity to grow and learn. I worked alongside professional accountants and other interns that guided me and taught me a lot of things throughout my internship. I've looked at the company's assets, account, balance sheet, liabilities, cash flow, you name it. Honestly, my internship came in handy and has helped me in various ways. I've made lots of new connections in the same field, gained plenty of knowledge, and skills, and I'm really happy to have experienced such opportunity for my future career. When my internship came to an end, my manager was impressed by my hard work and decided to give me a job referral.

I am glad I accepted the offer. Years of hard work in this form has been incredibly fulfilling and worthwhile. Not only have I found success in my career, but I've also been able to achieve financial stability. I'm forever grateful and blessed to have this achievement.

Take a year off.

By deciding to not going to university, I lost interest in continuing my studies, most importantly I lost interest in accounting. This means that my college degree is a complete waste, but I can't stay home and do nothing. I applied to various jobs, however it turns out that the only available position was as a waiter. Since I live by myself and have used all of my saving's money, I have no choice other than to accept it.

Being a waiter wasn't quite what I expected. You know what's been disturbing me lately? My co-worker is going through a tough time. She's been a victim of sexual harassment at work. It's a dreadful situation, and it's really bothering me. When I tried to stand up for her she told me to mind my business. She hasn't spoken up or taken action because she's living paycheck to paycheck and fears that this will affect her job. I'm aggravated by this misconduct, but at the same time, I don't know what she'll do without the job. It's a difficult decision, and I don't know what to do.

By alerting the situation to my manager, we were able to get justice for my co-worker. The perpetrator was identified and got arrested for sexual assault and my co-worker, who was the victim, received paid therapy sessions, medical expenses until she feels better and also financial compensation. My manager recognized my bravery and the way I stood up for my co-worker, so he decided to promote me to a supervisor role.

I'm now a supervisor of the restaurant. I love what I'm doing.

Since I decided to stay silent and not inform my manager about the situation, my co-worker had to endure this trauma even more. Unfortunately, she reached a point where she couldn't bear it any longer and took her own life. Ever since her loss, I've been feeling an overwhelming sense of guilt, as if I played a role in her death. I now hate myself and often stay at home.

Choice 1 : Start from beginning

Drop out of university.

After I dropped out of university, I joined a company as a data entry clerk. The work was a real drudgery, I feel powerless working under a superior. He makes me do overtime because of the lack of teamwork. The alienating effects of this job drained my energy.
