The End of High School.

Wow! I can not believe it, I just finished high school. I am so excited for my future. However, I have to make a choice between two different paths.

Choice 1 : Take a year off to travel

Choice 2 : Start cegep next fall in the Medical Records program.

Take a year off to travel.

After years of study, I deserve to enjoy my life and travel. I want to meet new people and get out of my comfort zone. To do this, I need to choose my destination, but I'm hesitating between two very different options.

Choice 1 : Volunteering Abroad

Choice 2 : Going to Mexico to relax

Start cegep next fall in the Medical Records program.

I always wanted to go to work in the medical field to help people, but I know that I am not made for doing a job involving direct contact with patient like a nurse or a doctor would do. When I first heard of the Medical Records program, I was very trilled by the course grid, and I applied in two different CEGEPS. Happily or unfortunately, I got accepted to both schools! Now I have to choose between them.

Volunteering Abroad.

Taking a year of of volunteering abroad seems like the perfect opportunity to create magic connection with people and to help people in need. I decide to go to South Africa. Arriving there, I received a message from the person who where supposed to host me. Her mom died last night, and she needs to fly back to Canada. I now have no place to stay. At the airport gate, a gentleman approaches me and asks what I'm doing in Africa. I tell him I've come to do community work, but that I have no place to stay for the night. He invites me to follow him and tells me that he has a place for me at his place.

Going to Mexico to relax.

I arrive in Mexico with one thing in mind : enjoying my stay. In the lobby of my hotel, I notice a screen announcing a big party tonight. It's the full moon party. For this party, you have to pull an all-nighter.

Going to College Ahuntsic.

I choose to go to Ahuntsic College. Today is my first day, and it's supposed to be exciting. However, my alarm decided not to ring this morning, and I am late. When I arrived at my first class, ten minutes late, the teacher had already star talking. There are only two place left. Where do I sit?

Going to Laflèche College.

I choose the Laflèche College because the program because I can do the program remotely, from home. On the first day, I try to connect to the school website to participate in my first class. My computer start to lag and then to close completely. I panic and all I want to do is screams because I will my first class. What is my next step ?

Choice 1 : Call my teacher to resolve the problem

Choice 2 : I go back to bed because I think that my life is ruined

Already in the car, he starts complimenting and start doing some flirtation. I feel uncomfortable and realize that more often than not, this kind of story doesn't end well. I don't want to be a victim of sexual harassment, so I tell him to drop me on the street corner. Will he let me out?

He accept.

He stops the car and let me go. I feel free and my next step is to call a taxi to find a hotel nearby.

He looks at me and laugh. I can't stop crying and I'm scared. While he try shut me up, he looses the control of the car and we have a major car crash.

I decide to go to the party and have some fun. There are so many people, but the music is good. There's plenty of alcohol and someone offered me some. I'm not 18, but I want to have a good time.

Everything's going well, I'm making friends and having a good time. We talk so much that we don't listen to the teacher. I miss the information about the winter internship, so I miss the registration.

I don't drink because I am not 18 years old already.

I don't want to get in trouble, so I don't drink. Some of the people there are really intoxicated. Someone throws up on my shirt. I decide to leave because I stink.

I call my teacher for help.

The teacher help me with the connection of my computer. It doesn't work, but she tells me not to worry and tells me to go to the nearest library, so I can connect remotely.

I go back to bed because I think that my life is ruined.

I'm depressed and anxious. Days go by, and I do nothing to help the situation. I failed school and am now an employee at the Tim Hortons near my home.

To the CHUM hospital.

I've always dreamed of working at CHUM. Now, at the end of my internship, I feel confident that I want to work in this hospital. I decided to apply for a position as a secretary while I finish my studies. Will I obtain the job?

I'm disappointed, but I'm not discouraged. I'm motivated to apply to other hospitals near my house for the same type of position.

I come to the interview prepared and well-dressed. The lady doing the interview is very kind and tells me they'll call me back with an answer. A week later, they called to tell me I'd been accepted and would be starting next week. I am so thrilled!

After a few weeks of internship, I realized that working in the CLSC is not made for me and that I should have gone to the CHUM. I feel demotivated, but I feel that the things I learned here will come in handy later.
