The beginning of college.

It was my first year at Ahuntsic College studying Social Science. I had to make a very important choice that could have influenced my future.

Choice 1 : Doing well at school and try to pull of straight A's.

Choice 2 : Have too much fun and forget about all my school works.

It was just the second week of the semester and already my teachers were giving me so much work to do. I had to make a big decision that could have influenced my future. I looked at all the work I had to do, and I decided that I was not going to put aside all my work and that I was going to do my best at school and try to pull of straight A's all of my college years. I thought about my future and decided that doing great in school is really important. My solution to get better grades and pull off straight A's being to make sure that I stay organized, take good notes while the teacher is talking in class, and manage my time wisely. Doing well in school is all about finding a balance, of course you can have fun, but you also have to do the work. I always try to tell myself that I got this, and it's not always easy to try pulling off good grades, but I just have to put aside distractions and focus on my studies. Being thorough in my understanding of the material, rather than just giving it a cursory glance is something I still have to work on but trying new work strategies to get better grades is always better than not doing anything at all. Also, for me, time management is key! I just need to plan out my task and allocate enough time for studying because being thoughtful and organized can make a big difference, and it helps me spend less time procrastinating. I always try to remember that with a little of effort and planing. I'll be able to pull off great results.

Time management and balance were not options for me. I just wanted to create a lot of fun memories with my friends. I didn't really care about my future, I wanted to enjoy the present. I went out every night, went to bed super late, I did not do any homework and of course I was tired after partying every night, that I had to skip a lot of my classes to catch up on my sleep. The Social Science program is all about understanding the individual and learning more about human behaviors, psychology and society, so I told myself it was just common sense, but when I got all of my grades of my final exams I realized all the classes I skipped and an impact and my grades were horrible.

The beginning of university.

During my time studying at University, I had to make a really important choice.

Choice 1 : Do all the school work and also get an internship.

Choice 2 : Spend more time doing only my school assignments that are necessary and having fun.

The choice a made was to get an internship at a school. As an intern, getting an internship was really my foot in the door to the professional world. I didn't think it would have helped me that much. At the beginning of my internship, I was overwhelmed of course, but I soon realized that this experience would come in handy for my future career as a teacher because I got to spend so much time with teachers that had experience while also learning how to work with students. I test drove different tasks and projects, and each one taught me something new. The internships I had allowed me to develop skills, build connections and gain confidence while learning the ropes. Now, having learned the ropes, I appreciate the importance of internships and how they can shape career paths. They provide to the interns a platform to grow and succeed, and I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had. Once I got my first opportunity, I was eager to learn the ropes. At first, everyone is overwhelms, but I took the opportunity to test drive different tasks and projects, and it really came in handy. In conclusion, an internship really comes in handy.

The choice I made was to focus more on the work I had to do at school, and also spend more time having fun, so I did not get an internship. For me, having fun is really more important than thinking about my future. At first, it was really fun I had more free time than my friends who chose to get an internship, but after I realized they all had more experience than me. Getting an internship allowed them to develop skills, build connections and gain confidence while learning the ropes of being a teacher. When I got to the point that I had to to internship at a school with my university program I realized that I was not really confident in front of a whole classroom full of students, and I had to get a lot more practice before starting my future career.
