At the end of my senior year in college.

I just finished my last semester at Ahuntsic College as a student-athlete. I studied Social Science in college the name of my program was Social Science Psychology and Social Intervention. The reason I got into that program the reason is that I've always been the type of person to listen to and help others, especially the youth. The best way for me to be there for those kids were to apply to that program and learn more about the mental part of things. I'm graduating from college with a difficult choice to make for my future. I have to choose between pursuing a career in basketball or with the DPJ.

Becoming an NBA player.

I just finished playing my last college basketball game at Cegep Ahuntsic. I played super well and it was an amazing year for me and my family I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness during this journey to The NBA. I entered my name in the NBA draft. So many good things happened to me; for example, I got a premium wage deal from Nike after signing with them, to wear their shoes and clothes exclusively. I decided to pursue my dream of becoming an NBA player. And so, I started to prepare for the NBA draft. On draft night my name was called and I had the blessing of being drafted by the team I loved the most since I started playing the Toronto Raptors!

Working for the DPJ (youth protection department).

I just finished my last semester at Cegep Ahuntsic. I loved playing basketball at Ahutsic but I what I loved even more, is to help people, and after studying Psychology and social intervention, I wanted to work in the DPJ. I decided to become a social worker for the Youth Protection Department. The decision was difficult, but I knew I could positively impact the kids and help families with whatever was wrong in their homes. I can relate to those kids with me having to deal with a child protection services as a young kid.

Life as a NBA player.

My life as an NBA rookie for the Toronto Raptors has been a blast. I've been doing several physical tests and passed flying colours. Also, they gave me an exam on the new playbooks that I needed to learn and passed with straight A's! Knowing the plays by heart will come in handy when it's time to get on the court and execute plays on the court. I've been learning the ropes from my veteran teammate who teaches me how to use the facilities and gym, but he also teaches me new things about basketball and the NBA that are truly invaluable.

I Finally graduated. After graduation, I applied to multiple departments to work with the DPJ. I had multiple people in my family who've worked for the government, and with the social worker, I had a foot in the door while applying for jobs in the DPJ by having their names as references. I was happy to hear that I got emails from the DPJ in Laval and Mascouche. I knew somebody would allow me to work in that feel. I've been in high school I've known what my purpose was. It is to help the next generation of kids and those with a difficult past.

I just arrived at the Youth Protection Center of Laval I had a meeting with my boss Edwin. He told me that my time here was gonna be worthwhile at the time of my interview when I got hired and promised me when we were on the phone the other day, that I was gonna be able to do some overtime and make more money, and I was also gonna have a lot of health benefits. When I arrived at the Center, we had a little chat outside. We talked about the lack of help from the government concerning the resources that they put at our disposal to help the kids for example money to renovate the building, and programs to help them with their mental health. I promised Edwin to help him change this place around. The feeling of fulfillment, when I am able to help those kids get better, is what motivates me to work in this field. I'm not motivated by the money but by the smiles of the kids when they learn to appreciate life for what it is.

Working in DPJ in Mascouche.

The moment I got the call from the Youth Protection Center of Mascouche I was surprised that they called me back to tell me that I impressed them during the interview. They told me that I would be a valuable asset to them to help them with the many things going on in the center. At first, I was happy to hear all of those kind words but the look that he gave me when I asked about the kids stayed ingrained in my head. He didn't respond and told me that we would talk about it more when I came to Mascouche. Should I go or Should I call him to tell him that I got an offer elsewhere? I searched online about the Center and found out that there was a lot of theft in the area by kids and a lot of bribing from gang members to force the kids to do their dirty work. I am at a loss of words and don't know what to do.
